This shouldn't be happening... Should it?

Good evening, everyone.

I've been having some problems with New Vegas. Last night, I started up New Vegas and was immediately prompted to update. Thinking it was the new patch, I accepted and started to play. I then went to the wiki to view the patch notes, and noted that a few things mentioned in the patch (such as the amount of HP Nuka-Cola is supposed to replenish and Pew-Pew's clip size) were not applied to my game. I have no idea what "patch" I updated with.

Fallout 3 also updates constantly, despite the fact that the last patch was released in 2009. Oblivion updated last night as well, and I know that definitely isn't supposed to happen, as the last patch was released in 2007.

I've done some research and have come to the conclusion that clearing the cache may help, but.. my question is, what's causing this issue? And will clearing the cache and re-applying the updates screw up New Vegas? I've been very, very lucky (knock on wood) when it comes to glitches and bugs; Both Fallout 3 and New Vegas have been relatively glitch and bug free for me, save for a few minor incidents.

Thanks in advance.

Check 5mm ammo after purchasing it (it has to be in your inventory.) If it doesn't show a -DT effect, then you didn't get the patch.

Er, regular 5mm Rounds have no -DT effect. 5mm Armor Piercing has a Target DT - 15.00 effect, though..

The patch adds -DT effect to regular 5mm, and even greater DT bypass for AP.

Okay, so there's more proof I didn't get the patch, then.

Apparently it isn't supposed to be released until later this morning, so maybe thinking I had the newest patch yesterday was wishful thinking. =|

Do you play on Xbox 360 by any chance?

If so, the cache can hold only patches for 3-4 games.

I hope that this simple example will make it clear:

Let's say that I play these games FOR THE FIRST TIME and all of them have already been patched at least once. So
1) I decide to play Borderlands. It downloads a patch for Borderlands and stores it in the cache.
2) Then I decide to play Fallout 3 (not GOTY). It downloads another patch for FO3.
3) Later I decide to play Fallout New Vegas. The patch for FNV is downloaded.
4) The fourth game I decide to play is Oblivion and as it was patched, I have to download one more patch for it.
5) At this moment, my cache stores 4 patches for Borderlands, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Oblivion.
6) I decide to try out Fable 2 and it downloads the 5th patch. What happens now? Borderlands patch is removed from the cahce and replaced by Fable 2's cache.
7) At this moment, my cache stores 4 patches for Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Oblivion and Fable 2.
8) Now I want to play some more of Borderlands and since it's patched but I don't have the patch anymore, it has to be downloaded again. And it means, that patch for Fallout 3 will be deleted from my cache.
9) At this moment, my cache stores 4 patches for Fallout New Vegas, Oblivion, Fable 2 and Borderlands.
10) and so on.

(Yes, I'm on the 360.) Ah, okay. That makes sense. Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't have a negative effect in the long run.

Why does the Xbox 360 put the updates in the cache. There is enough room on the Harddrive to just put them on there, unless you had an older arcade I could see dumping them in the cache but with 250 GB of space just throw them on that..

I have a 60 GB hard drive, not 250. I've only used about 20 GB of space, so yes, there would be plenty of room on my hard drive for the updates.

No idea :/

But some bigger Title Updates are stored on the HDD. For example, Battlefield Bad Company 1 & 2 had their updates stored on the HDD.
Other games use cache.

I hope their changed the way the patches are stored when new Xbox is released because I'm sure MS won't trouble themselves doing it for Xbox 360.

@Quilava - this the so-called 'locked' space on each HDD may contain compatibility updates for original Xbox games. I'm not 100% sure, though; should need to check wikipedia for the exact info.
