Thoughts on Adding Dismemberment and "Dragonslayer"

Post » Sun Oct 02, 2011 8:33 pm

I was wondering what fans and Bethesda Studios thought about adding a sword similar to the one seen in the Anime/Manga, Berserk. I'm a big fan of unrealistically huge bladed swords, and "The Dragonslayer" Gatts uses in Berserk, struck me as something that I thought would be fun to use on actual Dragons :P. I also know its kinda not the same tone The Elder scrollls has been going for, since weapons of the sort have been non-existent to my knowledge, in previous games. Though it'd be interesting what people think. Here is two pics of the sword -

Also one thing that sold me on Fallout 3 and NV, was the fact that they had dismemberment, I was wondering if this is something carrying over to Skyrim, or if theres any thoughts on that as well.

As a side note, I really enjoyed the mature and dark feeling that Oblivion had, like how when u went into a tomb you'd see bodies that had been strung up or half eaten, or like the mission where u kill those villagers after thinking they were creatures, kinda toying with the players mind and sense of good/evil. I got that same feeling when watching/reading Berserk, so it kinda led me to this whole idea.

Either way, like or hate the idea, or got an idea of ur own to add, feel free to post it up.

Sorry but i can`t stand the whole "Massive bladed" JRPG style look. It nearly put me off getting Divine Divinty: DKS but thankfully i stuck with that game. I much prefer the western medieval style of weaponry, armour etc.
I doubt you will find that kind of weapon appearance in Skyrim as TES games have never gone for that kind of visual style. Not to say someone won`t mod in weapons of the type you prefer of course.

You will probably love the new Kingdom of Amalur game when that comes out, as it is very much WOW looking with huge over exaggerated blades etc.

There is no dismemberment in Skyrim. You will be able to perform the odd decapitation if you pick the perk in 1h or 2h, but no limb loss.

dismemberment is in :celebration: there's a perk gives you 10% more chance for dismemberment :) as for the sword, obviously not, this game isn't about all that big sworded little anime girl thing :twirl:

I hate those giant swords you see in manga :/
I'm open to relatively large battle axes tho :)

that is a pretty big sword! I would see no problem with something like that, makes me wonder if we will be able to wield a giants club or similar large weapon?
dismemberment is in to a degree but it is only decapitation and can only be done by choosing a particular perk with % chance of decapitation,if any other kind of dismemberment is in we have not been told about it yet.
I imagine if you liked Oblivion's darkness then Skyrim will definitely fill that like,as it seems to have an even darker tone overall.
