This forum is causing me some Gamer's Remorse.

Post » Sun Oct 02, 2011 7:55 pm

One of the worst things you can do is take others' opinions (especially when they're so very pessimistic) to heart, when you have no reason to feel bad. I dislike some of the things being removed/not being added but I don't make a public spectacle of it. The developers make decisions with lots of thought and discussion beforehand, the least we forum-goers can do is wait until the game is actually released to start judging Bethesda's decisions.

The things I am really impressed with are: Game world design, visuals, race design, readiant AI, radiant story, the new leveling system and NPC interaction. Other things, which are minor, but alters the gameplay and immersion, are mostly  , , :banghead: or :swear: .

Anyhow, I will love the living f?ck out of the game :tes:

This is a very new sensation that I've never experienced in video games in my entire life, but these feelings are here, and very well defined. What's happening to me is that whenever I hear news about something Skyrim related I get really happy, and it makes me want to get and play Skyrim even more than before. Now this is where this kicks in. Then I look at some of these threads on here about people that are sad, disappointed, and otherwise negatively effected, and it makes me feel guilty for having been happy about something they announced.

I know this probably sounds very irrational to you guys who are reading this, but I'm going to give an example. When they announced that the item repair system was removed in favor of something they thought was better and more immersive, I was really happy. Then I saw a thread on here about it and took a look, but I did not like what I saw. Dozens of people were mad, disappointed, etc., and I just kind of felt extreme Gamer's Remorse after that.

I should probably keep stuff like this to myself, but the more I'm here, the more I've been experiencing this. Does anyone else feel the same way?

(Don't make fun of me please.)

forget all those whiners, dont let them put a downer on the game. Im happy the repair system has gone too, it was a pointless and annoying.
dont worry about anyone else, you just stay positive, if the whiners want to ruin their own Skyrim experience ( before they have even played the game ) its their own fault.

I'm a very sympathetic person, and sometimes it just isn't that easy. I just thought I'd share to see if anyone felt the same way at times. I find myself often not enjoying something as much as I should because someone else isn't enjoying the same thing as much as I am.

Its going to be rough going if you hold on to that. Opinions on what makes a good game are just way too varied for everybody to be happy. Most people who are content, don't really feel the need to make a thread on it. This is one of the reasons I play exclusively on the pc. I know bethesda is going to make a game to appeal to the masses, and I won't agree with every single decision.

There was a time I felt the same, but that was years ago when I just started getting into game forums. What I've learned is that pretty much every community out there is very similar in the lead up to a new release in a much loved series.

Following Oblivion taught me a lot. Oblivion was just as much a mix between irrational exuberance and hopeless cynicism as we see for Skyrim. In the end, neither of the loudest parties were right. While I (personally) didn't rate the game highly, the things I disliked were not the things the cynics promised me I'd hate.

Ultimately, whatever the news is, you'll make your own mind up when you play. Or you'll get enough information from sources you trust to not bother. My guess is you're excited enough to try though. Hope it turns out well for you (and I). :D

This is nothing. You should see pen and paper rpg forums when they do an edition change.

VERY good point! Now I remember why I left the DnD boards :P This forum must be nothing compared to that one since I've stuck around here so long... ;)

As for the OP.. I get that occasionally. The most recent example: I felt kinda guilty for not caring that armor degradation had been cut, especially since there was such a huge uproar about it on the forums. Also, spell-making. I see more merit in the Skyrim magic system than in games past... I was questioning myself - am I a true TES fan if I don't miss these classic TES features? Then I realized that I was simply looking at the positive side of their removal rather than the negative, and I see that now as a plus, since it gets me more hyped for the game! :D

I don't feel that way, I'm paying $60 so I can have fun with this game. What other people experience with the game doesn't matter to me.

Exactly, others can go and be miserible, and I'll get the game and all things considered, enjoy it. Not me losing out here...

Thanks for that comment, it actually really helps. And I guess you've caught me, I am pretty new to gaming forums.

Critics and the unappeased always cry out the loudest. I personally am more exctied for Skyrim than I was for Morrowind, and Daggerfall before that. Don't let the displeasure of others sour your own happiness ;)

Just remember, no game can be made to suit everyone's wants. While a lot of people are against some of the decisions, there are the people on the other side who are glad, no way they can please both parties.

Your armour degradtion example is one. Some people are glad because they felt it got in the way, some people hate the change as they enjoyed that aspect, either way people are going to be upset.

So don't feel bad just because other people may not like certain things :P Happens with most games.

Not at all, on the contrary, it pisses me off when I see people complaining about every little detail. If you don't like it, keep it to yourself, you're not helping anyone with your endless whining and moaning about things like separate greaves or spellmaking. I think all those misanthropes should have their own separate section, the cry corner, where they can drown in their own misery without pulling the rest of us in with them.

In my opinion, people are always going to find something to complain about, some of the criticism comes from a genuine disappointment that something has been removed and some of the criticism is just pointless nitpicking. When something is removed, people always get angry and complain which is nothing more than a natural defense mechanism. Even with all the negativity, people are going to buy Skyrim. Some will enjoy it for the game it is, others will not, that's just the way of things.

If the internet didn't exist people would probably enjoy games more because they wouldn't notice half the stuff other people are complaining about. It's not until someone points it out they think "yeah I don't like that either" and then go on a crusade.

It's not a bad or good thing, just human nature.

It is empathy and strong empathy can be a good thing. I feel badly that some people don't feel as good as I do about Skyrim's upcoming release but I watched the discussions until I just couldn't watch them anymore...people trying to help others not be upset by talking about the different features that are coming and going and changing. I still feel badly they don't feel as good as I do but some won't be assuaged until they actually play and then if they still hate it...well, it is what it is. Don't feel bad Dragon Slayer...you are not alone.

If I only had some happy dust to sprinkle around.....

I just assume those people have no good opinions and that when they were little their mom gave them soup but they said it was too cold so the mom warmed it up and then it was too hot so they threw it on the floor and cried for the rest of their lives and now they are crying about skyrim.

The stuff people complain about usually makes me laugh anyway. Especially the people who rag on the new character system.

I have my own worries, but they're not related to the core mechanics of the game.

On many occasions, this forum has made me [censored] my head back wondering "Really?" at some of the complaints. Now every time I see something new about Skyrim, I expect the majority to whine. Probably the most amusing has been the people complaining about the Skyrim races and faces pics. I mean reaaaaally.

edit:  at the censorship. I'd rewrite that sentence but its kind of amusing. And no I wasn't cursing.

I can see what you mean- But don't feel guilty for many of these people.

Many of us who "see the light" try to help those not to be so upset by

by giving opposing points of view. They choose not to accept those views.

They're comfortable with their current status. Just as I'm comfortable in mine: Excited!

Haha I feel the same way. I mean people on these forums complain about the stupidest things. One person made a thread about how they don't like the new look of the elves.
