Couldn't tell if that was sarcasm but I digress.

It actually looks like he's sitting at a bar and not at church

Zoom in all the way, he does have elvish ears, and i'm talking about the guy on the Far left Sitting in the stool with his head stooped slightly, i don't see any indication of a beard on him so i'll suppose you thought i was referring to the bartender.

Oh! Yeah, I didn't even see that guy, I thought you meant the bartender.

His ears do kinda look elven, though it's hard to tell with the angle of the shot and without any real depth perception.

What? No. Doesn't look that way at all to me at least. Can elves even grow beards?

Aside from how suddenly and sharply the support beam in the back meets the floor, I do love the amount of details in this image.

The animations are really nice - simple things like how the bartender actually has his hands on the counter really add a lot of character to the NPCs. Pete Hines has confirmed, BTW, that this man isn't a Redguard. I'm guessing he's just a Nord in the shadow - which is really nice if shadows actually can make an NPC's skin pigment seem completely different (as opposed to Oblivion where they still all had a rim-lit glow about their heads).

@MrTissueBox He's in shadow. His skin is the same as hers.

The NPCs' clothing isn't exactly my favorite: the broom woman's blouse seems to be uncessarily raggedy looking. Whilst this would be a nice touch for lower quality clothes, I can't help but feel Bethesda may still just be making the transition out of Fallout 3's grunge overlay spam. :P

Oh, and hooray for clutter! Lots of nice items sitting up on and above the shelves that I hope you can pick up or at least move aorund. Oblivion's environments felt too sterile with everything bolted to the tables.

Shadows are on everything, except the bowl to the right infront of the sweeping woman WHICH is right by a candle and yet no shadow.

yep Skyrim is ruined and Todd is a liar saying Shadows are on everything :brokencomputer: :obliviongate: :banghead: :shocking:

Hairs look better :D or rather NEW MODELS <3 lol this thing is akin to the Picture pre Oblivion showing the training room with various weapons and food on the table.

did I mention I like the hairs?

except for the characters, it doesnt look much better than oblivion imo...

Sure it does...
http://thewormhole.nfshost.com/OblivionSkyrimCompare.png

Point 1) In Oblivion the only hi poly models in the game were characters, armor, weapons and statues. All other objects were very low poly and quite visibly blocky looking. Look closely at the objects in the Skyrim scene, the cheese, the wine, every mesh in that scene is high poly.

Point 2) The lightning makes a world of difference as well.

Point 3) Texture quality and texture mapping are much, much better.

Love everything about that picture... except of the unnaturally flat, unrealistic stone floor in the bottom-middle of the screen.
It looks like a flat stone-floor texture with zero depth. That part looks very very bad.

Rest looks pretty awesome.
The place feels very detailed.

What about the paper thin wolf hide on the floor to the left?

I was going to say the same thing :)
I can see a big difference from oblivion to skyrim, from quite a few of those pics.
But if you look at the troll skyrim pic, then the pic you have of the troll from oblivion, that alone shows how much better skyrim is.

lets pray for dx11

DX 11 tessellation would make it look a thousand times better, yes.
But it can also be done by parallax oclussion mapping.

Either of those would make it look a lot better.
On that picture, the stone-floor in the middle-bottom just looks so flat. Like it's just a normal map.

What about the paper thin wolf hide on the floor to the left?

Hmm.. yeah hehe, that looks a bit weird. But it's not catastrophic. It blends in kinda OK. The stone-floor however, waaah catastrophic!

Yeah thats not bad ,it is a shame they had shown until now only human races <_< .The most impressive screen for me is that with a cloudy mountain peaks. That is really awesome.

Let's see....how would I say it...it certainly looks nice, but not "Crysis 2-nice", in the sense that it's not AMAZING...

But having in mind this is probably a console screenshot, it's still in development stage, and that Skyrim will feature a more detailed world than Crysis (probably also Crysis 2) will...yeah, it has pretty nice quality

In fact, I think even just a normal map could look better if it was more detailed.

In any case, though, the stone floor seems to be the most major flaw I can find in the picture.

What about the paper thin wolf hide on the floor to the left?

I noticed that too. That's one thing that DOESN'T seem to have improved that much over Oblivion, other than that and the floor, though, certainly much better, though the shadows and NPCs are probably the most major improvements. In the end, though, texture and model quality is not all there is to in-game graphics quality. I actually think thw shadows will help the game more than any improvements to the textures, and even those seem to look better than Oblivion, even the flat stone floor texture people are complaining about looks sharper than similar textures in Oblivion to me.

Yeah thats not bad ,it is a shame they had shown until now only human races

I have to agree, admitably, there's apparently one screenshot supposedly depicting a Dunmer, and some are saying there's an elf in the tavern, but we don't see either of them clearly. I want to get a good look at what the other races look like. Now, maybe Bethesda is intentionally holding off on that to make it a surprise, but if they do that and the results turn out to be underwhelming, the dissappointment is only going to be greater the longer they wait.

We, my friends, have seen the first glimpse of an elf....possibly.

Agreed. He's tiny compared to the big guy behind the bar. So it seems to me at least.

I've been staring at his ear zoomed in 300% for the past 10-12 minutes and I am almost positive he is an elf.
I think since they have not shown us any of the beast races, they have something big in store for us.

King Helseth had a goatee.

And, I never noticed that guy next to the bartender. I do believe it's a elf. Thanks for bring this to my attention OP. :goodjob:

Edit;

I thought he was just resting his feet on the ledge of the bar. You may be right lol.

Finally some attractive bar wenches!! It's about time! My drunken Nord hero needs girls like her!

Seriously, the graphics are looking quite a bit better than Oblivion. Especially the character models.

Well yes but obviously Dwemer aren't going to be just hanging out in a shop in Skyrim. :P

neither are the bosmer, and they can grow beards
i'd say the only race that can't grow beards are the altmer because they svck.

not definitly it is not sarcasm! it really looks amazing! this kind of animation makes me think about how awesome and living the diferent environments are going to look in skyrim, while walking on the citys streets, or walking into a bar!
