Is this fair?

Post » Sat Mar 22, 2014 11:10 pm

Okay... I know I will get flamed for this. Most likely the post will be locked also.

Hence... I declare that (from my side) this is just an almost value free statement and not a condemnation of anyone or anything.

I see it as established fact (personal opinion).

45 Sky-shards in Cyrodiil.

As someone who is hopeless in PvP that means I most likely (at the minimum) will be clubbed into extinction the same number of times.

However, since (naturally... also my opinion) the sky-shards will attract PvP lurkers I either decide not to get them (very bad for a crafting Char) or endure

numerous beatings and the cost thereof resurrecting.

Some people wrote the Game is PvP orientated...in this single aspect of the game I do agree. There is just no way to avoid PvP in getting these shards.

you can go to cyrodil and just go exploring you may get ganked but highly doubtful if you stay clear of the front line fighting.

Yeah it's fair. There are plenty more skyshards in the PvE areas. I'd say since there're two PvP-only skill lines it makes sense.

You can always get some PvP friends to escort you around for 'em.

I also am not a PVPer in mmo's. If you find a good PVE guild and just gather a bunch of people you should be able to pull off a shard quest eventually.

1. Pick a low population campaign in off hours and gather them then.

2. Group up with like minded people and collect them.

The game is PvP oriented btw, think DAoC #2, but do imagine the thrill of it all. You are now up against the best 'AI' - the human brain. Think positive Chirru. :D

These are just 15 skill points. There are over 300 that you can get. You won't miss them.

easiest way to keep from being murdered is wait for your faction to have control of the area you need to go to. the other alternative since you dont care for pvp anyhow is to go to a low pop campaign and do it that way hardly will see anyone. cyrodiil is not only just a pvp area , its actually an open world PVP area. it has dungeons , it has npc quest areas(some of them depending on if your faction controls certain areas) the bad thing about that though for a PVE only person is that is the only place to PVP. that being givin its supposed to add this fear and suspense factor as well. will i see someone? will i not?

As some others have suggested, try going in with a group from your guild. That will deter opportunist gankers lurking for kills. It could also just be a fun thing in general for your guild to group up and do so all your members can get the extra skill points they need.

There is absolutely no reason you HAVE to get those shards. You will have plenty of points without.

This game supports a lot of different playstyles... solo, small group, large group, casual, hardcoe, PvP, PvE... but it doesn't support all content for every style. If you're a soloer, you skip group dungeons and dark anchors. If you're a PvPer, you skip questing. And so on.

It's reasonable for every constituency to expect that their playstyle will be supported, but not to the exclusion of other constituencies... which is the implication of expecting that every bit of content be available to constituency X. That would be the OPPOSITE of fair.

And notice that there's a heck of a lot more content (including skyshards) available to PvE-only players than to PvP-only players :P

I once was a PvE only player, then I tasted pvp. You dont know what ur missing really. And yeah its fair that those skyshards are there, there are tons more in the pve zones. You will end not needing them at some point, you are the one that decides to adventure into Cyrodiil to get them. I personally have spent alot of time I Cyrodiil and I think that the most skyshards Ive gotten there are 2, but I was never looking for them.

there is 1 in every dungeon out there. the rest are scattered around above ground. i agree though its perfectly fair that they are there. you dont have to get them they are not required to do crafting. the point here is that no matter what there are always going to be things you can only get in PVP areas no matter what game you play if the pvp has a reward system. this just so happening to be skill points you wouldnt get if you didnt go.

I am also a former PvE player. Mostly because I was scared as a matter of fact.

In this game I decided to try PvP and I really ended up liking it. :)

Its fair, there are a lot more sky shards in pve if anything is unfair to the pvp players. If some people want to collect every single one then they will have to go to cyrodiil, who knows maybe some of the people who hate pvp in games will like it in eso while looking for the shards.

It's not like getting killed in Cyrodiil causes you to bleed in real life. Run through naked so your armor doesn't get beat to death and cost youa fortune to fix.

Life isn't fair.. fair is where you go to ride on roller coasters and eat cotton candy. The skyshards are in Cyrodiil (those 45) so the point is moot.

Hah. I'm a former PvE player who tried PvP, and STILL didn't like it  I've done that more than once, in different games, and I always hope I'll be able to wrest some pleasure out of killing other people who probably don't WANT to be killed, but nope :/

However, I am fine with PvP people having access to stuff I don't have access to... the world in ESO is plenty big enough for both of us. And I imagine the game needs both groups to succeed financially, which is required for ANY of us to be able to go on playing it.

(Will probably wind up doing Cyrodiil PvE content by sneaking... tried some scouting missions in beta and it was ok... but with it or without it there is plenty of game left for me.)

You dont have to pvp, heck if you hate pvp that much just set your guest campaign to a low populated one and go do all your shard hunting you want to. Unless its a high populated campaign you hardly see anyone in them. Just set a home for one that you like the population in to pvp and guest to a lower one so you can run around and get shards or quest or whatever.

take a scouting mission then get out there cyrodiil is so large it will be hard for ppl to cover all the shards. and yes sneak is your best friend in this situation.

You dont take damage from pvp just from pve, so there is no reason to run through naked unless your afraid a mob will gank you and then you will get dmg. You will also need a partner or 2 for the dungeon ones, some of them are no walk in the park if your not ready for it.

Scouting missions arnt worth the xp gained versus the time spent, you spend 45 minutes or so to do a scouting mission to get 130 xp, not worth it in my book when you can be doing the repeatable ones for 2k plus and 200 and some change gold and they take like 10 minutes at the most.

take the scouting mission because you are bound to come across something of interest (like a shard) on your journey...i know the reward is low.
