Thoughts:CoDBO vs Crysis 2

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 8:42 am

Tried black ops this weekend thanks to steam, and i really have to say, Crysis 2 is better in all aspects. I noticed in CoD, the player movement is jerky looking, in crysis 2 it is nice and fluid looking. It seems that the cryengine just has better mechanics, than the idtech. One thing i do like about Blops is the ability to lean during online play, but to be honest i don't think C2 would benefit much from it, since it is a faster paced game.

The map design is better in Crysis 2 as well, and it seems like i stay alive longer after spawning. Which brings me to the balancing of both games. I think c2 is also balanced better with the way the killstreaks are used. Blops, seems like the ultimate goal is camping for enough kills to get a chopper gunner called in, whereas in c2 the ceph gunship is strong, but not as over powered as the top tier kill streak awards in Blops. This may make it less fun for kill farmers, and i think that's a plus.

The only thing blops does have going for it, is the number of people playing, but then I guess the c2 community might be better off for not being overly large.

Black Ops Advantages:

- Player base. Among Top 5 Played games on Steam daily. I've seen the online players hit over 100,000.
- Zombies. 4-player zombies Co-Op is fun. Troll. Fame. Whatever. You know it's fun. Ass-raping on Kino and Five never gets boring.
- Better singleplayer storyline. But gameplay is more like a long chain of cutscenes in which your player does something badass (it svcks). Better vehicle levels though.
- Mod tools coming out this week for Black Ops. I can haz custom maps and mods here before in Crysis 2.

Crysis 2 Advantages -

- Optimization. Crysis 2 on High runs better than Black Ops on max, but looks 10X better.
- Graphics. Enough said. You can't really compare one of the best looking games ever to a game that runs at 60 FPS on the XBOX 360.
- Map design. I really didn't like Black Ops multiplayer. Demolition and TDM on Nuketown are quite fun, bu all the other maps svck. On the other hand a lot of Crysis 2 maps are fun (Skyline, City Hall, Terminal, Lighthouse)
- Single player storyline is okay at best. but gameplay is intense, action packed, and a lot of fun. It's a lot more replayable too.

Black Ops runs at 60fps because it looks like crap and like most console games of this type are upscaled from about 1280. Source engine looks better than Black Ops.

...What's your point.

Black Ops runs at 3 FPS on PC.

And it's 1024x600 on 360 and 960x544 on PS3 for Black Ops.

i can't comment on the single player game, but c2's was alright, but i personally liked the depth of the first game more.

Zombies never gets boring? You are in the minority on that opinion. When it comes to multiplayer gameplay Crysis 2 tops it by a long shot. Unfortunately the playerbase is small due to the grip CoD has on a lot of FPS gamers. Hopefully they will release they keep buying the same game every year soon.

Crysis 2 solves some of Black Ops problems..

1. BO (like every other CoD) rewards campers. Crysis 2 helped tone this down with improved survivability, tools to locate players, dog tag streak system and weaker killstreaks.

2. Following on from point 1, the killstreaks are too strong. Get a 9 or so streak in Black Ops and you are rewarded with a streak that will net you MASSES of kills with little to no effort. Black Ops improved the situation by disallowing streak kills to count towards other streaks but the issue still remains.

3. All the weapons are pretty much the same. Thats because a lot of weapons literally have the exact same stats (damage, rate of fire, reload, recoil, etc, etc).

In my opinion Black Ops only strong point over Crysis 2 for multiplayer is better game modes when it comes to gameplay. Outside of gameplay its the massive playerbase.

I kind of secretly hope the cod elite service is the death blow to that franchise, but knowing how some people eat up anything cod i doubt it.

Yeah I was hoping Activision would redeem themselves with Modern Warfare 3, but apparently not. In fact, I really think MW3 will be the death of the series. Most of my friends are console gamers and they are saying that they probably won't get MW3, because it looks "the same as MW2" .

Suprisingly many of them have been talking about Battlefield 3.

Bf3 i think has the potential to be awesome, but knowing EA they'll try to milk it for all the dlc bucks they can.

One of the many reasons I didnot buy anymore CoD games. I only brought MW1 and Black Ops looks the same graphics wise.

Point is, CoD games are for consoles and people who don't care that they are being sold the same sh*t.

The difference is..MW1 was an awesome game. I would give it a 9.5/10. Lost the .5 for graphics. Black Ops...7.5.

Alteast you get free map packs, unlike the shocking MW. DICE will offer the old remade maps for free.

Black Ops was released on November 9 2010, 7 months and 24 days has passed since it's release, so they got Mod tools after almost 8 months

Crysis 2 was released on March 22 2011, we are 2 months and 13 days from it's release

Our next release will be the Crysis 2 Editor, this is for those of you who want to create content for Crysis 2. In August 2011, we will launch our Free CryENGINE SDK for all of you who want to create totally new content on CryENGINE 3.

as Cevat said, CryENGINE 3 SDK will be released on August 2011

Let's assume it's August 31, which is 5 months and 9 days after Crysis 2's Release

Also the Crysis 2 editor should be supposed to arrive between that dates, so we'll get modding earlier

TL;DR

Black ops Got mod tools 7 months and 24 days after it's release

Crysis 2 Got mod tools 5 months and 9 days after it's release (or even earlier)

so relative to their release time, Black ops didn't receive modding earlier than Crysis 2

I noticed how jerky Black Ops is also. I run it at 100FPS with 4xAA and it stil jerks about.. poor show.

C2 is similar to Black ops in gameplay, but ultimately more fun because of the extra features of the nanosuit, and the increased health.. unfortunately just like Black Ops, the novelty tends to wear thin pretty quickly unless you're running in a squad.

Alot of people in the rest of the gaming world other than us likes Black Ops better because there is more content, less bugs, and easier to get kills. The number 1 fun factor in FPS is getting kills, you think CoD killstreaks are too strong? Well that's what makes the game fun. Crysis 2 counter that with hacks though, so it's about square.

If you think CoD games are terrible, keep in mind Crysis 2 is supposed to be a clone in some way.

-less run n gun spray n pray
-bigger maps so less dying 2 seconds after respawn
-balanced weapons (famas/AUG are you kidding me?)
-no overpowered killstreaks (dogs,choppa gunner,B-52)
-nanosuits i;ve played other COD games all COD games these games are the same game nanosuit really mixes things up

Exactly what I'm saying, COD multiplayer fanatics are brainless dikes who can point and shoot and get horny.

Crysis 2 has atleast 1% brain usage.

Agreed with OP. Crysis 2 is a game to be reckoned with even as is in dx9. Black ops is a good and fun game, but crysis 2 just kicked it's ass.

Not in my opinion. Crysis 2 is just Call of Duty meets Halo. It took the health pools and weapon damage from Call of Duty along with kill steaks(what the frack?!), with the mindless closed in single player campaign from Halo with some semblance of story and very little exploration outside of a few pieces of paper.

yes because any SCi-fi shooter is automatically a halo clone
