This CAN'T be a screenshot!?

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 1:48 am

^^ its been said to death and confirmed that it IS A GAME SCREENSHOT, not a GC render, not concept art. A screenshot of actual in-game graphics.

Why is that so hard to accept?

How about all the talk about the 360 and making the game via 360. He stated this in the podcast and In the Interview with GI.

You could just tell he isn't a fan of JRPG's. I'll be honest, neither am I.

Doesn't mean in the least bit that he's "not a fan" of the PS3. Just because I prefer Pepsi doesn't mean I'm "not a fan" of Coca Cola.

That's not evidence, it's just stating that he prefers playing games on the 360 - once they are done. I heard that podcast and I don't recall him ever mentioning MAKING the game on 360. I do, however, distinctly recall him saying that they're making the game on PC - which makes sense because that's what the designing tools require to run. Why else do you think that the Construction Kit for Oblivion wasn't shipped for 360?

But let's assume, for arguments sake, that you are correct. How exactly do you propose that they design the games then, when all their design tools (3dMax, Creation Kit, Cubase, etc etc) are designed specifically for PCs and aren't available for 360. Please correct me if I'm wrong, again with a proper link/source.

No, your right. I must have got that information from the forum; in other words, misinformation. No need to get upset.

However, if you watch his interview with GI he never mentioned being influenced by a JRPG. Its all western RPG's that have influenced him. I'm not saying bethesda, I'm saying Todd Howard.

The docs house being on the hill would have been perfect!!! and i too am looking forward to that "Wow" moment, just as long as its not a WoW moment. :D

Its always confused me why it isn't there in the first place. I mean, if you follow the dialoge the doc says to the letter and then follow the robots dialoge to the letter you'll end up at the graveyard to see the sweet view...but why on earth wasn't doc's house on that hill to begin with? Its really obvious for me that the house should have been there. Why wasn't it?

Looking at a dreary boring dust bowl of a town with mountains right behind the buildings...or an epic view over the wastes with NV in the distance...? I...I mean it really isn't even a contest for me....

At any rate...it looks like the designers have been working to get that epic view where ever you see a town in the distance...so I think its fair to say that our first grand look at skyrim once we're free of the intro is gonna be jaw dropping.

I know, and I totally agree with him. It sort of loses it's charm when your sword is bigger than you and/or you hit a creature 20 times before it dies and 10 hours later, you 1-hit kill it. JRPGs usually have set characters and the entire game revolves around an extremely linear story. The Bethesda philosophy has always been almost the exact opposite, so I definitely get Todds point... hmm, "the Todd point" :D

Anyways, hoping that the in-game experience is like these mountains. I can't wait for the game to come out, but I need a PC to run it too :(

Is it so hard to believe they could put something like this in the background? Even if it isn't possible to get to. If you've played Halo Reach (blastphemy in this forum I know, please don't burn me) you'll see similarly beautiful backrounds in-game, but are really far away and impossible to get to.

Maybe none of these guys has played a single game since Oblivion was new? I'm honestly starting to think that's the reason nobody will accept the obvious despite multiple developer confirmations.

Yes, the Xbox and PS3 are capable of such wondrous looking screenshots. Yes, the Xbox will play the game at much better detail levels than in the days of old. You doubters out there, games have come a long LONG way in the last 5 years.

Haven't you guys ever watched the official trailer ? :whistling:

Skip to 2:17 and pause the video.
Please tell me. When you see that image still, doesn't it look like a painting,a concept art ?
Now unpause the video and let it play.
As the dragon flies away you can see it's actuall in-game graphics.
Yup,the graphics are made in such a way that if you pause them look like paintings.
So,the picture IS a screenshot.
Myth busted.

it probably is, but its most likely on the highest setting possible and the fog a sun shine may have been tweeked just so slightly but I think this is what the game will pretty much look like.

Oblivion was similarly groundbreaking when it got released, I'd expect nothing less from Beth. Only question I have is how much my new computer is going to cost.

Guys, you got to remember that it is supposed to be low-res when you zoom in.

When you're in the game world, things aren't supposed to be super-textured when you're pretty far away...

huh, that makes no sense.

Secondly Pete Hines already confirmed a long time ago that it is indeed an in game screenshot.

and this sums up my excitement for the game

Look at how tiny the text is in the bottom right, clearly it was once a very high resolution image and it was greatly reduced in size.

Any image you take and then greatly reduce the resolution makes it look nicer.

I think it looks alright, but nothing comapred to Crysis 1 visuals.

I think they were reffering to what some people were saying about the shapes of the mountain being low poly, and how that's probably mostly because of the distance, as they'd need to use the LOD for far away view, which is lower poly.

But I may be wrong.

If the Graphics are gonna be that sharp, then im gonna have to buy one hell of a PC :brokencomputer:

A Friend of mine said, no matter if you had a Million Dollars and you buy the Best PC with Everything Imaginable, it will Never be Enough. You still need to Upgrade something, wether its the Graphics Card or an Intel Board.

If I know Bethesda correct, they haven't even started making XBOX or PS3 versions yet

I remember Todd saying they are working on them together, and a lot of the graphics are developed first on the XBOX.

It looks good, but it looks far from real.
The shape of the mountains is quite odd, and how they reflect lighting is definitely not realistic.
The volumetric fog/clouds also look strange and not real at all.

Still it looks pretty good, but... definitely not real, hence why so many people think it's concept art.

I wish we would have seen a few trees there, then we could have a reference of how far away the mountains really are.
This may look like a big area at first, but I promise you that if we would have seen a few trees for reference, then we would have realized how small the world really is.
