This Game Should Be Insanely Hard!

Post » Mon Oct 19, 2009 6:27 am

Just a suggestion of how the game should be like.

First of all, something about Fallout 3 I never really liked: It made post-apocalyptic wastelands seem easy. They made the wasteland seem like a happy-go-lucky sandbox. Once you get to level 25 or something, you are able to completely overpower nearly every enemy by then.

I like the additions they've made already, with the hardcoe mode: dehydration, stimpaks, and doctor bags, the gameplay seems pretty awesome. But, I believe that hardcoe should be well, hardcoe. And by hardcoe, I mean unbelievably difficult, but doable. Because that's what wastelands are about, right? Survival, not pwnage. Every single encounter with a mutated beast should be a grueling life/death thing, with more interactivity with enemies. Also, limping, and eventually crawling when limbs are broken would be cool. Mutated limbs should grow, and either aid or attack you. And you'd have to like, saw the mutant limbs off, which would also be sweet.

If you have any other suggestions or ideas, post here! Thanks :)

I 110% agree. The problem with Fallout 3 is that after about 15-20 hours in you're just a god. The wasteland isn't about survival, it's about you and your 90000 plasma ammunition or chinese assault rifle ammo and seeing how many deathclaws you can kill in under 10 seconds, and how many raiders you can take on with your 500 stimpaks bought with your 50000+ caps. That's not fallout. I completely agree with you on all your points.

I agree, but it should be adjustable so as not to turn some people off. I agree that Fallout 3 was way too easy and the Wasteland didn't feel dangerous, though. The survival aspects just weren't there.

I would like to see certain areas of the map where you simply wont survive in until the later levels, because of insanely difficult or numerous enemies, in fallout 3 you can pretty much treck from one end of the map to the other on a low level only encountering a few low level raiders and radscorpians (with the exception of ol' olny and DC). I want whole regions of the map that i truly dread going to because the enemies are deadly.

No, no...There's no such thing as a right or wrong opinion. There's educated and ignorant opinions, but definately no such thing as right or wrong opinions.

Some other suggestions would be:

- Hunting: The ability to salvage materials, build traps, then deploy traps instead of running into the enemy headfirst with a gun.
- Camping: Your player gets tired over time, and needs to set up camp. (Make a fire, tent, etc.)
- Environment: Even more monstrous animals come out at night, but you can stalk their dens during the day, if you dare.

So, were you just trying to give an example of a "wrong" one there, or...? :P

No, I'm just saying that...they are certainly entitled to...want the game to be needlessly hard. No judgement. It's a free country.

If you are on the PC. Get some major mods and you will see how living in the wastes really is.

I think you're misreading. I don't want Fallout NV to be just plain difficult, but to be innovated in a way that makes the game more challenging. (Not just raising power of enemies and limiting ammo, but adding in new, more realistic features.)

I agree fully and hardcoe mode is something I wait for a lot. Wasteland should feel like wasteland, empty and unforgiving, distances should be longer and you shouldn't run into stuff every 30 seconds. It's even more frustrating with high level character as certain lead sponges are annoying. Hey I was going somewhere but couple albino scorpions took half of my ammo.

I think "needlessly" was an indicator of judgment, no? :P

While I do think that saying, "the game should be insanely hard" evokes the wrong connotation, I did find myself thinking that the game would have been more exciting if it were a little more challenging. I don't think an increase in difficulty or challenge in certain areas for the sake of increasing entertainment value would be needless. Of course, the necessity of such a thing is an opinion.

Happens to be one I agree with, though. I felt Fallout 3 started to feel a little repetitious toward the middle and through to the end because the difficulty leveled off to the point that I was able to surmount most obstacles by "going through the motions" I'd become accustomed to...there were no new challenges presented. I didn't feel pressed, and I didn't need to continue to adapt or put forth much effort anymore. To me that got pretty boring...there was no sense of accomplishment anymore. I wasn't being given opportunities to defeat difficult enemies by being clever or utilizing some weapon I'd been saving for a rough situation...simply firing my weapon at my enemies and spamming the many, many stimpacks I had got me through any situation. Kinda made me want to zzzzzzzzzzzzzz sometimes.

Games like this will never be as hard as games were 15 years ago.... When computer's weren't in every house, games were designed for a more elite, educated and wealthy clientele... Now that everyone has a computer and/or console, developers have to build the games for the dullest, braindead gamers out there.... If they don't the stockholders won't support them, because they won't be making the most money possible... Blame poor people for weaksauce games...

@ Listerman
No offense meant... reality can hurt though....

There are plenty of old developers who will back me up on this... And with a little logical thought, you'll see I'm not blowing smoke here...
The Williams (Sierra games- Kings Quest, Space Quest' etc) made some of the most influential computer games in history and no longer want anything to do with an art form that has become an industry and then been stupified as a result.

Mhmm, hardcoe mode is gonna make it more interesting! My posts above are suggestions that would improve on hardcoe mode.
