This is what Sony told me what to do.

I am sorry to hear that your PlayStation?3 computer entertainment system will freeze while playing your game Fallout New Vegas. I can understand that you must be frustrated.

The symptoms you have provided leads me to believe that their is some corrupt data on your PlayStation?3 computer entertainment system. I recommend that you remove any corrupt data that may be a cause of this issue I would suggest that you follow the troubleshooting steps I have provided below to resolve this situation you have encountered.

? Please remove any discs from your PS3?

? Delete Game Data
- Go to the Game icon
- Game Data Utility
- Locate title
- Press triangle
- Delete
* Please Note: This process does NOT delete any saved game data.

? Please follow the directions below to activate Safe Mode:

- Start with your system in standby mode (the light on the system should be red).

- Touch and hold the power button for three beeps. The first beep is when you first touch the power button. Continue to hold the power button until you hear the third beep. Your power light should now be red.

- Repeat the same process. The last beep will end up being a quick double beep. Release the power button after the quick double beep.

- If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button." Follow the instructions on the screen.

? Restore File System (option 3)
Restore File System - Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered. This option may also be successful in fixing issues where the system freezes in relation to the XMB?, loading game or downloaded content, installing game or firmware data, etc.

? Disable the Media Sever Connection
Disabling the Media Sever Connection prevents the interference from other wireless devices while your PlayStation?3 computer entertainment system is communicating with your wireless access point. From the XMB?, go to:
- Settings
- Network Settings
- Press the X button
- Select Media Server Connection
- Press the X button
- Select "Disable"
- Press the X button

Next, we require ports to be opened so that your firewall will allow online gaming. Please contact your router manufacturer and request the following ports I have provided below to be opened.

? TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and 10070 - 10080
? UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, and 10070

? Re-download Game

If the troubleshooting steps do not resolve this situation please check out the forums as there maybe others who have experienced this same type of situation and have a resolution. To go to the forums please visit http://community.us.playstation.com.

I know that the troubleshooting steps I have provided will resolve the situation with your PS3? freezing while playing Fallout New Vegas, as they have worked for other consumers in the past. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you. Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Cheryl T.

I'm testing the file restore as we speak, I'll update after it has finished.

When I opened the option it scanned and shown that my HD IS corrupted.

I had expected so because earlier whilst deleting save games I came across corrupted data.

More momentarily...

Tested in the areas I'm having trouble with.

It's working okay... Definitely better than before.

Mine were Freeside, The Ranger Outpost (The one by Long 13, name escapes me at the moment) and The Atomic Wrangler.

I went to each place and they still run a little slow, but no freezes.

At least it's playable.

(Note: Posting this after 5 minutes or so of play, might change, might not)

I followed all the instructions exactly. It did not work. I experienced the same freezes as before. I was at Gun Runners, traded-in some items for sale, checked-out the weapons, etc, bought some items. Confirmed the sale (square) went to exit the sale screen (circle) BAM, frozen. Same as before. This is beyond frustrasting. Before I added the DLC I could play for hours with only very minor slow-downs very sporadically. Now the game is entirely unplayable. I can play Fallout 3 (or any other game for that matter) for hours still with no problems. I was able to play all the way through Honest Hearts DLC (right after I purchased it) with only a few issues. All my problems began as soon as I returned through the northern passage into the Mojave. Bethesda or Obsidian or whoever needs to find the issue and relaease a fix.

Holy crap, if I had wanted to put up with all that nonsense to play a game I'd just play it on PC. At least then modding would be an option (don't know how well mods work with Steam, though).

I guess if we avoid using any kind of DLC weapon, we'll meet no problem. I don't really care about the challenges, as long as my game works.

This is what I had to do to play FONV properly, I switched to PC shortly after the GRA DLC release. Mods work perfectly with the Steam version of NV and the GECK is my best friend now. I was able to finally beat the game and all the DLC. Still I wish they fixed the PS3 version.

Apparently people on PC are experiencing problems of their own. I'm not a tech wiz, that's why I have a Mac. As a result, I couldn't play those games on pc even if I was guranteed no complicated tech errors.
