This game lacks seriously ambition

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 9:21 am

I don't quite understand.

You're given limitations already. You need HP or you die. If you get too much radiation, you die. If you run out of ammunition, you can't shoot people.

How is adding food, water, and sleep to those requirements considered silly? In real life, you need food and water just as much as you need ammunition to use guns. Yeah, Fallout isn't real life, but they're obviously emulating it in some aspects, and food, water, and sleep are no different.

I would have preferred them to make a seperate karma tracker for each faction. So you could have good karma with the institute, neutral karma with a raider gang, but evil karma with a particular town.

That would solve the moral ambiguity problem and allow the game to have some depth to it.

What I was meaning to say is that needing a hardcoe mode in the game to do this is silly.

In every Bethesda game my characters eat and sleep...and in a way that made much more sense than the meters in NV.

hardcoe mode isn't needed as Bethesda has created a world where that and other other limitations you want on your character work.

It isn't about needing, but having that option. You actually are forced to make choices based on the state of your character, just like you would with HP, AP, and radiation. It just adds to the challenge the game gives you.

Honestly, if our imaginations were that good that we could restrict ourselves every single time, we wouldn't be playing video games in the first place.

Yeah, I personally liked the NV hard core system, because it was a nice little way of the game accepting the daily intake needs of your characters RP. Food and drink restore health, and give temporary buffs now, but it would be nice if your character had some level of apparent need for it. Even if the game wont kill you for not feeding them.

One of the things I liked that they did do, was have the companions note when the sun was setting, that it would be dark soon, and therefore dangerous. They will say so too, and recommend finding shelter to sleep in. Just something I enjoyed to hear, even if the rewards of sleep aren't compelling enough to do it often.

So....the game allows you to limit your character however you wish, but because you lack the ability to restrict yourself you think the game lacks ambition.

It feels weird having food and water in-game without actually needing it. It feels even more awkward when you don't bother using Stimpaks because food does a better job healing you..

Slavery - this is not Washington where the Pitt organized slave hunts. Nobody really needs slaves here

Prostitution - that would be a pointless gimmick at best

More monsters - the monster rooster is good enough, especially seeing that each is interesting enough. Quality over quantity, DLCs will add more anyway

Sea Monsters - if that means underwater gameplay, than NO

Karma System - Beth discarding this BS is their best decision for this game... not to mention it would kill the Moral Ambiguity that the game aims at

Harder Survival Mode - agree

Aliens - no. Nope. Just no

Weapons - there are many more weapons as each weapon has modifications that can turn it into a vastly different weapon, not to mention that some legendaries have their own unique mod trees

Vehicles - implementing such a feature would mean Beth reducing their budget for other features. And I prefer these other features so no

Choices - the global choices in FO4 are the best in series 'till now and only the side quests could use more. FO3 style of being either a goodie two shoes or a psychopath is so shallow it does not even deserve being mentioned in choice and consequence discussions

All in all, this is a list of things you would personally want, not a discussion of lack of ambition.

The only edgy Fallout is FO3. FO1 follows far after while FO2 and NV are brighter in tone. Even devs of Wasteland 2 (basically Fallout Prototype the Sequel) went for a brighter tone. That is, Fallout is really not about being dark and edgy or whatsoever. Actually, the Fallout Universe is not a story about survival or a harsh and unforgiving world but a story of restoration. FO1 and FO3 are dark because it shows parts of the world that have yet to start restoring themselves whereas FO2, NV and FO4 show a world that is getting back up.

I never said the game lacks ambition. I think it forgets that it's an RPG and a Fallout game.

What do you think of when you think "post-apocalypse"?

Food. Water. Shelter. Guns. Ammo.

.. yet only the latter two are requirements in Fallout 4. Odd for a post-apocalyptic setting, don't you think?

My bad...I mistook you for the OP.

You don't need guns and ammo....you don't even need a weapon. You don't need sleep, food, or lock picking skills, or clothes.

But....you can require all of those for you character if you wish. Or not. You chose.

dunno, I found a child, and a Gunner immediately offered to buy him off me. The Gunners are slavers, by the looks. I wouldn't want that to be *playable*, but as something to fight against it makes more sense than "freeing the robots". "Hey, we have no problem with the gunners buying up kids, but don't oppress those synths!"

isn't prostitution hinted at?

iirc, some npc was saying something about how soldiers come in with radiation burns and stds on their ahem man parts from doing the pow wow with a ghoul lady of the night in a nearby town.

also there's slavery in fo4.

if anyone is wondering about it, it's a guy who's in a faction that's feline in nature.

I'll play devil's advocate and say that there should be more 'evil' options. But on the flip side it was hard as hell to be a good guy in Skyrim. This is just the design choice BGS went with and I respect it. It might have been a tougher balancing act with a voiced protagonist. That's just one more hurdle to overcome. Hopefully there are more 'evil' options in DLC and in TES VI.

OP's right about one thing, Fallout 4 is not dark enough. Beth also went way too safe in other areas which is disappointing but not the end of the world.

Patently absurd. Big title games are orders of magnitude more expensive today than the FO1 / FO2 generation. That's why most require capital backing.

back in FO1 time you had like 5-10 coders in an office working on a game, requiring very little money. These days a game has hundreds of people working on the end product, internationally, with a budget bigger than most blockbuster movies. (I remember when games were developed by ONE person in their bedroom lol... ah, Commodore 64, I loved you)

I agree with OP's original list. There's much more that would fit into a postapocalyptic world and increase authenticity.

I just find it stupid every gun shot rips off limbs and explodes heads and you can even pick up bits of brain matter and play with it but some how they can't show nudity or six? Really quite happy to show people mass murdering fellow mankind but six is just so evil and corrupt!?!

This is meant to be a world with limited order. Where bands of murdering bandits roam everywhere. Do you think they only care about stealing food? The game is not as dark and upsetting as it needs to be. Beth really don't do the IP justice.

It's a game and it's meant to be open world, we should be able to decide how to play how we want to. I don't agree with the way the op wants to play but that's not to say it should not be an option.
