Is this just a ripoff of Borderlands?

I really dont think so, other than teh graphical resemblance./ It really looks to me like it's going to bring something new to the plate, or at least, refine the main coarse..

Sorry, last time I checked Borderlands was a hybrid between RPG (Loot and crap) and a shooter with dozens of weapons combined with crappy graphics as visuals. I see none of these except the 'shooter' part in BRINK.

While I have quite a few friends at Gearbox who worked on Borderlands and I love the game, it was not an influence at all on the art style for Brink. We'd already chosen our path before their art restyling was made public.

Hmph I played Borderlands major letdown, and Brink looks so much more bad-ass.

I loved Borderlands and still play it occasionally now (the new DLC brought me back) but this looks GOTY quality to me. I hope it doesn't go under the radar and to the OP, not a rip-off at all.

gameplay wise not at all, and graphically it looks more like the newest prince of Persia than borderlands.

I think he's referring to the character transfer over the game modes, e.g single player and co-op, drop in/out at any time. Etc.

By the looks of it, no. Borderlands doesn't sound quite as seamless in terms of switching from multi to single player and back again. Also, Brink involves a single mission with several different objectives. Borderlands is many smaller, individual missions. The point of playing Borderlands (I found) was to find the best weapon available. That is not the point of this game. This game is 8 vs. 8. Borderlands is up to 4 vs. infinity. Borderlands didn't have human enemies. Brink does... and the list goes on and on. Other than the game type and the fact that experience is gained by the player, these two games are very different beasts.

Well, I thought so at first. It does remind me of Borderlands a little bit, or TF2, but not so much as in terms of gameplay. It reminds me of them in terms of that they are all awesome!

Out of curiosity, have you watched the gameplay videos? If you have, was there something specific in the videos that reminded you of Borderlands? You're not alone, I've seen others draw the comparison too.

Like Badman, I'm a big fan of Borderlands (I still need to play the latest DLC and finally reach level 50), but I've never really seen the comparison.

I think what we're seeing is a general tank-girlesque post-apocalyptic punk feel to both games' styles. I see a slight (and I mean slight) resemblance in the characters and structures (mainly the doorways) to borderlands, but that is about it. I watched the demo (on XBL) and then walked around New Haven. I saw a little bit of familiarity between the two areas, however, it isn't enough to call it a copy or "stealing of ideas". Borderlands is a very fun game, and BRINK is looking to be another shooter that stands out from the crowd.

I loved Borderlands, but it didn't last long for me. I got 3 of the 4 characters to level 50 and I wasn't ging to play as Brick anyways.

I also don't see the similarities between them. Borderlands was a little cartoony and Brink is crisper. I do see they both are shooters/rpg like (with exp and upgrade to character), and they both have "B"s in their names, but that is it

I don't really see how Brink is a rip-off of Borderlands. They are very different shooter games. One is based off of team tactics and the other is just a loot hunting game.

Even the slight graphical resemblance isn't all that much like Borderlands. I admit that there is something there that reminds me of that game but in actuality, I like Brink's graphics a LOAD more.

their nothing like borderlands, if you listened to some interviews you would have heard "25% animated and 75% photo-realistic".

The graphics look similar, but the gameplay looks nothing like it.

It'd be pretty hard to rip it off considering it's been in development since before Borderlands release...

Yeah I see no similarities. Now RAGE on the other hand looks a bit like Borderlands IMO.

Borderlands is a co-op, 3rd person, FPS/RPG hybrid (though it was heavy on the FPS and very light on the RPG)

Besides a similarity in the art (thank god they weren't going for realism) these two games are nothing alike.

So what your saying is Borderlands is a TPS FPS? That doesn't really work you know.
