This is how tes v SHOULD look like :'(

of course it does make sense.

what doesn't make sense is that the graphics didn't improve over 5 years. does it?

I'm not following your logic.

The Graphics are much better in Skyrim than Oblivion.

I'd suggest getting to the Eye Doctors ASAP.

You must have 70/20 vision or something.

Honestly, I think a few of you need to go replay Oblivion. It has gorgeous graphics, but these are far better.

Also, wait for the hi-rez GI hub images.

I can't see games looking that detailed until the next gen consoles are out or someone pulls out all the stops for the high-end PC market.

What I like so much about Oblivions graphics is that they don't look bad with age, only more cartoonish, but still good. Hopefully in 5 years we will still say Skyrim has great graphics.

I'll tell you what I tell everyone that complains about the looks of a game they see in game informer. You need to wait til you see the actual game play at E3 so that you can see it in 1080p and not in a dot printer picture. Not to mention if it is "OK" right now, Bethesda has 10 months to touch it up and the PC version always has greater freedom of graphics and the screenshots in GI are xbox screenies.

The pictures released does not have maximized graphics, because the game doesn't have them yet. It is also well known that stand-alone pictures often fail to capture the true graphics of a game.. especially when they're this blurry.

I suggest everyone calm down regarding the graphics because once we start seeing some actual video footage when all graphics have been implemented, we will be [censored]ting bricks.

honestly, the most i care about in terms of graphics is the mountains.

I just don't want height map mountains covered with boulders to "simulate" the look of real mountains. Real mountains have weird shapes, extruding rocks and cliffs, not just cosine waves.

You cannot advance graphics while currently being held back by current gen console hardware.

Until developers decide to make for the PC and then downgrade for the console version then it isn't going to evolve until the next console release.

except a bunch of no-name Ukrainians did exactly that with Metro 2033, and it looked as good as if not better than Crysis at times.

Maybe Im old, but I already thought the graphics of Morrowind were amazing.
I remember thinking: If only my dad could see this.

First impression of oblivion, me coming out of the sewer and just gaping for a full five min at the georgeousitty.

Skyrim looks awesome too.
Besides, its gameplay that matters and graphics are secondary.

Metro 2033 is mostly small corridors hence you can spend more resources on the nearby walls and effects, while crysis was rendering entire panoramic views of an island. Additionally Crysis released in 2007 and Metro 2033 was released only last year, if anything Metro 2033 should look as good as if not better than Crysis all the time if not they haven't improved on something that came out almost 4 years ago.

Regardless of this my statement was that consoles are holding back development in games and they are, if you compare the 360 version of Metro 2033 to the PC version you will see the difference.

Are you really comparing the appearance of a game that is mostly under ground in close quaters to that of an open world RPG?

Why?

I don't see that the game would be improved a bit were it using photo-realistic graphics, indistinguishable from life.
The game is the gameplay, not the glitter.

I'd gladly buy a TES VI with downgraded Morrowind style graphics, if it meant they were using the CUDA processors for the AI; and using a database for text based Chatbot controlled NPCs..

Why is everyone so negative about the graphics? They look awesome to me. Where does everyone get these crazy expectations from?

The graphics are stellar imo. Not Crysis, but who cares. With graphic mods (SGE, Skyrim Graphic Extended) we will make Skyrim look better than Crysis ;)

Lol I think everyone being happy with something on here would count as a sign of the apocalypse, or something equally as drastic :P

well, many graphical improvements have been made within the industry in the 5 years since oblivions release, but the screens dont really reflect that

Pete Hines and other Bethesda employees, Bethesda's official blog, GI staffers. They built it up to be far, far more impressive than it actually is.

EDIT:

This really isn't true. It may not look spectacular, but there's some definite major improvement from what they had with Oblivion.
