Uh...is this PvP centric?

Post » Thu Mar 06, 2014 3:00 pm

So I see this game is designed by Matt Firor and not Bethesda now...uh...is this game going to completely center on PvP and have that as the primary focus of the game like DAoC? Because I pre-ordered it a while back on the presumption that it'd be ES with other people, and not some stupid gankfest like DAoC...

A little bit pissed off since everybody is going around saying on facebook that this is just a DAoC clone and literally that game blew when it came to PvE, it was pretty much PvP or bust. Tried it for a while, went back to EQ where I actually knew what I was doing and where I didn't have to deal with [censored] near consistently like I did in DAoC.

So pretty much; are these rumors true? I looked into it and Matt Firor is indeed designing this game (apparently he designed Warhammer too...ha), but is this going to actually be him trying to make a good game this time? Did he learn his lesson from his past mistakes or are we seeing the degeneration of a fine IP here?

You'll be O.K man.

PVP is in Cyrodiil only - don't like PVP? don't have to go there ever.

It's fun as hell though - I loved it and will probably spend most of my time there. But its only one zone out of a bazzilion or whatever.

I wouldn't listen to much of anything you read on the internet. I'd advise you even take my words and anyone elses you read here with a pinch of salt. As it stands, there seems to be a great deal of PvE content and their secret weapon; adventure zones; which are high level PvE raiding areas, haven't been fully revealed yet.

Don't worry. PvP is entirely optional for the most part. Facebook, YouTube and all those other social plaguelands are breeding grounds for incoherent fanaticism and lies.

It has ample PvP and PvE. You can play however you want just like every other major MMO. There are some end-game dungeons and such in the PvP zone, but the zone is so massive, you may not even engage another player while going to said PvE areas. Imagine it as just another zone where you cannot "unflag" yourself from PvP. There is plenty of content for PvPers and PvEers to enjoy.

Undoubtedly, people will fill this thread saying "PvP or bust," but that is only because not much end game PvE content has been shown in the beta; however, it was confirmed for retail.

P.S. I hope a mod stickies a post about this question

He's definitely made it so the pvp is easier than the pve and also rewards people with tons of loot.

Just exploit that and ride the easy train. You don't even have to put yourself in danger at all - just stand on a castle wall and range attack the little ants below you.

And this is why pvp is made easy - because difficulty would confuse them.

Dude - it's just words - move your lips if that helps.

PvP is only as challenging as your opponents are good. So it totally depends on who you are fighting.

But is this a PvP centric MMO? No not even by a long shot. You don't have any PvP specific gear and you only have one big zone for PvP. If you look at the content they have more PvE content then PvP. However the PvP that does exist in the game is good.

Yeah but it is pretty easy to just rain terror down from a castle wall, even someone who hates pvp could handle that.

Yes but if you meat a disciplined army instead of a "zombie zerg" you wont get many kills from the wall.

The game is PvP centric, everything's balanced for PvP and it's a big part of endgame. I would cancel your preorder if you aren't in DoAC 2.

Thats not rly true, while PvP is defenatly fun to play and made well in this game that doesnt mean game is PvP centric at all, you can get VR10 and best in slot items without ever going iinto PvP, now if you are a completionists that needs to do all the possibile quests, get all the possibile skyshards etc.. than you will actualy need to participate in all aspects of the game and that includes PvP.

But as said countless times before in different threads around this forum, this game has huge amount of PvE content avilable and you are not rly required to do any PvP if you rly dont want to do it.

Excellent news guys, you wouldn't believe how many people I'm seeing cancel pre-orders of this game for this issue alone =\

You know I think the devs made an oopsie by not making this type of info be well known XD I see so many people running for the hills because everybody is like "Lol that game? Are you a PvP'ers? No? WEll gtfo" (for the people hat support it) and the people that don't like PvP they just dislike and talk [censored] about it...

BTW can anybody give me some sources for this PvE end-game? If this stuff is not true I'd really like to shove some facts into these rumors and calm down my raiding buddies and friends so I can stop seeing hate posts (I'm almost exclusively friends with MMO gamers, ha!).

I don't really get the massive hate for PvP but admittedly I've really never enjoyed PvP and I especially disliked DAoC so, me thinking it was a clone, I was just kinda fuming O_o the best RPG franchise EVER mixed with some of the worst MMO mechanics (IMHO, of course) made me just belt out hate around facebook and twitter and such too.

Oh well. Much rehret, such embarass.

Looking forward to more info on this end-game PvE!

But seriously lol this game had me so worried about the PVP end-game being superor to the PvE end-game that I started posting crap about this game =\ so sorry to the devs, I was wrong! And sorry to you guys too, hopefully more people won't believe the bs.

OH WAIT! I have one question- the one big thing floating around seems to be mentions of a special buff PvP'ers get for forever that can't be gotten in PvE or is more difficult to get in PvE or something? I forget what it was called but they called it a skill, is it like a passive? Any info on this? Thsi would seriously hammer home the point if I could say this ain't so.

This.

Why anyone would approach the wall without a clear entry to the castle is beyond me.

Sure if you're a DK you might be able to pull someone down but there's hundreds of players up on that wall lol.

Get the siege weapons to do the talking then rush in :-D

It is so, the game is PvP focused. That's supposed to be the draw and entertainment at cap.

But why? There are no true raids in this game and won't be at launch. Whether they implement anything beyond 4 man dungeons is still up in the air. The12 man dungeons aren't even in game yet, or what're they consider their take on raids. Why buy a game that's completely balanced for PvP if you only want PvE? It's dumb.

Not to mention that some PvE endgame is in the open world PvP places. To suggest you can can get your money's worth only doing PvE in a PvP centric game is silly.

How much can a bunch of haters on a forum hurt a game?

Adventure zones are not in the air, they are coming one of them supposedly at lunch, with more following later on.

lol youd be surprised how much of a problem they canbe but yes the game is focused on PVP yes this is basically DAOC 2 so to speak the lead dev in both games is one and the same and his vision of what he wants to create is still the same

It feels like two different games to me. Firstly, Elder Scrolls have always been sprawling, content-rich single player games. The PvE portion of the game feels a lot like that. I have not seen a single "kill 10 rats" type quest so far. There's a TON of content across all 3 factions, and the guild quest lines and the main quest on top of that. You never have to touch PvP at all.

On the other hand, for those that want to PvP you have another huge arena in which to do so with the setting being the entire game of Oblivion! Sure they're touting the PvP aspect because it is something that keeps a lot of players engaged indefinitely but for PvE players like myself, it can be ignored and there's still a massive PvE game to play :-)
