I'm not too concerned with that, also considering the fact that you can have 16 characters. They might also raise it if they choose to come out with DLC like Bioshock 2

It is only 20...the devs have also said that after you complete each factions campaign, you still won't hit the lvl cap, and they said if you do sort of a "speed run" through both campaigns, it will take around 10 hrs.

So although it's "only" 20, it's gonna take over 10 hrs. to hit it.

you would really want it to take really long? In games like BC2, it's not so bad that it takes long, because you unlock everything in a fair amount of time - most of the leveling up is just trying to hit max level with no unlocks. But in Brink, unlocking everything will include abilites at max lvl (or close to it) Would you really want to play for 50-100hrss (or more) to get that cool ability you want?

One of the things I like about Halo: Reach (Even though rank means nothing more than how long you've played the game, or how much you play Grifball now.) is that there are a LOT of ranks, and they take a long time to get all the way through them.

When you leveled up their proficiency and spec'd Brink for Rocket Launchers, they actually were pretty good. It helped to have a good mod and Rocket Launcher also. I have a Launcher and Melee spec'd Brick....and a shotgun/healer Roland, a revolver Mordecai, an elemental Lilith....

My main problem with them was it was like you had to design your character specifically around them to get them to be effective, even with Brick, which of course limits your options as far as points distribution. I think they intended them to be more geared for splash damage on multiple enemies at once rather than something that just blew the crap out of everything. Which is ok; I wouldn't want them to be too out of balance with the rest of the weapons; but still it makes no sense that it's taking me longer to take down two guys who are backed into a corner with a rocket launcher than if I just pulled out a revolver and line up a couple good shots. Realism isn't everything, but it should be something.

But without purpose, it's just eye candy.

Friend 1: Look I hit rank (insert number)!
Friend 2: Ok....your point?

I'm concerned with balanced gameplay then how long it takes to max out my guy - we're playing an FPS, not an MMO or RPG.

After u reach level 20 and unlock all the abilities, u should still be able to continue lvling like in BC2. Gaining lvls is better than gaining nothing.

I used to think that the Launchers svcked as well - but now that I leveled them up, they are beast. I can take out groups of guys quick. Between my fire and acid helix launchers and my Redemption, body parts are flying frequently.

On the same note, about your "realism should be something" comment, wouldn't rocket launchers essentially be the strongest weapon in the game, and pistols be garbage?

And guess what? Some people like "Eye Candy".

Well, if you need achievements to stroke your e peen, that's all you. I prefer there to actually be a point to leveling up (like gaining access to new abilities) and in the competitive gameplay of Brink, I would prefer said abilities to become available to me fairly quickly.

Right. Levels in FPS seem to only be important to skill points. And to bring up Borderlands again, if you got all the DLC and the patch that brought you to 69, it basically gave you the ability to not have to think too long or hard about how to set your guys up strategically. You could pretty much get all the good abilities in each tree, and it really took a lot of the individuality out of the characters, not to mention made them more than slightly OP.

I thought the same thing, especially with the mods you could get, which boosted skills even further, and even added effects to characters (like ammo and health regen) tat took the place of skills, so you didn't even have to put points in them.

Raising the lvl cap too much takes away the strategy and individuality among players. Right now in Brink, the lvl cap is 20, and there are 50 skills total. I think being able to choose 20 out of 50 skills is a good balance - maybe raise it to 25.

It's funny how people obsess over ranks. It becomes even funnier when they start to complain that they play against people with higher ranks etc. Even though this won't be the case in Brink.

I'm glad that there are 20 levels. Not too many and it allows us to make specific characters, not all around uber Own machines. The playing field will be evened out this way.

Agreed if everyone could do everything then the game wouldn't be half as fun.

So all you people who use the excuse that they have better guns or are higher ranked be quiet. This game will be pure skill and wit based in order to win. Best Game EVER!!! :foodndrink:

Even on level 20 you are unable to unlock all abilites simultaneously.
There is a good reason to go through those 20 levels multiple times, to have different avatars available for different playstyles.

Also with "only" 20 levels it's easier to create balanced brackets(?) to sort people into (in the game it will be four, iirc. 1-4, 5-9, 10-14, 15-20)

Im concerned that it would be too easy to reach max level, since its only lvl 20.
Im also concerned that the grenade launchers would be too rigged, because it looked rigged in the video.

who actually said it was lvl 20?

If you have played MW2 and you look at how long somebody has played it might say 3 hours and the person is only 0 prestige lvl...around 40
