This game can be crushingly sad

By the way, how do you up the volume of these tapes. They're awfully silent in my game although speech and everything else is OK. But it's a chore to listen to any tape, since I have to put my ear right next to the speaker. Which made me give up and just loet it play till the quest popped up.

Try turning on subtitles instead. I do as I'm half deaf in one ear due to a problem with scarring in the eardrum. So when I can't hear something well, I just read it.

Usually it's not a problem, but sometimes it comes up with Stereo headsets.

The Fallon's jewelry department store vault girl got me hard in the gut. I turned on the radio towers and picked up the looped broadcast. of course I had to keep listening to it as I followed the signal strength to the Fallon's Mall. And then of course inside the mall as I searched for the jewelry department in the supermutant infested/destroyed building. It was gut wrenching to hear her begging for water and the fear in her voice. I mean one moment she is doing her job, locked away inside the security vault. Next thing you know the whole world shakes and then nothing but silence... no one lets her out... no one answers her calls. She died alone of thirst or starvation... with no idea of anything that had happened. Imagine going to work one day and being locked in a room, never to be let out.

I can only imagine the confusion that turned to fear, despair... anguish and pain.

My eyes were a little moist in the corners by the time I found her. :(

The game has more stuff like this as well.

I found a crashed military vertibird in a lake. Had a power armor suit next nearby. makes me wonder if the survivor made it out of the craft but died trying to make it to shore. It had no helmet.

Then there are of course the other skeletons around the wastelands. I think there is a picnic table near The Slog with a man and woman who died over a meal.

Oh and there is the gentlemen's bar where everyone committed suicide.

It hurts the heart seeing stuff like this but its this very stuff that makes me love Fallout.

War. War never changes.

They really should have included a "rest in peace" function so that all of these victims of the past could be interred respectfully.

The audio tape of the girl who gets ghoulified taking experimental radiation drugs that likely had zero chance of ever working to begin with.
