This forum is causing me some Gamer's Remorse.

Post » Mon Oct 03, 2011 2:59 am

This is a very new sensation that I've never experienced in video games in my entire life, but these feelings are here, and very well defined. What's happening to me is that whenever I hear news about something Skyrim related I get really happy, and it makes me want to get and play Skyrim even more than before. Now this is where this kicks in. Then I look at some of these threads on here about people that are sad, disappointed, and otherwise negatively effected, and it makes me feel guilty for having been happy about something they announced.

I know this probably sounds very irrational to you guys who are reading this, but I'm going to give an example. When they announced that the item repair system was removed in favor of something they thought was better and more immersive, I was really happy. Then I saw a thread on here about it and took a look, but I did not like what I saw. Dozens of people were mad, disappointed, etc., and I just kind of felt extreme Gamer's Remorse after that.

I should probably keep stuff like this to myself, but the more I'm here, the more I've been experiencing this. Does anyone else feel the same way?

(Don't make fun of me please.)

I don't feel that way, I'm paying $60 so I can have fun with this game. What other people experience with the game doesn't matter to me.

It might seem selfish, but pretty much this ^

Pfft, idgaf if someone is disappointed about something I love (removal of attributes, classes). I just remember that in the end almost everyone on these forums will buy or play the game and have the time of their lives.

Well, at least you have empathy, which is more than what can be said for the majority of people on this forum.

But yes, I've also experienced this to an extent, namely with the merged armor thing. I'm personally happy with losing one armor slot if it means things look better appearance wise and there's less overall lag.

How very sympathetic of you. I don't feel too bad because I didn't make the decision to axe a certain feature, and yeah, it svcks for the people who may have loved that feature, but there's nothing to do about it now but hope Bethesda brings it back in the next game.

I didn't really mean to come off as I'm ashamed of my opinion, but forum boards historically being the negative vocal minority, all of this negativity is really starting to get to me.

There seems to be a lot of self-examination going on lately among the fans and I can tell you this. I'm ecstatic for the game and can barely wait until November and I don't care what someone else thinks because based on what I've seen with my own two eyes, I'm going to be lost in Tamriel for a very long time having fun.

The other thought is that if there was a game that sounded awful to me, the very last thing I'd be doing with the moments of my life is hanging out in an online forum complaining about it. Not only would it make me feel worse but it would make other people feel bad. I just couldn't do it.

Come on 11.11.11

You can't let other people's speculations and premature complaints sway you. Some people are going to complain no matter what. You really have to evaluate the information we've been given for yourself and realize everybody looks at things differently. There is a lot we don't know and I have faith it will all come together. But some will need to judge it when the game comes out. Then people will like it or not. But don't let reading comments make up your mind for you before the game is even out. If you do get worried, wait until it's out and you can read the reviews before buying it.

Thanks for all of the opinions guys, they're actually pretty helpful. Considering how I've been starting to feel lately around here, is the reason I've not posted any complaints or other negative opinions.

You think you have it bad, spare a thought for the devs. You get someone like Vsions, who comes on fairly often, I think "why do you bother even visiting the forums". Everyone has a right to complain, but now and there is proper venom and spite.

This is nothing. You should see pen and paper rpg forums when they do an edition change. You would think the gaming company had walked into people's homes and shot their puppy. Gamers are complainers, its something you have to accept and not let it get to you.

I don't feel bad for them, cause in the end they'll enjoy the game once they play it and completely forget why they were upset.

I might, except I realize that some people just find joy in griping about stuff. Some enjoy griping more than they enjoy gaming.

You'll see proof of that on 11/11/11.

There's nothing wrong with feeling good about a game, even if others are expressing disappointment. Kudos to you for having empathy for your peers, but you shouldn't allow it to make you feel bad for being satisfied.

That's like buying an ice cream and seeing someone drop theirs on the ground. That svcks for them and feeling sympathetic is normal- but you would still enjoy your ice cream.

I've seen some that in the past and have steered clear ever since.

That's the thing though, if I got ice cream and saw someone drop their's on the ground, I probably subconsciously wouldn't be able to enjoy it as much. I guess it's a curse of having to much sympathy.

I'm a very sympathetic person, and sometimes it just isn't that easy. I just thought I'd share to see if anyone felt the same way at times. I find myself often not enjoying something as much as I should because someone else isn't enjoying the same thing as much as I am.

No. I'm not similarly affected. I don't care if other people dislike something that I like. I stand for my own beliefs and opinions - independent of other people. Of course, if people are good at argumenting that might change, but I've never seen an argument on these forums good enough to convince me to dislike something that I like (or make me feel remorse), at least not that I can remember.

That's their problem not yours. A game is never going to satisfy everyone, people always nitpick and complain. Your own enjoyment shouldn't be diminished because of it

I seriously can't wait for SK. I love TES games. But things like Hth being treated the way it has been is a low blow for me. And when people say good ridence because it wasn't realistic? It's like throwing salt a very open wound.

I don't complain because I get off on it, I complain because it seriously upsets me. Should you feel bad for me? No. You can have your own opinion. I'm fine with people not liking hth. Its just I'm not happy, so I'm going to voice my opinion about it. Don't feel bad that we disagree.
