Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has admitted to Videogamer it’s transitioning into a fully free-to-play company from packaged games.

I'm disappointed..

Maybe sales of Crysis 3 will change something.. and we will see Crysis 4 on Cryengine 4?

Who knows..Future of the series depends on us..

I'm sure they'll keep Crysis as what it is now. I hope they do :)

Depending on how Crysis 3 sells, we may or may not see a new studio take on the series. Which could bomb, but on the other hand, it could be another CoD 4.

http://www.computerbase.de/news/2012-06/crytek-entwickelt-kuenftig-free-to-play-spiele/

Translated by me into English:
At the same time Yerli says that Crytek is still going to release outstanding AAA-Titles, which will be funded with the needed amount of money between 10 and 30 million US-Dollar. With this they are trying to get mainstream fame at the same time as they try to make sure they get a solid user base.

No..

"Despite the transition, Yerli said it was aiming to make F2P titles on a AAA basis.

“As is evident in Warface, our approach is to ensure the best quality, console game quality,” he said. “That implies budgets of between $10m to $30m – so no compromise there – but at the price-point of $0 entry"

"Yerli added that he wants Crytek's games to stand out from the current crop of F2P titles. All future projects will aim for triple-A production standards, with development budgets to match."

it's natural so see Crytek becoming a F2P title developer as F2P titles are getting popular

Valve have TF2 and DOTA2 as F2P

there are also other successful F2P games like Tribes ascend, LoL, SMNC and now Warface

Crytek has always have a problem, they develop really great games, but they are under appreciated.

by making them F2P, people lose nothing trying them out, and if they like it and your game is good, you'll receive income from game shops

Franchises, like Call of Duty, don't really need to be F2P, because of their large audience, which allows it to sell millions even if the game is good or not

otherwise the next Crysis game, Crysis 4, would be F2P, and would be heavily based on MP and Co-op, like warface

in that way they can keep people playing for longer giving them updates, and in return, being F2P they'll get more audience which buys things and give them profit, also piracy would be virtually eliminated

though having 2 F2P Shooter games is not a choice, so Crysis would be to be a SP title, which doesn't work good with F2P system or Cash shops, so it might be the end of Crysis if it doesn't exceed the expected sales

If crysis 3 surpasses Crytek expectations by a large margin, say 4 Million sales on PC, 3.5 million on xbox and 3 on PS3 AT LEAST. then it's probably we'll see another Retail priced Crysis, and they would keep doing a Retail priced Crysis games since now they will provide a high amount of sales and profit to crytek, and they would keep their F2P games like Warface, and they Retail Games like Crysis at the same time

As long as Crysis 3 makes good sales the investors will be back. The only thing Cevat really confirmed is that this is the last Crysis with Prophet. This is not the end of Crysis, it's Crytek's baby and they wouldn't be where they are without this franchise. Also the Free2Play games haven't taken off at all here in the States, like they have in Asia, I would think that Crytek taking the approach of only F2P games would kill their own business and shoot themselves in the foot. I also remember a rumor a while back that Crysis 3 was going to be "3D only" well looks like that didn't happen. Thankfully it didn't, could you imagine the public outrage if it only ran on a 3D television?

Not gonna happen. Look at Crysis 2 sales:

X360: 1.10m
PS3: 0.98m
PC: 0.55m

Despite the fact Crysis started life as a PC exclusive, consoles are now making up the majority of sales.

The guy who was interviewed in the Gamespot gameplay video said that there is a chance the series will continue. Though he did say, that the story about the Ceph will definitely be wrapped up in Crysis 3.

Guys guys guys, none of this can happen until Crytek ends its contract with EA, which is at least three years I think, even then the crysis series is very dear to their heart, it is what made them. I wouldnt worry myself too much

PC sold at least 1 milion copies. 0.55m is the number of DVD copies sold, while there are much more digital copies sold...
Also, if Crytek doesn't make the same mistakes they made with Crysis 2, Crysis 3 will probably sell great!

I really hope it is a trilogy and that the game narrative is given a proper ending to satisy we who have played all the games since Crysis. I really hate it when publishers milk stories because they are successful and then churn out endless sequels. Often the story progression becomes lost in the chase to squeeze every last drop of revenue out of the franchise - until the player base gets bored of the whole concept and the creators just write some half-*ssed ending to kill off the game.

I have been encouraged by the recent news about Crytek moving away from the consoles and publishing houses (i.e. E f*ckin' A). Gives me hope that I will be able to play Crysis 3 without having to have my PC held to ransom by that Origin bullsh*t. I still rate Crysis as one of my favourite games so I will be playing/paying for Crysis 3 - no Origin means I will be able to stay fully legit and even play the MP should the desire take me ;D

The E3 footage looks good, not revolutionary maybe - but a decent progression from Crysis 2. The destroyed New York jungle is an awesome environment.

...derp, I'm an idiot.

Extrapolating from the figures in [url=http://www.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=28070]this post[url], PC has sales of at least 0.75 m, assuming the ratio of PC:X360 sales is unchanged. With the various uncertainties taken into account, it's could be a lot higher.

In the comics that were supposed to bridge the gap between crysis 1 and 2, there was something about time travel and a 18 or 19 hour difference. Because of that I think there is still a possibility that they can go back and save Nomad and Helena. Again, this is the last Crysis with Prophet, not the last of Crysis. Just the same as Mass Effect, there is going to be more Mass Effects but they wont have Commander Shepherd.

Crytek after release Homefront 2, Crysis 3, Ryse ...

will be made only F2P games .. all new projects, the technology will be made for F2P ..

Thats mean multiplayer and Co-OP only .. Crytek will be Free-to-Play company .. what did you do not understand from this?

no more disc version of the games by Crytek ..

No more games with a budget more than 30 millions ..

Although there is little known about this right now .. soon we will hear more about what will do Crytek in the future

Like some of you have been saying, if C3 exceeds sale expectations, this may not be the last crysis (with or without Prophet). But it may be the last sequel. If C3 does exceed sale expectations, Crytek may go the prequel route with the series or depending on the ending we may see a cliffhanger at the end of C3 where crytek can leave as it or build upon. Unless Prophet (Alcatraz) somehow kills off all ceph on earth, there could easily be a sequel where we play as another nanosoldier in another Nanodome in another city/country.
As long as C3 exceeds sale expectations there are a lot of ways Crytek could continue the series.
