Is this interface the final product?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 1:37 pm

I haven't seen the updated footage from the most recent showings of the game but something that has been niggling in the back of my mind, is the HUD interface. Those bright lime green blocky bars and numbers for health, ammo, rads, etc make my eyes want to roll backwards, launch themselves through my succulent brainmeats and into the back of my skull to huddle together for protection.

Now fallout 3 and NV has a pretty standard HUD, it wasn't anything fancy, it was subtle and non intrusive, but functional and looked pretty good with all the needed information.

Is this nasty eyesore bright as all hell clunky, blocky, downright awful looking HUD going to be the standard in the game? or was it just the basic filler model for the demo and will be smoothed out later? has anyone seen any newer game footage and can confirm any changes?

There definitely is an awful lot of lime green in everything we've seen so far (crafting menu, HUD, etc.), but I'd be surprised if you couldn't select your own color in the settings.

I assume you can change the color but I was more concerned about just the overall shape of the health bar, the ammo count, compared to the previous games they are just so ugly and rushed looking, very basic even as far a health bar goes, the previous games had a set of blips inside of brackets, which isn't complicated, but it looks a lot nicer than just a solid chunk of bar with HP next to it, I could let that go for say an indie game, but I'm going to be very disappointed if this is the final hud for FO4

consider Pete confirmed the game is featurewise done, I would assume it′s final.

I think the HUD looks very clean, actually. The problem with the HP and AP bars in the prior games was that the ticks didn't actually reflect how much health you had.

Bethesda's got a thing for minimalist HUDs and UIs. And the good news is, the HP and AP bars will get out of the way if they're full and you don't need to see them.

It may be that the interface used for the showings is that style to make it easier to see for the audiences there.

One can only hope that they've implemented ideas from all the previous HUD mods.

It is conceivable that, although the game is now finalised, those videos were created using a not-quite finalised version.

Conceivable, but not very likely. I reckon there will be a fair few people lamenting the interface, not just the visual design but the functionality.

I may be one of them :(. Oh well, worse things have happened .

People have always complained about the interface, especially on PC. But I don't see Bethesda's older interfaces as particularly better; especially not when you go older than Morrowind. Those were dark times for GUIs, indeed.

The HuD is the only thing I hate about the game so far. I genuinely despite it. Just not my thing. But it won't stop me having the time of my life playing it :D

If you don't like it, be calm, there will be a mod, several mods, in fact, that will give you several various options to choose from.

That's mostly true of almost everything everyone that wants to try to complain about something.

Have a complaint? Wait a minute. There will be a mod for that.

I'm concerned about the distracting animations that perks, SPECIAL, and limb condition all seem to have.

I don't really see a problem with it. Looks pretty clean to me. I may change the color though.

Once again the UI will be needing some serious modding. When will Beth fire those incompetent "designers" and hire proper ones? Why must the community fix it again?

HUD in particular needs some serious redesign.

Elements waste excessive amount of screen space for starters. Why must they be that huge?

The only thing that I dislike is the electric green color. Hopefully we can change this as we could in the earlier game(s).

Hud mods usually had nothing to do with the GECK so those may be available soon after launch.

lol who is to say what's "fixed"? If you came out with a modified hud and I thought it svcked, can I tell you that you're incompetent as well?

Well opinions are always opinions and I don't know how to design better UI. Thing is, the community has done better job than Beth many times before and not just in the case of UI. And that's a fact.

Your opinion. But I do like the Hud and I did love the vanilla Skyrim UI even on the PC. Each of us will have different opinions and on the PC you will likely have options to change the UI if the game does not have some options already.

The only thing is I hope a mod like MCM will not be part of a UI like SkyUI. I was forced to use it if I wanted to use a mod that needed MCM. Yes there was SkyUI Away but the thing is what is the point to have a mod that gets rid of a mod you do not want so you can get mods you want to run correctly. I do appreciate the work the team did for SkyUI and especially for MCM but I just did not like the feel of SkyUI and SkyUI Away still had some issues for me since some of the UI was still in SkyUI

It is your opinion. There has been some great mods out there but I would not say they have done a better job.

You wouldn't install mods if you didn't think they were better than the vanilla product in the first place.

And I don't understand the PC obsession with shrinking the UI elements to as small as possible and then cramming as much information on the screen as possible. This isn't a grand strategy game.

It's all but certainly mimicking monochrome green terminal output.

(Which didn't have to be green; orange was also common; white really burned the screen though.)

I hope ~this time they put in the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGbnmLxgomE. (I honestly doubt that they knew about it. :sadvaultboy: )

Dont quote me on this, but I cant see Todd Howard showing any footage of this game unless everything shown is final and up to his standards. Seems his standards and yours just dont match.

The only way that UI would ever change now is if there was an outcry from fans and media saying they hate it. Since thats not happening its not going to change.

Ok everyone stop the fisticuffs, this wasn't a round of what's your favorite UI, let me simplify.

Has anyone seen any updated screenshots or seen first hand any gameplay footage or screenshots from gamescom etc, with any changed UI or can confirm that this is the final cut.

That UI is likely the final one since for the most part the game is done. Likely just polishing, bug fixing, and fine tuning the performance.
