This game is not user-friendly

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 9:55 am

I know there's plenty of people who've gotten to level 60 or higher without using the map or the compass or fast travel, and who are even demanding that the game make them stop to eat, sleep, and take a crap, but for the casual gamer, it can be really frustrating. I'll look at my quest log and it will tell me to go deliver a Sword of Wounding to Farael or something. I have no idea what a Sword of Wounding is or where the hell to find Farael. And the quest descriptions are not much help either, just short little sentences. I really like this game but I don't have much spare time, so when I do get a chance to play I'd rather actually play the game instead of looking through a wiki to find out what I'm supposed to do.

A hardcoe mode would be great for the hardcoe crowd. But how about throwing in some directions or better descriptions for the non-hardcoe people?

Yeah, there's no way for you to find out this stuff at all. If only they would include a compass that would point you out to the next stage in the quest or something. Or even if not that... how about a spell that makes a blue path to where you need to go?

Come on, Bethesda! Get with the program!

My refrigerator isn't user-friendly either I have to walk to it, manually open it, search for what I want, take the item I was looking for, and then manually close it.

If the arrows that point you exactly to where you need to go don't help you, nothing really will. Try Angry Birds.

Have you used the map? Or activated the quest? It tells you exactly where people are.

When looking at your quest log you can decide to Mark or unmark a quest, marking a quest will tell you where to go via an arrow on your map/compass, to mark/unmark a quest highlight it and hit "A" on the xbox controller

Whoa there's a spell that does that? That sounds pretty handy. I'll look into it. Thanks!

Sarcasm removed for this post - the spell is called Clairvoyance, you can get it from the vendor in Riverwood or for free as a tome in a loot nearby there - forgotten where exactly.

I know for miscellaneous tasks, they can't do a whole description. There wouldn't be much to write, anyway. But I wish it instead said, "Deliver the Arrow of Knee Wounding to Bob in Whiterun" instead of just Bob. Then when I was there, I could ID all the Whiterun tasks and do them in one go instead of happening to talk to the right guy. "Oh, I had something for you. Apparently."

You can just follow the compass arrow to exactly where you need to go, but for all the talk of making it user friendly and easy for casual players to get into, it sure makes it hard to actually know what is going on in your quest. What happened to journal updates? Sure, I can do what my compass tells me, but I sometimes have no idea what's going on if I haven't been doing that quest for a while and try to come back to it.
