Normal mode is hard. Lol

One thing I noticed about the Raiders is that they have way too much combustible fluids. Whenever I fight them it rains Molotovs.
Yeah, I've been killed by molotov's and grenades more than by anything else combined. Molotov's tossed by enemies are way overpowered!
Heh... wait till you take a mini nuke in the face
Good god yes. They move so quick, and that lunge
And the first time I blew one's leg off and it kept crawling towards me...
On the other hand, I've learned that shooting the legs out from under Mirelurks is really important. They're so fast, but they tend to often crawl away if you blast some legs off.
No its legit, the only downside is that there are a lot of repeat creatures from fallout 3, they just got a makeover.
I am loving this thread. I was thinking it was just me having a tough time. I've played for like 10 hours and already died ten or so times. This is much tougher than I remember 3 being. I enjoy the challenge though. I just need to get some quests done, I feel like I haven't accomplished anything.
76% a C on Steam...I thought it would be better!
I've been doing fairly well so far, only died a few times. One time I didn't realize a Mister Gutsy was hostile until I got close, and it promptly gunned me down before I could get to cover.
Another time was my first encounter with Super Mutants. One of them had a Missile Launcher, and another was a Suicider. Both of them were in a building, so I couldn't shoot them without drawing their attention by shooting the surrounding mutants. I could then either choose to shoot the Missile Launcher one and get Allahu Akbar'd, or I could choose to shoot the Suicider and get hammered with missiles. I must've died have a dozen times before I managed to kill both of them before they killed me.
My latest death was after receiving a message. "Tenpines Bluff is under attack!" Okay, better go save it. Get there, can't find anything. Wander around until I find a pack of about 10 feral ghouls just standing on the outskirts of the town. They took down Piper and the other settlers in seconds, and I had only killed about half of them before I died.
So yeah, brutal.
It definitely is more difficult. I just ran into an assaultron (??? i think that's what that robot was called) and well yikes...and I'm playing on normal.
It just seems hard when you mess up at the wrong moments. eg: Those 3 blood svckers. They can actually murder you in power armor, because for some reason, power armor has no poison immunity yet can svck up rads. Logic is where?
Anyway, it's all about not using crap weapons (seriously, avoid pipe weapons) and adapting the the situations. Hit and run attacks work most times, regardless of difficulty. Bloatflies just means sprinting away and aiming in the distence, maybe with some side stepping here and there. Bloodsvckers kinda need a rapid fire weapon because they move so much.
And come on guys, what makes you think you have to go melee only? Play style? Ok, fair enough. Not using ranged weapons because there's turrets on the roof/walls or because there's a deathclaw or the enemy spits poison? I would argue that's not using the right weapon for the job. I put my stats in none combat related perks and still find the game a bit on the easy side. Provided I don't mess up and run out of ammo. Game's a bit too generous with the minigun, power armor and mini nukes though. Honestly, even a pistol can be a life saver in the right situation. Likewise it's better to melee mole rats then shoot them most times. Oh, don't underestimate corners and cover. And be sure to toss grenades off walls and set mines when they're near and following. I tend to not use explosives, but again, right tool for the situation. The person that doesn't adapt will always be at a disadvantage. Just try not to be at too much of an advantage with 5000 minigun ammo holding 20+ fuel while in power armor. You'll like it at first, but then the game stops being challenging.
Face a legendary Miraluck in PA and with my power sniper rifle and she own me. (playing on survival)
i mean dont get my wrong i love this difficulty. LOL i still remember getting the PA (reading how OP it was ) and going charging on the fight to get my ass eat 6 time by the Deathclaw till i learn how to trick it.
This is something i really like about this game, that F3 and NV didnt, and is the difficulty. NV Hard-mode was a joke when it come down to enemies, only cazadores kill me and only bc i was force to use VATS to kill the [censored] since they move to quick.
But man this game, the freaking dogs of the Super mutants are annoying, and it go the same for raiding inside building, they hide from u or cover alot. Some fight become super intensive.
I've been playing on hard and I'm enjoying it. I like how the legendary creatures are labeled and how a creature above my level has a skull in it's name.
So what does upping the difficulty level do?
I like difficulty in my games but Bethesda used to just increase damage and hp for enemies. I don't like artificial increased damage and hp. HP just makes fights last longer and upping damage is immersion breaking when an enemy raider's .38 manages to kill me in power armor but my mini nuke takes only a sliver off his hp (may be exaggerating a tad here).
My preferred difficulty makes it so that the player gets no advantage for being the player. A shotgun to the face should kill me as easily as it will that wandering merchant. Also, little, more subtle changes that make the game more difficult are things like healing over time, stimpack animations (no more healing in inventory mode) which, while simple, makes a huge impact in terms of difficulty, rarer/more expensive items, money sinks, and of course, good ai.
Im gonna play it on Survival in Dead is Dead mode (any death = game over) after I learn game more. Getting resists, more health and good armor looks to be mandatory to avoid being one shoted.
Ammo conservation seems to be a bigger thing in FO4. Before I even think about going on a quest or job I will do a supply run before hand and stock up. Then mod where I can. So for me to do one quest in FO4 at the moment will add up to a total of 3 hours play time lol-and I thought the witcher was gonna be long!
