Crysis doesn't even look like that at the highest settings. You can barely tell it's not a real picture. I'd eat my shoe before I believed that was TES V.

Someone was trolling an image board with it last night, nothing more than a troll.

If a game is both highly anticipated and mysterious, all you have to do is randomly attach its name to anything and people will go nuts with rumors and conspiracy. It's not unusual for people fabricate such things just to mess with others.

This could be a screencap of Duke Nukem Forever, for all we know.

Yes yes, its not TES V.

Not to say I wouldn't be extremely pleased if TES V looked like that.

I wish. That's beautiful.

Although a subtitle of "Shadows of SFX" is pretty damn stupid.

Can anyone tell if that's actually a render or a real picture with some filter thrown over it?

I wouldn't: That would mean that there would be NO way in heck that anyone could run that.

I've always been convinced it's a photo with HDR editing. If this had been generated by a program, then it would have received critical acclaim for its photorealism. No program has been able to create something so life-like yet, so there's no way this image could possibly be the product of one and still remain so elusive and unexplainable.

I can't even believe someone asked that question.
Of coarse that's not TES:V. Jesus. That looks like a real picture that's been altered to make it "look" like it's not a real picture, but just barely.
I would hate if TES:V looked like that. Most people wouldn't be able to run it, and current consoles DEFINITELY wouldn't be able to handle that. Well, maybe, but a 30 second loading screen every 10 feet.
Also, if a video game looked like that, it would seriously come extremely close to photorealism and the uncanny valley, no thank you. That'd be wayyyy to realistic if there as combat involved. I'd feel bad shooting someone in the throat with a bow and arrow if it looked that real. I honestly don't think I could play it.

I agree with the above. Tbh, Oblivion's graphics are fine enough. What TESV needs is a good sense of art direction and concept to make the game really look amazing and unique.

But Betrayer is correct. There is little question that the picture wouldn't be TES V. In fact, there is no question it wouldn't be any game at all, because the technology to produce a picture like that would surely be known by a large amount of the gaming public if it could produce graphics like that. I mean, the hardware doesn't even exist yet to create graphics like that for video games, and probably not even renders.

Its just a process of anolyzing and assessing what is and isn't possible.

Anyways, I know I for sure would hate having graphics like that, and I wouldn't just go out and buy the hardware. Do you realise how much it would cost to buy a computer that can run that, but the whole size of Morrowind/Oblivion? It's stupidly hard to run.

I actually think this is rendered. It's not impossible. It would obviously take some time, but this actually isn't a large scene. And there probably is no animation. If you look at the shadow of the mountain on the left, it doesn't really look too realistic.

EDIT: Also, the reflections on the water are too perfect to be an actual image, in my opinion.
(Then again, I live in england, the water here is sampled from the bog of eternal stench)
