Also,I just love how most people just don't care about the railroad.

He control internal affairs, so yes he can put the sole survivor in charge, and refusing him that is stepping on his toes.

But he cannot force biological research from stopping to kidnap people for research which are meant to be done on the surface.

He cannot stop the BRS from infiltrating the surface using kidnapping and torture.

The best he would be able to do would be to balance the ressources in favor of less agressive divisions like the Facilities division.

"You'll lead the Insitute in setting policy, settling disputes and the like."

There's your quote, emphasis is mine. At the part I mentioned. Where you said the opposite.

The Director sets Institute policy.

If he can force members of the Institute to carry on with projects that they're opposed to doing, what makes you think he can't stop them from doing projects he's opposed to them doing, or placing restrictions on how they can be carried out?

I tried but I got fed up with them and the reckless attitude they have. It really is Desdemona who got to me the most, she really knows how to ride on our coat tails. Mostly it is the fact they are a rag tag organization on the verge of being wiped out before we arrive and with just a few quests they are ready to fight the Institute and BoS? Yeah I don't think so but if they had made them a team up option with say the minutemen I could have been down for that.

I haven't sided with anyone yet, though I consider myself a "Minuteman" only because this is the only faction which doesn't go out and have me kill the others.

Originally, I had no intention of spoiling the endings for myself. I'd pick one based on who I liked, but after reading this piss-poor endings to all the factions, I've decided to hold off "completing" my game.

As I play, I try to take into consideration how my character would react. So far, she's not happy with the Railroad, whose idiotic sense of justice turns synths into killers because they'll wipe memories, but refuse to set code which prevents them from turning into Raiders. Screw the free will diatribe. If the RR's goal is to save synths, then allowing them to become Raiders is a guaranteed death sentence. Might as well put them down if they're going to do this stupid crap. They're out, for sure.

Shaun hasn't said a thing about how he intends to "save mankind", which I can only assume will occur after I've done a few quests. Right now, I'm simply tracking down a few rogue synths before the RR gets to them first. While I'm doing this...

... I decided to meet with the BoS. Right off the bat, I'm not too happy these idiots think I've "enlisted". Barking commands at the one person who saved their sorry butts a few times out in the Commonwealth isn't a nice thing to do. I shrug it off, only because I want to hear their position.

While it's all good they want to rid the Commonwealth of enemies, something about the way they go about it rubs me the wrong way. They say they want to help, so why is it the first order out of their mouths is to kill everything? Maxson wants me to board a vertibird to wipe out an island of mutants. Can't get myself to board the plane just yet, but eventually will do so given not too many mutants have been friendly.

And there's the rub. Most mutants simply lead a life by a hierarchy of mayhem, but they seem intelligent enough that if their current boss wasn't some bloodthirsty renegade, the remaining could actually be persuaded to help rid the Commonwealth of everything else.

Alas, I sit here with a conundrum as the only way to "finish" the game is to guarantee one or more of the factions must go away.

A situation I find very poorly executed as far as the game's story goes. It's FONV all over again, without the powerpoint presentation at the end.
