A whistle effect plays and there appears to be an option for a horse marker.

It's the small things like this that makes me facepalm.

 "Why didn't bethesda do this to start with!?"

Good stuff. Give it a try.

Can you park your mount at a stable? That would be so nice, coupled with the whistle.

Doesn't Xodarap's XSO already do this with absolutely identical functionality, including the horse speed changes, etc?
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1324130-rel-xso-tweaker-customizer-extender-awesomizer/

I'm all for finer granularity in mods and I've already considered reimplementing some of the features of XSO as standalone asi files for my own benefit, but I have to admit to feeling quite suspicious about this particular mod.
I try to give the benefit of the doubt to people when it comes to mods, as it's inevitable that multiple people will develop similar ideas; but given the similarity of the functionality here I'd love to compare the source code of this to the relevant parts of XSO.

Maybe it's an entirely separate mod developed from scratch without any of the code from XSO. Maybe I'm wrong. I hope so, at least.

Either way, it's a very nice feature to have in the game.

Probably the most useful for sure. Why they didn't put roads on the vanilla map is beyond me. I guess they thought that dumb clar-annoyance spell was so epic we didn't need to see the roads. But for non magic users and most characters actually, I prefer a map with roads on it.

I prefer http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1522

It makes the horse essential and cowardly so that it will usually run away. The horse will still attack if it gets hit, but only until what is hitting it is dead - then it will run away again.

And essential because hell if I'm buying another horse.

Myself it seems the horse never runs farther than the edge of a cell where it started to run, so I've always had no problem finding him/her.

functinalities I'd want though:
Follow (when on foot).
Stable (leave steed behind for once).
Stolen horses owned over time/skill level/whatever.
Horse saddle bags.
Carriage upgrade.
