You may as well say that if I order tomato soup and I get chicken that's okay and I should just like basic soup.

Chicken! That's what they're called.

What? There's absolutely no such thing as basic steak. There's on average 5-6 different types of steak you can get in each restaurant and they all have their own way to be cooked. If you want to eat poorly cooked meat then that's your choice, but if I order a rare steak and it comes well done, I'm going to complain because that is two entirely different types of meat. You may as well say that if I order tomato soup and I get chicken that's okay and I should just like basic soup.

Lol, that's a great point. I couldn't have said it better myself.
I had to edit a rofl in.

As someone who actually took college level biology, I refute your claim. They don't have nerve cells. They have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant_hormones and that's about it.

No nerve cells, no brain, no pain receptors. It's like asking "oh, gee, do you think this E. coli will feel pain if I slap it?"

Can plants react to damaged parts of themselves? Yeah, of course, they have an immune system. Can some react to touch? Uh-huh, that's the plant hormones thing again. Do they actually "feel" anything? No, they don't have a central nervous system.

well jellyfish don't have brains, but they can still feel
and there was some scientist that proved this, but this is kinda getting off topic
no matter what you eat your still killing something to get nutrients

closing argument: the bible says to respect our elders, and plants have been around way longer than us

Quorn causes salt crystals in your toes leading to gout.

A shame, because I like quorn more than land-bird (can't remember what they're called right now - the clucky ones).

I'm assuming you mean in excess...

Scripture also tells us that man is the master of the Earth. That plants, animals, and all things are put here to be ruled by us. For a time, man was not allowed to eat meat. It wasn't until after the Flood that El Shaddai gave Noah (and through him, all his descendants) the right to eat meat. Learn 2 bible.

And I wan't to point out that what I just said shouldn't really be taken as religion. That's the structure and plot of that particular part of Genesis.

Our great ancestors who were herbivores were stupid, and the carnivorous were more intelligent.

This is what I think of 'vegetarianism'.

If someone orders a medium steak, and complains about a slight bit of red, that annoys me. I have no patience for people like that. If you don't like any red, get well done!

I like meat, plain and simple.

However, I do respect the decision of those who are vegetarians...except for those who do eat fish because they claim it isn't meat. Because fish is so obviously meat.

I like meat omnomnomnomnomnomnomnomnomnomnom

Indeed

In all seriousness, I dont see anything wrong with eating meat, nor do I have anything particularly against vegetarians, some are so by religion.. But I hate the self-righteous vegetarians who gain some sense of moral high-ground from it, And I dont see how Vegetarians are "protecting the earth" when they keep eating all the bloody plants. Seriously, it's ridiculous, I had a girl in my High School year who was a strict vegetarian and kept trying to enforce her beliefs on the rest of us (she even called us "murderers" when she saw we were eating meat  )

Not my thing, but each to their own  My girlfriend is a vegetarian, so evidently I'm at least tolerant of it.

I have incisors for a reason, and it's not to chew on leaves.

Exactly.

Animals would eat us if they could. There is absolutely nothing morally wrong with eating meat, or keeping animals in cooped up pens. It's completely natural, seeing as we are natural to this Earth, everything we do is natural, including eating meat.

Unless you physically can't eat meat, I see no reason to be a vegetarian.

I don't know about you guys, but I just love meat. And I really feel like if the animals were to get eaten in the wild anyway, I might as well not feel bad for snacking down on some nice side of pig. I mean, if I were eating, Sure, we cause the animals suffering by killing them, but we are the apex predator of the solar system. We can eat what we want, and we might as well not feel bad about it. We're not the only smart animals on this rock, and most of the smart animals don't feel bad about eating the food they eat. Why should we?

That's how I feel about it, at least. But hey, if you like eating vegetables, I won't hold that against you, as long as you eat vegetables because you [censored] like them, not because you feel bad about eating meat. Even then, if you don't guilt trip me about my meat-eating habits, I'll respect your views.

Personally, I hate eating most things that are green and leafy. If a person hated fillet mignon with the passion that I hate Brussels Sprouts, then I would have to respect their choice to not eat meat.

I can get most of the stuff I need from meat and the few things that I can tolerate that aren't from the animal kingdom, so I'm happy.

Yes, I''ve parsed your sentence, but this just seems like a contradiction.

I'm not sure that everything we do is natural; gads, you're making be dust of some cobwebs from way back about the various levels of tree hugging. Thanks

Erm, have you run into people who actually believe what you stated?

They are not buying the food, thus decreasing demand. Since there is less demand, the intestine and byproducts may still run free :)

@D-11: On that same page, I saw Super-Size Me. I never wanted fast food more in my life than after watching that movie.

I ate Chicken Nuggets while I watched that...

The only reason I don't eat at McDonalds anymore is that I got a cheeseburger that was absolute [censored], and tasted like it too. Burger King over here is a lot better, but I prefer something a bit more "home made" so when I get a burger I go to a small burger place nearby instead.

Or I order food from Spice.no...which is one of the best websites ever :P Had their fajitas a few days ago, and I will certainly order more from them, even if it is a bit pricey.

What about giving them engineered growth hormones? Feeding herbivores meat? Sometimes even the same species ? These things are natural?

We can do these things so they are natural. There is nothing we can do that is unnatural, think about it.

Also @ rumblyguts: My English must be failing me, because I have no clue what you're talking about with the dust and cobwebs.
