Is this a bug, or am I just stupid? : V

After doing the quest to get the Elder Scroll I can't get rid of the sphere that Septimus gave to me...

It never told me what to do with it and it says it's a quest item.

The big ugly ball doesn't weigh anything so no big deal is I can't drop it, but I'd like to know if this is just me...

You originally had used the sphere in the quest, to get into the door into Blackreach.

You can then use it for the other ruins with the exact same use

It's there for a reason, you're meant to use too open those doors to elevators in and outside of Blackreach.

Why don't I remember that? Seems like I got into Blackreach and the....room without doing anything special or musical/tuning.

If it IS that sphere, it's used to open various locks. Unfortunately, the wiki isn't too specific on what locks, and won't be until more people find them or we get the CK. Hell, even it's weight and value stats aren't filled in. Complete your quest for knowledge and share with others.

I love that place, Best location in Skyrim IMO.

Because the whole sequence is literally

"walk up to altar, activate it, stairs appear, go down stairs, open door"

It was highly uninteractive

I've found a total of 3 such entrances. And no apparent way to get rid of the key.

What stage are you in the quest? In my playthrough, I could pick up the items again

You people do realize quest items don't weigh you down, whatever weight is stated, right?

The sphere, as stated above, is used to open up the way to Blackreach from certain Dwemer ruins. When you use it the floor starts going down, forming a stairs that leads to a door to Blackreach, in case you were wondering when exactly you use it.

And yes, this topic is a spoiler.
