This game is a hoarder's nightmare and fantasy

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 5:14 pm

I also did not know this for far too long.

I suspect the proper instructions and detail they probably saved for Prima Guide all one

had to do was spend, what 40 dollars?

Yah.

Me, I'll just use online Wikis and forums, already spent 60 and foolish me expected a real game manual as was done in years past when

oine bought a AAA title. Cost of print production should not factor as no need for paper manuals these days.

Interesting. I didn't know you could do this! How does it work exactly?

When you want to craft something ,you can highlight the components needed for it.

I hate it when the scrap system scraps things that sound somewhat important holotags, distress beacons.

For the most part I agree, just throw your stuff in the common workbench inventory and let it auto scrap for you....but there are a few reasons why it is still a pain to manually scrap.

1- far as I can tell, the workbench only auto scraps Junk - a lot and I mean lot of leather based items are not junk and don't get auto scrapped, so if you are short of leather for armor upgrades, you need to manually scrap gas masks and other really common and plentiful loot that you get from raiders.

When you add plentiful, common, and need to manually scrap as only way to get that leather out, then it is a pain.

2- I am 75% sure of the above but can't say 100% because by the time I realized this, my supply lines had been laid down and it is a major pain to check EVERY settlement in order to test/verify this, to ensure that there are no raw leather and no junk leather to see if non-junk leather gets broken down. But let's say my #1 is wrong, that non-junk is auto scrapped.

In that case then we have problem #2 - if non-junk items are auto scrapped, you have no control over which item gets scrapped. Which means either store all your stuff separately for stuff you want to keep or keep around temporarily, or you manually scrap to ensure you have supply of raw parts on hand so that auto scrapping doesn't kick in.

It's one way or the other - either it auto scraps everything in which case we have one kind of problem, or it only auto scraps junk classified gear, in which case we have the other issue.

I have terrible OCD and I was worried about getting 4 because of it. 3 is bad for me (even though I still love it ) because with dialogue and items I could just never decide what to do or what to bring back when im over my weight limit and stuff. I pretty much just always ended up having to look up online what each outcome was and taking hours to research every path in the game instead of just playing it. I like 4 because the dialogue is a bit easier to know what youre selection will mean and with items (namely junk) you just scrap it and you can see what its good for right away. Loving this. I know I am gonna try to just play and have fun in 4 instead of worrying if I miss something.

Last night in the woods in Fallout 4 I saw a turned over shopping cart. I was pissed I could not use it. :)

How can you function in the post apocalypse without pushing a shopping cart?

To avoid multiple trips, I used the console to give myself +1000 carryweight. Even with that, I run out of room. Since that is my only cheat, I don't feel too bad.

Junk never excited me prior to this game. I get almost giddy over a broken lamp or telephone now.

I have found a total of 4 companions so far, and I just made a beeline to Silver City with a couple of side quests along the way. As to how many you can have at once, don't know that answer. But, a mod will come along and remove whatever limitation the game has placed on the companion count.

So far for me

Spoiler
it's been one at a time; I've gotten Dogmeat, Codsworth and Preston Garvey and have taken them all out with me to see which one I like best. When I tell one to follow me, my current companion is auto-dismissed and I'm given the choice of sending them to any of the settlements I've set up.

I think i will be dead and buried before I ever finish this game with the amount of time spent collecting EVERYTHING in an area and then sorting through it all for stuff i wan't to keep for decorating settlements.

You can also do it from your Pip-Boy for specific components. Just go to your Junk section, hit the button to switch to Component view, then tag the items you want to search for. When you come across an item that has the components you have tagged, a magnifying glass will appear next to it's name. I did this for Adhesive, Aluminum, Fiberglass, Oil, and Screws, and with the exception of Adhesive, I have a solid supply of each of them.

This to me is the most useful and apt suggestion I've heard on these boards since the game released!

I have been thinking as much myself!

What should we do to try to insure the developers understand how much of a boon this little tweak would be to us users?

The "Help" menu in game says "you can have one at at time."

With 6 strength, strong back level 2 and all my armor modded with deeper pockets I have a carry weight of 370. I can carry around tons of guns and loot tons of stuff I love it.

From further up this thread, someone already gave me this tip -

It does work - I just tried it out at a new settlement.

My other point still stands - it would have been nice if the devs had told us about this in the game, instead of making us waste a bunch of time fiddling around (or scouring the forums looking for help).

Ummm... they do state this in the game, just fyi. It's part of the popup tutorials as I recall.

There are other things they do not explain, but at least this particular mechanic isn't one of them. ;)
