Thoughts on getting ready for Automatron

Post » Sun Mar 20, 2016 1:34 am

I made a new one, but I also just made sure to add a few in the robot expert perks just in case I really want to get into the DLC ASAP, like if I have to be a certain level. I also usually always have all ranks of the gun nut and scientist perk just for settlement defenses, and also my gun mods so I know that I will be able to craft the new weapons, but hopefully I can get my new guy up to a high enough level in one week. I may not have a lot of ultra high level characters, but I do have a couple of level 45-54 characters that all have their own style just in case I need those skill sets to play a certain DLC that bethesda might come up with.

I've been saving legendary weapon drops designed specifically to fight against robots. Also have a stockpile of over 2000 missiles, a couple hundred nukes, and the double shot Gauss Rifle.

In over 900 hours, 500 current character, I did not take out Covenant. It's tiny and a bit of a hassle to use. I knew i was saving it for something, I just didn't know what. Now i do. It will be my robot workshop. Time to kill those seemingly nice folks and the cross lake synth torture facility.

Another fired said the explosive shotgun will be good too because it applies the explosive affect per pellet. however, that limited to close combat.

Already got all the robot hack perks i just need a legendary drop with bonus robot damage. And my plan is to finish off my current SS all through far harbor before starting new SS. I get too invested in my rpg characters.

I took Robotics Expert because it fit into my RP for my character and lo and behold, the first DLC is going to involve robots heavily ha ha. It felt serendipitous. Anyhoo, I'm preparing mainly by just playing the game... not doing anything special. My hope is that each DLC will fit the post-game narrative well. I always thought they did at least. For instance, when playing Skyrim with all the DLC installed right off the bat, it got overwhelming early in the game when you were trying to be the Dragonborn and then the Dawnguard recruits you AND THEN the dragon cultists try to kill you. It makes it feel like the end of the world is happening at the worst possible moment lol. I look forward to each DLC as another "event" in the game world, almost like expansions.

In that sense, I'm glad I've got my post game world built up and my main character is just sort of doing his job, until the sh-- hits the fan again.

My only concern is how player level effects the dlc. In skyrim for example, doing certain quests at a lower level would yield unique rewards scaled down to your level. Which was a serious buzz kill.

In this game, we see elements of that in weapon/gear spawning. Light/medium/heavy armors spawning at certain levels. Certain weapons only start appearing later on.. It'd be seriously annoying to kill the mechanist, and realize if you only held out for another 10 levels, you could have gotten a much better set of weapon/armor.

Probably says something about me that I'm much more focused on perks that would allow me to mod the bots, rather than fight them; blacksmith, armorer, gun nut, science! etc. I trust my reflexes to keep me alive, but the best of reflexes won't build me a better robot

Edit: Changed it from "mod the mods" to something that made a little more sense

Id blow my own face off if I was using an explosive shotgun that close lol.

I generally wait till a ghoul is like less than a meter away to pew pew with shotguns.

Also, yes, don't use an explosive weapon at close range, bad decision right there.

You can only hack robots that are non-hostile toward you. However, even though you can only have 1 robot follow you at a time, you can store them in your settlements for later use by shutting them down. There are also a few robots that have god-mode enabled, making them nearly invincible. Three I know of off the top off my head are: that dude from Power Noodle, First Mate from that ship that got stuck in a building, and KL-E-0 (the assaultron who runs a shop in Goodneighbor).

The perk is worth it just to have KL-E-0 as a partner.

Kent will upgrade your Silver Shroud Armor on these levels, 25, 35, ans 45 if I'm not mistaken. Just listen to Silver Shroud radio when you hit those lvls.

In my opinion, it is one of the best perks in the game. Assaultrons and Combat Sentries become chump change and they are two of the toughest opponents I think. You can also hack in-combat and at a distance, which is apparently something they changed about the perk. So, contrary to what Maverick said, you can actually hack hostile robots, at least in 1.4.

Agree. I pacified a hostile ghoul once, so the very same should apply.

FudgeMuppet has a handy guide for farming specific weapons/effects on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z9Zh8YXwbI&list=PLt4dvC3zSbYCa1XMpri_u_lVFzRyB0b-j&index=47. It's a bit tedious but if you don't mind fighting the same room of mobs over and over it works.

The most I'm going to do to get ready, is make a new character. Since I did that last week, I just need to wait.

Would be nice to know the mats needed. Steel, screws, adhesive, nuclear material, etc. But I've been farming weapons and gear and scrapping everything.

I'll think I'll start up a new build dedicated to going through Automatron. I wonder if Codsworth recognizes the name Wily...
