Thoughts on E3 Gameplay

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:22 pm

As most of you can see, the environment looked much more open. Not as much as C1, but much more than the environment in C2. The things that stood out to me were: it seemed the SCAR (which is now I believe a Mk.2) had much more recoil... so perhaps we can expect that with most guns. Also just a side note I really like the reload animation. The air stomp (unless it was just a module) may be available without the module. The explosive arrow looks very intimidating, perhaps too much...I have hopes the bow will be balanced though. Prophet SPEAKS...thank god. The silent protagonist is fitting for a lot of franchises but the Crysis franchise is not a good one to do it in. The melee seemed much more effective as well. All in all I don't think there's too much to worry about at this point, leave your thoughts below.

Edit: Since then some big news has came in....destructible environments. I believe Rasmus even said that you can't stay in the same area without the cover being stripped away due to heavy fire. You could see in the demo where the environment (well tree trunks) were being destroyed. The suit modules will have (correct me if I'm wrong) "quickswitches". These are just different perks that go into quickslots. One of the Crytek people (sorry don't know his name/occupation) that they didn't have enough community support for C2 and they plan on changing that with C3. Props for being humble. The AI is being worked on much more.

It pretty much confirmed my worries that it's a Crysis 2 rehash with new maps and a few gimmicks.

Care to explain what you found new and innovative in the footage?

You have seen them play through entirely new and better maps, the openness of Crysis 1, and the style of Crysis 2. You seem to think that they need to somehow make it something that's completely different than either games.

Well, I'm sorry, but then that is not Crysis.

Which is what I said, it's Crysis 2 with new maps and a few gimmicks like the bow. Thanks for agreeing with me.

As for the openness well, they said Crysis 2 would be open and it very well wasn't. I believe they used the word "action bubbles" to describe a linear corridor.

Crysis > Crysis 2 = Crysis 2.5

Really just think for a second, I asked you what you found new and innovative and you literally only came up with maps which to be fair isn't innovation at all. Who is the deluded one here?

*facepalm*
New things in Crysis 2: The bow. If you want me to explain everything about it then you weren't paying attention.
Hacking turrets, doors, and other machinery.
New enemies.
Ceph weaponry.
Newer and better HUD.

Anything other new gameplay mechanics could be added in the one year of development left.

The bow is just a gimmick. New enemies and weapons do not change multiplayer gameplay, neither does the HUD which quite frankly is a copy and paste job for the most part.

The hacking is the only gameplay related thing you've mentioned and the odds of it being a single player only related mechanic is extremely high. The odds of it being a "go to this and press this button" are also extremely high which has been done to death in games.

It looks more like a Crysis 2 expansion pack more than anything else.

Given that Battlefield 3 just got destroyed by its ridiculous 'premium' service I was really looking for an upcoming FPS to get into but if Crysis 3 is going to be the same perks and killstreaks garbage it's going to be another 100-500 player count game.

Or, maybe you're just not giving the game the chance it deserves.
Are you one of those types who thinks that a game will be terrible because it doesn't match your tastes?
If that's true, then why are you here?
If it isn't then you have no excuse as to whining about a game still in development.

Celery.

TBH, Crysis 3 is going to be what Crysis 2 was supposed to be. The full, working version of Crysis 2.

That's what I seem to think, and hope. And I'll play it, because even with Crysis 2's multitude of crap, I still enjoy it.

I'll come in and say, I wasn't all impressed as of yet. It still looks like a Crysis 2.5 or at most an expansion pack not a stand alone title. If anything the only thing justifying the 3 is the fact that it's set XX amount of years since the last game.

The game looks nice. Looks like there is always a multiple of well-constructed ways to get to an objective and along side there's plenty of empty space for d*cking around. Looks like a pretty good game, though the devmode didn't quite help estimate the AI's abilities.

Well that was boring. I'll never understand why they demo these games with a console controller by someone who clearly hasn't played the game for more than 30 minutes. It makes everything so sluggish. Prophet looks like a fumbling drunk, swaying around like "WHERE HE GO?"

"Path 1/Path 2/Path 3" - are you kidding me? So it's going to be the whole "TACTICOOL OPTIONS AVAILABLE!!!111" mess all over again?
Environment is very nicely detailed and everything although the gameplay looks almost as linear as Crysis 2

There are different missions... Some are "linear" some aren't.
But, the only thing that worries me is the same GUI. Seriously, same energy bar, ammo box and minimap?

"Regarding sandbox/path options - that screenshot above isn't a good representation of what the actual game will offer - it's just something cooked up for the trailer. Can't give away details but there will be multiple ways to approach the dam in this level and you didn't even get to see what the lower area looks like (damn demo was cut short ) so rest assured, there will be much more awesome to come."

I guess since it's the same suit, the HUD will remain the same as in C2 with minor modifications. Anyways, a HUD, why's that so important? I think they will keep most of their promises and make a great game out of this title. The demo on e3 was kinda short, but you could see that Cevat was upset with something. He's facial interactions and his voice wasn't like, wow we're here on E3 and we will destroy this place with C3. I guess something bad came up before the show or something.

Personally I like the HUD, what's wrong with it? Why change something that isn't broken? (actually a health bar would be nice to have...)

Well, I'm sorry, but then that is not Crysis.

Funny how people use this argument now, and yet refer to Crysis 2, which wasn't 'crysis' by any account of the original. Things can and should change sometimes. Saying this 'is not crysis' is meaningless in this regard.

Personally, I'll wait for a demo before I write it off, but if it plays like Crysis 2, it's a no-go for me. The 'style' of Crysis 2 is just a nice way of saying 'oversimplified' or 'casualised'.

EDIT: and that path1/2/3 **** has just got to go..

Game looks awesome. If you people are crying just because it's using the same models, animations and HUD then you should go and kill yourself or come back when you reach puberty. A LOT of well-known and high quality sagas recycle stuff from previous games (E.g: Half Life). Why? Because as M4dn3ss said:
Why change something that isn't broken?

Hell, why would they waste their time doing new models and animations when the current ones are great? They should focus on other stuff such as level design.
