This is not how you sell a game

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 7:45 pm

Ok now I know that some people hated the Crysis 2 demo and some loved it. I was one of the people that loved it (pc). It was great I played it from the time it was launched until they took down the servers. From playing the demo I decided to purchased it on steam. Having said all that I can not understand the things that Crytek and their overlord EA have decided to do with this game. Mostly the marketing aspect. You could call this a list of complaints but its more of a list of why the hell would you do that.

1. Ending the demo a week before release
I guess they just wanted to give us a taste of the game but all of a sudden the servers were down and the demo is actually still up and can be downloaded just unplayable. Maybe they posted the ending date of the demo (they probably did) but I had no idea I was trying to sign on for 2 days before I did a google search and filtered through all that **** to find out that it ended. I don't understand that. They leave the demo up but they don't let you play? I had a bunch of friends asking me why the demo I recommended to them wasn't working. I informed them it ended (because that was too hard for Crytek to make obvious.)

2. TV adds
Crytek and EA started their adds on tv for the game the same week the demo goes down. I don't know about you but when I see an add on tv for a game I want to see if there is a demo. Oh cool there is a demo on steam, I will download said demo.... fantastic this demo doesn't work I can't join any games. Wow the demo is busted doesn't make me want to pre-purchase the full game.

3. DX11 where are you?
So supposedly there will be a DX11 patch on day 1. However this is speculation. I was playing Crysis years ago with dx9/10 and we don't get dx11 out of box from the most graphically advanced game on the market. It is not that it bothers me that it will be patched in. What bothers me is that we haven't had confirmation on when the dx11 patch will come out. Why so secret?? I have seen so many posts and threads that say wow no dx11 I'm not going to get this game now.

4. This site is down all the time and I couldn't log in for quite some time. (unprofessional)

I really want to see this game succeed because I think it will be a fun game. It's like Crytek and EA want this game to fail there is just so many things they do that make me say wtf why the hell would you do that. You are just losing sales for these reasons. It is most likely because it is going on consoles as well but Crytek remember where you fan base started.

TV ads are INCREDIBLY expensive.

They are going for a video campaign: I have never seen this many videos and trailers released for one game before.

I do however agree about the PS3 demo. I have cancelled my pre-order due to being not able to try out the game at all due to them taking it down, even though the reasons for it were okay. I am not going to make a blind-buy. Until I have played/tried the game myself = no buy.

The demo FAQ stated the end date. Sorry you were too dumb to read it?

Like I said they probably posted it. I didn't read the FAQ and I know many other people didn't.

That's like saying that the pie you left in the fridge should have not passed its expiration date because you didn't read the expiration date printed on the package just like many other people.

It's your own damn fault for not reading the FAQ.

Whether or not that's the only place it should've been posted in is irrelevant. You can't complain info wasn't posted when it was, just because you cba to check the FAQ.

So the FAQ said the demo ended. Why is the demo still up and downloadable. You can even log in. Thats my main complaint. End the demo then take down the demo. Thats how other demos end on steam they are taken down.

Yep, in the end, Crytek made some really weird decisions, and jerked everyone around. Not to mention the leak showed everyone how crappy the SP was. Now, few people are going to buy this game and its going to go down as the Bomb of the Year.

i like how people cry that they wont buy the game b/c they didn't get a chance to test it out. I guess they never played games back in the day when there weren't any damn demos, let alone tons of gameplay and hype vids. These people are probably very young and very spoiled with the way things are now....i'm glad they won't be buying the game. scrubs.

They Did Make Some Weird Decisions. But Why Do You Think The SP Is Crappy?

Its not just the lack of DX11 that upsets me, ad the low quality textures the demo had. And there have been no PC screenshots showing what it can do.

Im not pre-ordering this game. Chances of me buying it are slim. I may download it, but if Im not impressed I defiantly wont buy it...

I don't like being jerked around crytek. And I dont like being ignored. A crap console port is not acceptable. This game should have been developed on the PC. Should have shown the world what the PC can do, and what cryEngine 3 could do.

Who makes PC games anymore? Blizzard? oh great...

Doesn't matter. If your going to complain about a fact that you can find in the FAQ (where your supposed to look for facts) then your dumb.

I agree but dx11 is supposed to be patched in. (hopefully day 1) The game play was still great I thought.

Personally I'm dissapointed with what they made with Crysis 2. Limitations everywhere. Attachments are restricted or missing in some weapons. (no assault or sniper scope in the SCARAB, no sniper scope in the SCAR or Grendel, no iron sights in the DSG1), Select Fire only available without underbarrel attachments, global preset graphics configs (Motion blur made the demo unplayable for me. Too much blur unable to be removed even in "gamer"), no developer console, not able to host a local/internet MP game, 12 player limit, no sandbox3 confirmed.

I won't buy this game. Not even download it 4 free. I'm really disappointed. And it's too late for Crytek to make any changes.
