This Vault cannot fail

Post » Mon Mar 01, 2010 6:32 am

Okay, so say there was a Vault somewhere, just before the War, you are given some miraculous vision into the future for a second or two, you know

A. This Vault will never ever fail.
B. The Great War is unavoidable.

My question is, if Vault Tec gave you free admission to this Vault, would you take up a place in this Vault?

Also, don't argue about some possible secret experiment, because the way the thought is set up, would you live your day to day life for the rest of your life in a Vault for the rest of your life?

Me personally, if life in an 'typical' Vault (The image Vault Tec tried to produce to the masses) is anything like the one in Vault 101 during the dream sequence/introduction, I wouldnt mind it, Being safe and cozy in a Vault, doing some sort of job and having that lovely music on the speakers. Personally, I'd enjoy a life like that.

Would you?

That's how I feel. I mean, sure it might be nice to imagine carving out your own empire or taking over a fancy hotel or pillaging, but I'll choose a safe life with a job under a Vault with a police force over the anarchy and radiation of the bombs.

wouldn't it get crowded or run out of food? Not to mention having to wear the same clothes, or use the same stuff, and what if I wanted to build a model kit? We'd just have to pour white spirit over the same Airfix Spitfire and repaint it for all eternity, or at least when we ran out of paint.

Exactly. I'd rather die an old man safe and comfy, not young and vomitting with my skin falling off and all those other radiation sickness things, the things I've read are just horrifying.

@Fattoler- Well, All of the 'commercial' Vaults were supposed to open after a set amount of time or when they recieved an all clear signal.

The fact the Vault does not open for at least a life time say 60 years or more. That in and of itself would be an experiment, would it not? Vaults the 17 that were meant to work as normal opened with in 10 years or so complete with Gecks. So there sould be 16 other Vault Cities out there. Anyways I would want to be in on of the 17 meant to work right. Not one that will never open in my life time. SO I vote no.

Styles, wasn't Vault 3 one of those Vaults? It had no experiment, and it opened without a GECK

Maybe they did not get a Geck by mistake. Or their's was damaged or they sold it could not figure out how it worked. People voted not to use it and just stay safe in the vault. Fiends killed them and sold it for drugs.

So I guess that means there could be 15 other vault cities out there.

In all reality I would much prefer the safety of the vault over the hells of the wastes. Vault 101 looked quite comfy in relation to the CW.

Besides Vaults have all the amenities of your modern day home! and they're attractive! (This message brought to you by Vault-Tec)

Not enough information...

Am I allowed to bring my entire family? If it's admission for just me, then I'd rather be vaporized clutching my baby for our skeletons to be found later in some kind of depressing treasure hunt by scavengers :P

Otherwise...weekly karaoke nights will be organized by me and take place in the cafeteria every Friday from 9 PM until 2 AM~~ :D

The vaults that were truly meant to save their residents usually opened up around 10 or 50 years after the bombs dropped, BTW.

Most likely I would say yes, but that's not to say I wouldn't off myself if I became miserable due to the war and just being in the vault.

Why would I want to live my life underground when I could be raiding and starting my own tribes on the surface?

Or from dying quite horrifically slowly and painful from radiation sickness.... just saying.

If I'd be somewhere far away from the targets, I'd be fine. Alternatively, I would become a ghoul.

But if the Vault is was to work normally I should come with a Geck. So you could leave the Vault, use the Geck and have a nice radiation free area around the Vault in which to build a town.

@Skirt- You could bring your family Obviously

@Styles- I never said it WOULDN'T open, I just said would you be willing to live in it the rest of your life, I mean, if your Vault opened 50 years later, chances are we might not have lived to see it. I just meant would you be willing to live the rest of your life in assured safety, or to take a chance with the bombs and violence outside.

How am I supposed to know? Vault Tec are a bunch of bastards ;)

I would take to the Vault, for sure. But, if I were single, I'm not really sure I would. Stuck in a hole with a bunch of strangers I will be forced to try and like, or at least, survive with? I'd rather take my chances with the bombs...

I might be able to stay in a Vault for 10 to 20 years before going nuts but not 50 years. I would be the one bugging the overseer to open it.
