Is this Single Player RPG more Elderscroll looking than ESO?

Post » Sat Jan 25, 2014 1:05 pm

You basically said that it didn't matter, and it makes a huge difference. You're comparing a graphical engine for a single-player game to a graphical engine for an MMO. There is literally no comparison to be made.

The dude even says he took inspiration from MULTIPLE games, one of them being Skyrim- so duh, if he's influenced by an ES game (among others) there's going to be similarities.

But of course it's not an Elder Scrolls game- it's not set in the same world, not developed by Bethesda, etc.

Well I can give you examples of MMOs that have a similar realistic art design that are 5-6 years old. For an example Mortals Online. So don't pretend its 1999. But its true that a MMO engion has to be more powerful. However you can pull off a MMO engine that looks as good as any single player game to a console to day.

Mortal online does not have 200 person battles with nearly everyone shining like a spotlight from abilites.

That is true. But Planetside 2 have 200 person battles and more with everyone shining like a spotlight from abilites. That game is only 1 year old though.

Mortal Online doesn't appear to outshine the current footage we've seen of ESO by very much, though it does have a different artistic style. So it's hard to judge. It's also hard to judge because I'd never even heard its name before now, so it's probably not a good measuring tool for a successful MMO.

And you can always make a better looking MMO if you're willing to sacrifice players. ESO will need to be playable on consoles and on lower-end gaming PCs. It will need to not lag on those devices. There is no MMO on the market that can achieve the graphical quality of Crysis (the engine being used in the game you've linked), because, simply put, it would crash any time more than 2 characters were on the screen.

Also no magic in the game apparently. Well I know what I won't be looking out for...

Planetside has SERIOUS issues and is a perfect example of exactly what we are pointing out. Planetside 2 has trouble running smoothly even on good, gaming computers. ESO was made to run on 5 year old decent, gaming computers

I have an i5 with 8GB RAM and a 680 GTX with 2GB RAM and I can run planetside 2 smoothly around 40-45 FPS in large fights sens the beta. I know those that have AMD cards have had problems though and yea the game is not that optimized. However I wonder what you think is a good not even a good gaming computer can run that game... When I can run it on max graphical settings on a medium good gaming computer without problem.

Huh? Of course it looks similar to tes games, it has a medieval style first person open world rpg fantasy thing going for it. How can people not make comparisons to TES? Of course it's not TES, but saying it looks absolutely nothing like a TES game is just being silly.

By that logic, every RPG with medieval vibes is like TES. It's true to an extent, but shouldn't we look for closer similarities?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance isn't fantasy, it's historical fiction. It doesn't have any magical elements. Its protagonist has a predefined gender and backstory. There is no prophecy or divine meddling. It promises to offer meaningful dialogue choices and multiple ways of finishing quests. It has an advanced combat system and incorporates hunger, sleep and injury mechanics.

It has Elder Scrolls elements with its open world, free skill progression, crafting and whatnot, but it's heavily mixed with Mount&Blade, Chivalry, The Witcher and a few other games.

It's not an MMO, it's a single-player RPG, but it does look insanely awesome.

Yeah that does look like Mount & Blade a lot to me and not an MMO. Which is fortunate for me. Between ESO, EQ Next, and The Repopulation I already had enough on my radar. Then last night finding out about Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen being made by the maker of EQ and investing in their Kickstarter I have way too much on my plate as it is. :D

this is how i feel. this game is nothing at all like elder scrolls. the combat is not even close to what we get in that game. however the game looks interesting and i may check in on it from time to time and see how it develops. of course starting in april my time will be very limited as i will have moved into my new world for the foreseeable future

I don't think I'd like this very much. "There are no class restrictions; you can do anything you want to".

Except play as a female character, apparently.

I will give them a star for the bard character. Otherwise you're stealth or tank.

Looking pretty is good, but if the game is missing something that I want, it doesn't matter how pretty the graphics are.

Because in a historical setting like this gender and class barriers can't be waved away. We've discussed it in KS comments. The consensus is that we'd like a female protagonist, but it would require a lot of work to make it realistic. The thing is, this game is already very expensive with just one version of the story, so all the changes required to rewrite it would have to be a stretch goal... And these may be better spent on improving features available to everyone regardless of what kind of character they play. It's up to the devs, they've been notified of this discussion, but I doubt they'll change their minds.

I know. I also understand why they did it. It was just that, when I was reading the information on their page, I read the "do anything you want" line, moved down one line, and found the only character is set. So for me it was "do anything you want, as long as it is this one choice". thing.

They aren't the only ones that did a game that looks interesting, but has restrictions I personally don't like, an example being DA2. Even knowing you can play only three "skill sets" [warrior, rogue, mage] it would have been tolerable for me if you could have picked your class and party. You can't. If you choose your class, you can't pick your party member. If you pick your party member, you can't choose every class. [that is leaving out all the other reasons I strongly dislike DA2] Which gender you choose is irrelevant.

There is a big difference between 200 player battles and 200 players on screen. Planetside 2 has the first, but not the secound.

You can see them all, plus all their vehicles and tracers. There's no culling in PS2, just draw distance, which depends solely on client hardware.
