Thoughts on no destination pointer

I am a newby to Morrowind. I have played Oblivion and (now) Skyrim many times and love them. Want to start Morrowind because of all the positive comments. My question is:

Do you find it frustrating that there is no quest destination pointer? (Edit: Map Marker) Looking at some of the walkthroughs, it appears that one must almost wander all over the

countryside, or wander up and down every staircase and cross every street in a town to find your destination.

So, I am wondering if I have the patience for this game.

General thoughts on pros and cons of the pointer? All comments thoughtfully considered.

I prefer it that way. When I play Oblivion and Skyrim I use mods to turn off compass markers and map markers (I have mostly stopped looking at in-game maps anyway).

I love to explore, and I love to get lost. So I have never minded wandering around in Morrowind. The way I see it, getting lost is part of the "Morrowind experience." ;)

I dislike quest pointers, in almost any game.
They annoy me a lot and sometimes ruin exploration for me. (although I do see the reason behind them)

A good Journal system is my preferred method of tracking objectives, and I really like the one Morrowind has. The Journal does have a Search function, and Quest sorting, so be sure to check that if you lose track of a few things.
(IMO, Skyrim has a terrible Journal because the pointers do all the work instead.)

Morrowind is a lot slower than the newer games in all aspects. Which I think helps immersion, as you honestly have to follow instructions/directions in order to achieve your goal.

Think of it as the game doing two things...

- Opening up opportunities for you to get lost or wander along new paths (which could lead to finding great loot, secrets or challenges)
- Asking you to pay attention to the world around you, adding immersion.

You might need to remind yourself to get into a slower paced mindset. And mix it up a bit. Do a quest, than just go loot a dungeon and get into some combat. Than go back to quests.
