This Lore hurts my head!

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:08 pm

According to this source Tiber Septim (When he was known as Hjati) was not Dragon BORN, per say.. but granted the powers (once called Thu'um) by Wulfharth in his Underking form.. what? I thought he was Dragon BORN.. hence the name Dragonborn? Another thing, i thought Talos was Tiber Septim only, here it says he is a combination of Tiber, Wulfhart, and Zurin Aractus? And one last thing... i thought the name for Talos in the Skyrim Pantheon is Ysmir, whereas here it says Wulfharth's other name was Ysmir, not Talos?

This is confusing and messing up my Lore knowledge! Someone care to explain?

You may want to go too the lore forum. That's where most of the lore masters hang out.

This. Looks like it got moved, nice.

Don't take the UESP as absolute truth, since anyone can edit it. I'm pretty sure that Hjalti (Tiber's original name) was Dragonborn, since he came up to the Graybeards and wasn't shouted to dust.

The Tiber thing is a whole lot more complex. In short, Talos is a deity created by mimicking the murder and usurpation of Lorkhan back during creation. This mimicry (called "enantiomorph") requires several actors - in this case, Tiber, Wulfharth, and Zurin. Though Tiber was the physical form of Talos, they are all part of that god.

Yeah ive sort of disregarded the bit about him getting his powers from Wulfharth... so, can i think of it as, Tiber has sort of absorbed the power of those two individuals to become Talos? :3

It would probably be more fair to describe them as Avatars of Talos. Or just priests that muddled up the scripture in a way that Talos fits description of each.

It's kinda like how every hero needs a villain, a sidekick, and some innocents to save. On his own, Batman isn't really a hero, right? He needs the Joker to exist.

Talos works in a similar way.

First off, [censored] SUMMARIES!

Second, http://www.imperial-library.info/content/morrowind-arcturian-heresy [censored] YEAH!

Also, you don't need to be a dragonborn to know Thu'um. It's an art that is taught, though to do so is to take a pledge of pacifism and never use it for violence. It's also a REALLY deep seeded art of the nords, tied in tightly with ancient traditions and culture.

But to put it simply, Tiber got Wulfharth to impersonate him, so that it appears as though Tiber was in the battlefield and on the throne at the very same time.

Batman has plenty of other villains to fight other than The Joker. Aside from that, thats a pretty cool anology. :P

If Tiber was seen somewhere at the same time Wulfharth was seen elsewhere, the game would be up. They were supposed to be one person.

We've been told that Tiber Septim was the Septim that made the Septim dynasty, and that the first of the Septims was a dragonborn, but we don't know if Tiber was the first Septim.

Yep, Tiber was the first "Septim". He was Hjalti Early-Beard before he was Tiber Septim, though.

This question is actually about mantling. The Stormcrown was dragonborn, but he wasn't born dragonborn.

All the mantling events I can think of occurred after his meeting with the Graybeards and his mastery of Thu'um. Unless the Graybeards could see that he would become Dragonborn and the Thu'um was his Nordic blood (or both those events were retconed by Talos)? Am I forgetting something?

That is true............I really do not like what people did to the timeline of events in Oblivion on the wiki. The whole era is written up as just what your character did at the time. Helping martin and becoming the leader of all guilds along with the events of SI. Yes they mentioned a little about becoming the Neravrine from TES 3 when it was appropriate of that timeline. But the last part of the third era looks more like a walkthrough after the fact then Lore. Not much is mentioned about things that happened behind the scenes of these events..
