My Thoughts - Lifetime or Yearly Subscription?

Post » Tue Mar 11, 2014 1:01 am

Information:

Monthly fee: $15

Yearly fee: $180

Yearly: would get ZoS a year of money right away so they can pay off the Games Development fee ( used to make the game)

Benefits:

-Don't have to worry about subscriptions days for 1 year

-You can play the game for 1 year

-Give ZoS money for a year right away to pay off any fee they have

Lifetime: would possible kill the game in 2 years cause no one would pay to keep the game up cause they got lifetime sub

Benefits:

-Don't have to worry about subscription days left

-you can play the game anytime you want

I would love to here what you guys think about this:

----Please don't try post things like $15 isn't bad to handle because the whole point is not would want no lifetime or yearly its about what one you would perfer

You're assuming lifetime subs would be unlimited, and people in general are assuming they will be relatively cheap. If they offer them I don't think either of these assumptions will be true.

I'd pay for a couple of yearly memberships right off for my wife and I. If they have 3 month cards I'd do that too if they only go that far with bundle deals.

By the way, Gamestop was taking preorders for two month time cards yesterday, so for those who don't have credit card access or can avoid fluctuating exchange rates with them, that's an available option.

Depends how much of a discount the yearly sub would be, around £79.99 I probably would buy it.

This poll doesn't make much sense to me. First, you have options for yearly that cost more than the monthly would run for an entire year. Why?

Second, I doubt very seriously anyone would purchase a lifetime subscription, other than the very rich (who cares little of spending money). Besides that, MMOs dont last forever, new ones come out, and anyone that plays these games know they wont be playing it forever... and anyone who can afford a "lifetime" subscription, can careless about 15$ a month while they are playing.

I've been playing MMOs since before they were graphical and never have I purchased even a yearly subscription. The upfront cost isn't worth the few dollars you save. Edit: If the costs difference was significant, like half, then maybe I would consider it, but I have never seen that in any game.

--You missed the ONLY real benefit to these types of deals.... how much money you save.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as this, I know I'll play ESO quite a bit but from time to time real life has to take over. Its great knowing I'll be potentially saving a few £'s on the monthly price vs paying for a years monthly subs and still log in when I feel like it! Nothing worse than subbing for a month then having a lot of work on so you miss 2-3 weeks play time.

Lifetime membership would just be the devs stealing money from their own pockets. Makes no sense and would be bad for the game.

Your yearly prices also make no sense as 2 of the tiers in the vote are more expensive than just paying monthly. Why would anyone pay more than $15 a month to be locked in for longer than a month??

I take it this poll was not very well thought out

I don't like the idea of a life time sub. A yearly sub with a price of about $150 would be ideal; two free months for buying a years worth of game time or one free month for a years sub for $165 ($15 x $12 = $180. -$15 for one free month = $165. -$30 for two free months = $150.) Either one free month or two free months would be nice, but I have a feeling that if/when they do add a yearly sub, I think only a small amount will be taken off the price like save $5 or $10 for buying a year; I would most likely buy it for that price.

This thread is misleading you are lying about the information you provide regarding the lifetime sub. Please provide a citation or links to verify that what you are saying is in any way true...

There is no evidence supporting the fact that MMO players who would buy a lifetime sub but can`t would sub the game for 3 years, the average MMO players stays subbed less than 6 months so by comparison the lifetime sub is a win for Zenimax.

Again, you force people to read the lies you write then make them vote... are you working for EA?

EDIT: I`ll add this: if after two years you only have the people that bought your lifetime at launch as players its because the game tanked and the lifetime sub had nothing to do with that.

No. Never. No MMO, no matter how good it looks on release or ever is worth a yearly subscription, there is just too much uncertainty that you will stick to it for a whole year.

te life time subcription would be something that you have like maybe 30 day to pick up at most, thus everyone who is unable to pick up such, gets the fee along with future players down the road

And why in your post are you suggesting it be 180 for a yearly subcription, people whold get a discount if buying a years worth of game time at once, like save 5$ a month or something like that

Oh honey.... they already got money to spare with the ridiculous imperial edition, don't you worry about them "paying the development costs". If they haven't, probably in the first month they will, as much as an MMO costs, the pathetic, yet "genius" move their marketing team pulled netted them such a capital injection they probably are swimming in profits already... But giving them benefit of doubt, it won't be more than 1-2 months before it is all profits.

So whatever point you need to make, don't worry about lack of money, they got plenty of it.

I am far from rich, and care very much how I spend my money. With that said I have a LTS in Star Trek Online that has paid for itself 3 times over. I would also jump at the chance to buy a LTS for this game as I feel it is worth it, and a good ivestment. I plan on playing this game for a long while (2 years, at least) and an LTS would pay for itself before that 2 years is up. So, no need to make uniformed assumptions.

Also, as was said, there is already a topic on this, why create another one. The search button is your friend.

Do not like the idea of a lifetime sub and ill take that as a sign that Devs plan on making the game F2P within 6 months.

As to a payment plan. This is what I consider to be normal.

14.99 Per month

13.99 Per month for 3 months subscriptions. = 41.97 (saving of $3)

12.99 Per month for 6 months subscriptions. = 77.94 (savings of $12)

11.99 Per month for 1 year subscriptions. = 143.88 (savings of $36)

Lifetime fees are a joke unless insanely cheap. How many games do you know that started off as pay and then switched to free to play. Guess who gets screwed... yes... anyone who paid yearly+.

A SINGLE annual membership is all I suspect you'd have to time to play before this moves to free to play... UNLESS... they are different than the 234273498237490283749087 other MMO's out there. The fact is, for a monthly fee... and a HIGH monthly fee at that... they better bring something WORTH IT to the table... fast and consistent updates, new content every month, etc.

Personally, at the moment, I have the disposable income to pay on it... but if things get tight... guess what's going to go. Monthly fees are an OLD (ancient in computer years) concept whose time has come and gone with the 90's. Free to play and microtransactions are the way it's done now. Every game that's switched to this model has become more profitable, gotten more users and generally been more successful.

It's only a matter of time before they realize it... if it's not already in the works.

So no, no lifetime membership or yearly membership without SIGNIFICANT perks.

I'm a maybe for a lifetime sub if they offered one. I do have one for Secret World and love it and the opportunity to go play a game if I get the urge to while not feeling obligated to be on it.

To those commenting that you get screwed because the game goes F2P. Most MMO's as far as I know that offered them went "freemium" where you can play for free, but missing a lot of stuff you'd have to buy separately unless you subscribe. Also in the case of Secret World at least you also get cash shop currency monthly as well as lots of fun cosmetic goodies for the subscription. All in all was very worth it for that.

First of all, pricing the yearly sub the exact same as all months in a year is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. There is literally no incentive to buy one that way.

Second, A more reasonable yearly sub is low 100s. Around 120 or so.

Third, IF they were to add a lifetime sub for whatever stupid reason, it should be 400+. Anyone who says otherwise is just cheap and wants something for nothing.

I made out like a bandit with my STO lifetime sub. Evening it out I'm currently paying about $6.25 a month. by the time it went free to play, it was equal to around $10.40 a month.

That said, I don't see a lifetime sub as a long term viable option for an MMO. I want to see this game remain pay-to-play for as long as possible and I don't think mass amounts of lifer subs encourage that.

In terms of smaller subs, i'm guessing they'll go with up to a year, at the very least six months. I'd probably go with six months.

I pay yearly for LOTRO at $99.99 and since it's still my wife's favorite game..totally worth it.

If ESO had a similar pricing scheme that would be great

1 Month - $14.99

3 Months - $29.97 ($9.99/month)

6 Month - $59.94 ($9.99/month)

12 Months - $99.99 ($8.32/month)

And where did you get that informatiion that a regular mmo player stays sub onky fir 6 months? Can you provite referrence and reliable citation on this? Everyone i know who plays pay to play mmo has been playing no less than 2-3 years. Lets just look at WOW. Initially 8 years ago they had 1.5 million players at launch and over the years the subscription grew to 12 mill to its peak when wotlk launched in 2011. Just recently the subscription dropped to 7.5mill. It has been more than 8 years now. Dont tell me those 7mill+ are all new?

Your argument doesnt make sense and cannot hold any weight. Heres the referrence:

I would like to to see bulk pricing for those of us who are willing to shell out for 3/6/12 months at a time. I was looking at other games to see what their pricing plans were:

Game - 1month 3month 6month 12month

AoC - 14.99 13.99 12.99 N/A

DAoC - 14.95 13.95 11.95 11.45

DCUO - 14.99 12.99 11.99 9.99

EQ2 - 14.99 12.99 11.99 9.99

EvE - 14.95 12.95 11.95 10.95

FFXI - 11.95 N/A N/A N/A

FFXIV - 14.99 13.99 12.99 N/A

LotRO - 14.99 9.99 9.99 8.25

Rift - 14.99 12.29 10.29 8.25

STO - 14.99 13.99 12.99 N/A

SWTOR - 14.99 13.99 12.99 N/A

UO - 12.99 12.99 10.00 N/A

WoW - 14.99 13.99 12.99 N/A

I'd like to see 14.99 as the base 1 month at a time plan (I believe they've already confirmed this?), then 1299-13.99 a month for three months, 11.99-12.99 a month for six months and 9.99-10.99 a month for 12 months. Keeps it within the industry standard and rewards people who are willing to make a longer financial commitment to the game.

Still not sure about Lifetime though. I'm yet to find a game that offered Lifetime and didn't go free to play, and it worries me that Lifetime is a quick cash grab rather than an investment in the future of the game.
