Thoughts on New Vegas

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 12:39 pm

I am a huge fan of Fallout 3 and Bethesda, and I'm not very familiar with Obsidian. Do you expect New Vegas to be a first person shooter like Fallout 3 or a look down game like Fallouts 1 and 2 and why?

Thanks

I have a feeling it'll be more like fallout 1 and 2 since many people were disappointed in Fallout 3.

That would be awesome if it was like Fallout 3 in that respect, but in http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=23276 article it says that a number of personel on the Obsidian staff are from Black Isle.

Who knows? There isn't much info about it at all. I mean, they couldn't cough up a month or even show much confidence in if it will be a success.

I need to see a trailer before I can judge a game. Then I have to PLAY the game. You can't say much about a game if you just read about it.

It will be an fps, judging by the reports of it using the same engine as Fallout 3.

I have a feeling its going to be like 1 & 2 because the lead directors of Obsidian created 1 & 2. I don't know if it was the lead directors specifically, but I know for certain that a pretty big position is held by the makers of 1 and 2

It will most likely have the same gameplay style and engine as Fallout 3. Pete Hines said it will be in the same style as Fallout 3, and they have only a year and a half to make it, so it will most likely use the Fallout 3 engine and assets.

However, given that it's being made by some of the people that made Fallout and Fallout 2, it will also likely have better writing, story and choices & consequences than Fallout 3.

I personally don't really care what the hell it looks like. All I know is that I think it will be awesome. I absolutely love Fallout 1,2 and 3 so the fact that it's being made be some of the original devs is even better. I really want concept art for a new desktop wallpaper now. :(

I honestly don't care if it's the same as Fallout 3 in every way but the setting.

Throw in some Fallout-version of the Las Vegas Star Trek Experience and I'll buy it based solely on that.

That would bring a tear to me eye.

I'm glad Obsidian is developing. They may have Bethesda's penchant for buggery, but they sure know how to write good dialogue and plots that follow logically.

Its likely, but the engine is not the cause of that. There are several games that use variants of Gamebryo, and they vary quite a bit from Fallout 3 (or TES).

I expect that the idea was to just make FO3 in Vegas... But I would sincerely hope that they reconsider that approach and explore the option for a more in depth game with a tactical bent, and less focus on run-N-gun. Something more in step with the series.

As a former player of KOTOR 2 and NWN 2, I must ask: was that sarcasm?

Kidding aside, if it is like MOTB, it will be quite brilliant.
