This game made me sad :(

Post » Tue Feb 09, 2010 5:07 am

I went into my first Cave (outside Goodsprings), and I saw a couple Coyotes so I shot them... then I saw a few Coyote Pups run at me... and.. they're cute lookin'... and.. I killed them because they attacked me.
Now I feel like a horrible person. I don't think I can ever kill a critter in this game again. :(

Why do you feel bad about it?
Have you looked around the cave?
Those "pups" are eating humans, and when they grow up they're gonna be advlts and eat humans.
They're no different to kill than the advlts, just cause they're cute looking doesn't mean that they're "good".
I love killing those pathetic miniature coyotes, especially with big weapons as their bodies just splatter all over the place.

Like, imagine if your sister/brother/cousin disappeared, then you go out to find him, you enter a cave and find his bloody clothes and some flesh scattered around as you see a bunch of pups lying there well fed and satisfied with your sister/brother/cousin's flesh slowly digesting inside of them.
I think that puts some perspective on it.
Maybe "you" don't know the people who died in there but those people that the coyotes ate of has friends and family themselves who will never see them again.

So if puppies aren't invincible, then how come human kids are? This is blatant discrimination.

Wow you're really thinking this through. Good effort. :spotted owl:

This is when I'd put on the big chunky boots and start stomping coyote pup heads.

The irony is that I myself love to take the Cannibal perk.
(I do consider those characters to be evil though, lawful, neutral, chaotic, simply evil, never anything below that.)

you won't be saying that when baby deathclaws are running at you. Trust me.

p.s. - it's only a game... they're not real pups. Shhhh don't tell anyone...

Man I remember the time I killed the deathclaw mother with my AMR, and all the deathclaw babies circled around the body. Never saw deathclaws in that way. Even mutant reptile military experiments feel.

It's not like you started it! I mean, they knew that attacking a rather big human with lots of guns might not be smart but they still did it. Dont start what cant finish!

If you want to even up the balance I suppose you could go and execute that horrible little child in the school room up at the boomers airport..

I don't go in that cave until after I've taken the Animal Friend Perk. I will defend myself against any coyote or anything else that attacks me though. It bothered me also when I had to kill a Legion dog at Cottonwood Cove to end a quest and this was after I had taken Animal Friend. I thought it was an overlooked logic error in the quest. The Legion dog was not attacking me.

Part of the game if you're an animal lover...you sometimes need to kill something but you don't have to feel good about it...good that the game makes you feel. :)

Yeah that kinda got to me as well. Shot the advlts then saw the pups before I knew there were pups. Still its been said they do eat people and in the end its us or them :gun:

Hopefully a DLC will bring wolves back.

As animals they're surely innocent. If they're vicious killers it's because that's what they are. Unlike humans, who (should) know better.

And in view of how the human race almost destroyed all life, it's more than fair that they should try to eat us!

Kill puppies: game gets M rating. Sony and Microsoft accept it for their platforms. Bethseda gets filthy rich.
Kill kids: game gets AO rating. Sony and Microsoft won't accept it. Bethesda goes broke.

Pretty simple math, yes?

It's discrimination none the less, no matter which level of the food chain it comes from.

Yes, I felt the same. Saw a cayote, shoot him, then I saw the mother, shoot her. I looted both of the and were on my way, until I saw a little pup coming running against me. I shot him to, and when I saw the little puppet laying there, besides his dead mother, I felt sad :(

I respect you guys for caring, and for being so decent. I was used to forums like ..well no matter..... where I can imagine most responses would be "I killed the puppies 4 lolz dont be a [censored] lol" so your concern for their wellbeing is.. sweet. And has restored my faith in the internets.

Some animals have the sense to snarl at you and crouch down, as a warning they WILL attack if you get any closer. Atleast if they do that you know you starting on them will be then your own fault. But if an animal attacks you without warning or even gives you a chance to back off, what are you meant to do? Let it kill you?

I know animals have a very righteous reason to be pissed with the human race in general in this game but nonetheless, if they start on one solitary human they should expect a little resistance.
I love animals, but regardless, if you have a pet and it steps out of line you have to teach it to respect the master.

On a side note, does anyone know if the animal husbandry farm is of any relevance to any quests within the game? I wandered round putting down malnourished neglected sick brahmin etc thinking I was doing the right thing. I hope I wasnt wrong.

When I first started to play Fallout 3 I absolutely refused to attack any vicious dog that came near me. I'd run until it gave up. I was able to get past that while playing Point Lookout (3-4 vicious dogs came after me out of nowhere. I had no choice.) Sometimes I still run, I'll admit it.

And to be quite honest, I rarely ran into any coyotes, nightstalkers, etc in New Vegas until I was around level 15 or so. By then I already had Animal Friend, so it wasn't a problem. I can only recall running into one lone coyote very early on. It hurt to put it down, but..

This might seem a bit strange, but.. Whenever I find dog meat (the consumable, not the companion), I take it far, far away from NPCs and throw it into the desert. I feel horrible knowing that some NPC could be eating a dog. I do the same thing with strange meat/strange meat pies.
