Yeah there aren't enough places to mine ore from and I hate waiting around for my guy to lightly tap the rock 6 times.

I agree that there are not enough places to mine. In fact there are so few that I carry a pickaxe just in case I find something, even if its in the middle of dungeon-crawling.

They could have just left out mining and allowed the ores to be found as loot and continue to have merchants selling it.

What a frivolous complaint... "doesnt [sic] give it a proper swing." You're absolutely right - how hard you swing a pick at a mineral vein is directly related to the amount of usable ore in that vein. Not swinging the pickaxe during mining is bothering you enough to post about? People are just looking for stuff to [censored] about now, this is getting ridiculous.

You get 3 ore per vein and any gems as a bonus if lucky :)
If you dislike the animated mining, equip a pickaxe as a weapon and swing at the vein, it will do the same as if you clicked to mine, dual wielding speeds up even further.

^^^^^

I still mine for the gems, or if it's iron ore.

Iron ore + Transmute = cash and the only reason why I even have Alteration leveled at all

You can equip the pickaxe and swing it at the rock yourself, it's much quicker.

mining seems thrown in and incomplete. It has no real use until they put out the "DLC" that was cut from game or never finished.

There are actually lots of places to mine ore, not just in the mines and dungeons, but in the world above as you are exploring.

I see ore veins all the time when walking around (though I did install the glowing ore veins mod) I was surprised how many ore veins were lying around the land.

There are actually so many of them, there is no need to make a special trip to a mine.

What did you people expect? A mining mini-game or something? And how in the world does it feel "incomplete"?

You go to a mine (or random ore vein above ground), extract the ore, then use the smelter to convert it to ingots for crafting. Seems pretty complete to me.
