This game isn't an RPG anymore, just a G with a story. 110

Fallout 4 would of been a even better RPG video game if Bethesda Game Studios didn't remove the armor and weapons degradation system, let all NPC's be killable, had the same dialogue system since The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (the dialogue wheel is very bad), the level scaling is also very bad. I like RPG video games to not have any level scaling at all, no ammo crafting like in Fallout: New Vegas svcks, no hardcoe Mode like in Fallout: New Vegas also svcks.

I've been modding since before modding was a thing. And honestly, it gets tiresome after a while and most mods aren't worth the trouble they can bring. I shouldn't have to mod it to make it feel more like Fallout or more like an RPG game. It should already be that. And you're right, I don't like change. But this is more than change. Fallout 4 is an orange compared to 3/NV which would be apples. It's an apple to orange comparison because it's not the same thing anymore. I would welcome changes had the game itself stayed the same, but it didn't, so the changes aren't welcome.

I would also like to say PC gamers should have to make or download and install mods to get features back that Bethesda Game Studios removes or adds.

We should be using that time to make or download and install mods that add new armor, weapons, quests, NPC's buildings, landmass. Stuff like that.

I don't understand how separate armor pieces is part of your "not an RPG" rant. I think it's a step forward for them and would be great if they expanded upon this.

I'll put it short and blunt: it's an absolute [censored] to piece together (matching) armor instead of just selecting your armor and being done with it. What is this now, armor simulator 2015? On top of that, the armor can be modified. It's a clusterfunk of a system that was fine to begin with in previous games. Overly complicated for no good reason.

Tell me one reason why I can't just select the armor I want, and then mod the individual pieces the way I want?

Or hell, even organizing the armor by type/style would help immensely.

Otherwise, how it is now, I'm not going to spend 30 minutes trying to find a left leg that matches the right leg, and left and right arms that match the legs. That's just [censored] ridiculous.

Um do you not remember that in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind you have separate armor pieces?

The one reason why Bethesda Game Studios never added it back in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is because the hardware limitations that the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Xbox 360 have.

Now with the more RAM that that PC's, PlayStation 4 (PS4), and Xbox One has Bethesda Game Studios is able to bring it back.

Level scaling? I believe there is none.. As soon as I left sanctuary I encountered two bloodbugs and a mean ass Yao Gui.. I thought Todd or someone said they removed level scaling.. I personally like the dialog, as so far everything I've chose has been pretty much what I would say.. But some people are picky I guess.. Yeah I was bummed about no hardcoe mode but that's about it, I enjoy the rest of the game.

I don't know. Todd Howard said if you are level 10 and you go to a place where NPC's are level 30 you will die, but if you level up to level 31 those level 30 NPC's end up leveling to level 31 also.

I think there is some minor level scaling, but it's not as bad as previous games. I've run into several skull enemies and have had fights where I really shouldn't have lived, much less won. If I was playing on anything higher than normal, they would have been impossible.

I promised myself that I wouldn't get involved in the old vs new arguments this time around. I understand that for many RP means managing stats as a primary feature.

When I started playing FO4 I began to worry that the systems had, indeed, been dummied down a bit too much. I thought that the voiced characters would be annoying and detract from gameplay. Then I hit the city and I remembered why I like these Beth games. Exploration has been massively improved, as has the ambiance and the size of the world. The city seems massive, and wandering around it's ruins is amazing.

Yes I get it: We have many folks here who lament what is lost, but there are many of us who are enjoying the heck out of this game. Some are going to pick apart every aspect of the game. I don't think it's perfect myself, but I think mods will fix most of my issues.

So play it if you like it. if you don't, well, you should have known by now what kind of game it was going to be. Better off waiting for another Wasteland, or (I hope, because more fallout!) an Obsidian version next year.

I skimmed until I saw "linear in every sense of the word". Is there maybe a misunderstanding of what a linear game really is? Call of Duty's campaign is what you'd call linear; as in you start at point A and go to point B on what is more or less a confined track. If you can choose where you go and what quests to do when, (as in Fallout 4) then we're already very far from "linear in every sense of the word". And that's not even going past the surface. Is Fallout 4 the apex of non-linearity? Arguably not. But seriously. Give me a break. There are definitely certain aspects that other Fallouts have done better, but there are a LOT of things that Fallout 4 does immensely better than any of its predecessors. It's not perfect and it is its own breed. I'm a long time Fallout fan and I love me a hard core RPG. I get it-- the removal of skills and whatnot, plus the voiced protagonist--- it sounds kinda scary. This one has a lot of change, and that can be bothersome, but try to have an open mind, because frankly Fallout 4 is amazing, despite some kinks that will hopefully be patched up. I think it's a real pity if you can't enjoy it.

And is it an RPG? Can we not start a whole philosophical debate on "what is an RPG"? There's no correct answer, other than "who cares". Can you be who you want? Pretty much, yes. Can you go where you want? Absolutely. Can you DO whatever you want? You bet. Can you develop a unique set of abilities that differ profoundly from that of another player? Definitely. Does that make it an RPG? Who cares. It's still not perfect. But a "1/10" is just ignorant.

This isn't Elder Scrolls or any other game, so don't compare the two. I don't want features from other games, I don't care what works in other games, I care about Fallout and Fallout only. It's the ONLY RPG game that I can get into, and now it's ruined for me. But oh well. Back to sim racing and GTA I go. I'll put my money where the good games are, and that isn't here.

Well I never purchased Fallout 4 still and I don't know much about it other than what we have been told official by Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios and well by the people who purchased it and played it.

But I will criticize Bethesda Game Studios for the features that they have removed and added again.

Should I just stand by and watch and not say anything? Other than The Witcher 3, Divinity Original Sin, Rebel Galaxy, Wasteland 2 I don't have many video games to play for this year other than those 4 video games I named. My backlog is also too huge.

In the mean time I can just keep on playing The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the next 20 years.

You have to remember Bethesda Softworks purchased the Fallout Intellectual Property (IP) from InterPlay back in 2004. The Fallout Intellectual Property (IP) is Bethesda Softworks' now and given to Bethesda Game Studios to develop, except for Obsidian Entertainment for Fallout: New Vegas.

Personally I'm very happy Bethesda Game Studios added the separate armor system from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in Fallout 4.

I actually wish all RPG video games have the separate armor pieces system.

No they did not, they licensed the Fallout IP from Interplay, who still held actual ownership of the Fallout IP.

Bethesda was contracted to make 3 Fallout games + DLC for those games, and then their contract would have been up.

Bethesda only gained actual full onwership of the Fallout IP after Interplay fumbled the MMO project and the courts gave the IP to Bethesda.

The story svcks.

The writing is worse than that of a 7 year old.

The characters are not memorable.

The engine svcks.

The commonwealth is one of the worst game worlds Bethesda has made.

Mediocre game all around. It is a raider filled wasteland and a junk collector for a clunky base building sub game.

4/10

Beth needs to learn from CD Projekt Red.

Bethesda is disappointing more and more with each new release.

This is true but it also has to be the most rare ammo to find least for me. Bugs, glitches, CTD's aside the only thing I am not happy with is the radio dj. If there is one person I absolutely want to put a bullet in it is that guy. Oh and we need a settler/settlement window so I can know who is doing what. Such a headache once you get a bunch of people to join you.

+1

I just stopped by steam to read the negative reviews. Looks like I'm not alone in my thoughts and opinions.

Bethesda needs to give FO back to someone that knows what they're doing with the franchise.

Bethesda ruined Fallout. If your opinion differs, you don't know what Fallout is.

Witcher 3 was great and i enjoyed it but guess what... It has no repeatability. In fallout 4 I can make multiple characters with different skills.

Fallout 4 is a fallout game; it is not very different from 3 or new Vegas. The biggest difference is in today's society people like to whine and complain more than anything and are under the delusion that people give a flying crap what they say.

You are not special. Your thoughts on the game are your own opinion which is fine. No need to be on these boards... Go play a better game?
