This CAN'T be a screenshot!?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 11:25 am

Saw this on elderscrolls.com in the Skyrim screenshots section. Was blown away.

Surely it's concept art?

Parts of the mountains look like they could be in-game, but the mist that hugs them looks like it is a painting.
Either way, it is beautiful and awe-inspiring.

EDIT: It is indeed a screenshot! As confirmed by Bethesda's own Pete Hines!

I find my self thinking it is concept art because it looks to be too good for any game out right now.

Although I do believe them in saying its a screenshot.

Yes, it's concept art.
And yes, it's fantastic.

You can see it in the "Concept Art" section of the Skyrim site, along with some other pieces I'm sure you'll be impressed by. :)

For me it's in the 'screenshots' section.

It looks a lot more CGI-ish than the other concept art, too.

Ignoring the fact that it's in the "screenshots" section of the official site.

Are you saying it is a screenshot?

God knows how many low-poly shadows I've seen in games. However I'd like to think Skyrim won't exhibit them.

No concept art would have videogame drawbacks.

It looks more like a sky box texture then actual mountain models, which makes no sense, because the sky box texture should be just the sky.

Once we leave the starting cave for the intro and get that first look at the outside world...I hope it looks something like this. :P

This^ its already confirmed to be an ingame screenshot off the 360, just like every other page of the GI article was.

So you are saying that because their are video game drawbacks it must be a screenshot?

A piece of concept art would not have the traits of an image rendered by a video game.

You wouldn't find paintbrush strokes in a screenshot, and you wouldn't find polys in concept art.

Hmmm I find it hard to believe that it should be ingame, it look truly amazing.
Some of the shadows do seem to be low-res though which could indicate that it is in fact a screen however (it could also just be the way the rock cast it shadow though??) - see attached link to edited image.

But I think that this relates to something else. It is simply to pretty to be in-game.
