This is how you save anytime you want in survival mode...

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2016 9:15 am

I don't think survival mode will be a mode you need to start from scratch using a new character.

So here's how you save your game whenever you feel like it playing on survival mode.

Simply change from survival mode back to normal mode in the game settings and save your game as normal.

Then to reload your game stay in normal settings load your game and then change back to survival mode in the settings.

I don't see how that wouldn't work.

They could stop difficulty changes once you start, which I'd prefer tbh.

Me replying to Sofajockey saying the same things in another thread:

"And that would potentially remove any negative effects (Hunger ect) your character may have had because the lower settings don't have it."

It makes Survival Mode irrelevant.

It probably would. But if people want it to be more easy (not me) then that's the way to work around the problem. I'm all for the can't save whenever thing but they should bring out a new animation for your character where they lie down and pretend to be dead anytime you see a deathclaw or hope you can outrun the thing.

That will probably work, but if you're interested in playing the game on survival why would you choose to do so in the first place? I mean, it's your loss!

Are you saying the game should protect you from your lack of self-discipline?

It isn't about difficulty. It's choice. Some of the new features I like. I've got mods already that Remove Fast Travel, Add Ammo Weight, The Need to Eat/Drink. Etc.

Others features I don't like. Well, really only one. The No Save one. Either it shouldn't be included, or included as an option.

Why, in a single player game, would this bother you?

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a mod that makes Survival mode friendlier. So save anywhere and Fast Travel to Settlements or anywhere you want.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo. That would stop me from using the new features on my existing characters! Horrible!

+ we don't know yet if the "save only when sleeping"-thing is going to be in the survival mode. He only mentioned thing that they have been trying out, not that it was decided (except diseases, hunger and thirst)

EDIT: Scratch that, just read https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/47cc06/fallout_4_survival_mode_full_overview_extracted/, so I guess it will be that way. And also seems like the OP suggestions will work.

If this was an option, survival mode wouldn't make any sense. I'd think that you'd have to start an entirely new character, but I could be wrong.

??? It's a game, nobody is forcing you to play it. If you intend to abuse Survival Mode then yes, it's irrelevant. But only for you. Meanwhile rest of us will enjoy it.

Yeah, I'm also thinking of doing that for Fast Travel since I'm not that 'sit on your butt for 8 hours playing a game'.

Every second counts when I'm playing a game and I want it to be as effective as possible.

If Survival mode doesn't allow me to use my play time well, I'll simply switch it off.

You hit it on the head. I see many people playing on survival and complaining it's too hard. JUST TURN IT BACK DOWN. No one made you play that setting. It's a harder setting silly. HAHA.

Wow why even play in survival mod if your just going to switch to another difficulty then switch back? If your thinking on doing that then the upcoming feature isnt for you.

and why would you want to take your current OP lvl 70+ char with all the Legendary weapons into survival mode? that seems silly to me.

I want to start fresh game in the new survival mode. I want a real challenge!

It won't take long, before a sleeping bag to be carried around mod will appear anyways......

Stability issues is a thing for some people, especially for those who wants many mods.

You could just get a simple mod, that would remove that part from the survival mode ^_^

Espesially those people that will get stability issues (me) will be modding either way ^^

Odds are, you will still be able to save through the command console. Granted, that doesn't help console users. Sheesh, they really need to rename the command console. It can be confusing to point out that you can't use the console with a console and that consoles aren't a console thing.

Yeah, If the "no manual saves" thing ends up in Survival Mode, I'll be looking to mod that out. I'm interested in the other features of Survival, but I hate it when games have limited save systems (checkpoint-only saves, save stations, etc). I want the ability to save and quit when I need to leave my PC, I don't necessarily have the time to spend 10 minutes hunting for a bed so I can shut down my game without losing progress.

Actually, to the degree the Reddit leak is to be believed (sounds legit, but leaked info about a game mode they're still in the process of developing means take it all with a grain of salt,) there is going to be a sleeping bag item that will save your game but not give you regular "sleep" benefits.

Anyway, we've got three Survival Mode topics. I'm going to close this one, as there's already a thread specifically talking about the sleep/save mechanics (http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1593342-should-survival-mode-only-allow-saving-when-you-sleep-part2/) and another thread with a more general overview of the mode (http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1593274-survival-mode-full-overview-confirmed-by-bethesda/.)

Please use one of those existing topics.
