This is how i avoid getting bored of skyrim

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:12 pm

This may seem a bit obvious to some, but give it a chance.
Collecting. Collect everything. But heres the trick, drop them in your house in a place you will see them when entering = visually satisfying. You're not going to get much out of storing them in a cupboard. In breezehome i have a big pot of gems and soulstones that im filling up, it really inspires me to play more and collect. A house full of treasures.

Dragon fights getting repetitive? Collect the bones and scales, store them in your house. Next time you fight a dragon you'll want to kill it, to simply collect the bones.
Dungeons getting boring? Pick up, for example, skeleton skulls (Pick an item that interests you and make a note to pick them up)
Pickpocketing got old fast? Collect the rings and gems you pickpocket and store them. Drop them in a basket or cauldron.
Too many potions? Drop them in your house in a pile, and add to it as you advance in the game.

Theres nothing more satisfying to me than walking in my home and seeing my shelves stacked with all sorts of interesting items. And piles of gems.

My Redguard scholar is collecting books, but only books that have to do with the gods. That is her area of study. Also, she is making it a point to visit each and every temple and shrine in Skyrim.

I did this in Oblivion.

Sadly, in Skyrim, things I place around my house disappear after I leave. :sadvaultboy:

So I don't bother now.

Collect flawless jewels. Then start piling them up in an open container. Beautiful.

I collect all kinds of stuff...skulls, troll skulls, spigots, jewelry, gems, all kinds of stuff. Most of it goes in containers, but I drop skulls, drums, flutes around the house.

One thing that keeps me from getting bored is night hunting. Last night I started out in Ivarstead and went all the way to Rifton with a bow while sneaking, collecting ingredients all the way.
It increased my sneak, archery and light armor, and I had loads of ingredients, hides, and ores to show for it...(I always carry a pick axe).
Falkreath area is next.
I've also tweaked my PC .ini so that the compass does not show at all, so I don't see any red dots at all...but wolves howl.
Night hunting is a blast!
Never a dull moment...

Sweet nice idea :)
Currently am on the mission of steal myself a home, what i mean by that is only gold from Thief's guild quest, selling what i steal and what i pickpocket :)

However i do ask, how big cauldrons and baskets do you use? Whats the biggest there is and how do i obtain them..

(And i really wish i could drop the unusual gem. Would be an awesome decoration)

I've collected some minor things. I planned on collecting the Dragon Claws, but my home in Riften glitched so now the Ruby Claw is... Somewhere outside of my reach. And I use the 360 version, so there's not much I can do besides complain.

Thanks Sneezlee. That's a good idea. I'll give it a shot, although I'm 230 hours in, and don't feel bored just yet. But it's still a good idea, nonetheless.

I don't get bored with Skyrim because I have a full-time job and a relatively active social life.

I picked up the game on release night and have only put in about 45-50 hours since on two different accounts.

Same thing I did with Oblivion. The game will last me 3-4 years, and it'll be the only game I play during that time. Again, just like Oblivion.

Great Idea.. I always liked those gems such as Ruby and Saphire etc...
I think i'll be collection Flawless Ruby and store them in a Bucker or a Cauldron.. really great idea, loved it..

I've always enjoyed Rings.. Going to get them not just for selling anymore. ;)
I'm feeling kinda stupid by how i never figured that up... of Collecting items... lol

What console commands do you use to accomplish this?

One thing that keeps me from getting bored is night hunting.

That is a lot of fun. When 8:00 pm hits, I set the timescale to 5 and go exploring and hunting. I've just about discovered every place on the map. Then when 6:00 am hits, I reset the timescale back to 1:20 and let the day pass normally.

The sheer ammount of items is incredible. My Breezhome containers are bulging because like you I am also a collector. But there are a number of houses I have with the same problem,... too much stuff :)

I really want to do this. I have cupboards, wardrobes, and sacks filled with random stuff but I'm to terrified to actually take it out because it always just explodes all over my house and/or disappears... Then I have to take Lydia up to the throat of the world and whisper sweet fus ro dah's in her ear (yes I blame Lydia) because she threw yet another temper tantrum over being left at home.

If they ever fix the houses so things actually stay where I put them I would spend huge amounts of time decorating and filling kettles, cauldrons and baskets with stuff but I already lost the multi-colored Statue of Dibella from Riften to a pissed off Lydia...

I collect troll skulls and leave them outside people's houses I don't like. If they don't have a house I just put it where they hang out. Why do I do this? I have no idea.
