Thoughts on...

Post » Sun Feb 21, 2010 8:03 am

I gave it up because of texture as well. It was just gross. Since I've started to eat it again, I've learned to live with it...but I still don't like it a whole lot.

Hamburger is much different than steak. Steak is what caused me to give up meat. It's [censored] gross. Hamburger is a lot more palatable in my opinion.

You gave up meat because of steak? I hate steak too, but I couldn't live without meat....

I gave it up because of texture as well.

It's not just the texture. It's the taste too. :yuck:

Come to think of it, there are a lot of foods I've never had.

Spoiler
I've never had:

Hamburger/Cheeseburger
Yogurt
Mashed Potatoes
A tomato
Beans
Peppers
Most types of fish
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Spinach
Sourcrout (sp)
Ham
Hogie (aka a sub, depending on where you're from)
Soda (Not the soda as in Pepsi, I mean the soda as in well...You know with pop, ice cream, a spoon, etc)
Most cheeses

And the list goes on and on.

Nope, I'm not self-righteous enough to be a vegetarian. The modern day vegetarian movement is just a fad and hopefully it will pass soon.

I must point out that there is a considerable difference between the people who are vegetarians for the purpose of being 'self-righteous', and those who are vegetarians because of health reasons.
Not to mention, some people don't eat meat because of religious observances; to wit, some Hindu sects.
As previously stated, I know quite a few vegetarians- they are all perfectly nice people who don't even consider rubbing their lifestyle choices in your face.

im not against it, alot of my friends are vegetarians, but me, im the kind of guy who goes and orders the biggest steak at texas roadhouse and has nothing but a potatoe on the side :P

i couldnt be a vegetarian, it would kill me. my diet mostly consists of meat and starch. the only vegetables i eat are green beans, peas, caeser salads, and occasionally carrots.

EDIT: i also could not live a week without fried chicken, being that i live in the south haha......and yes i just stereotyped myself.

It wasn't hard. Really. I always find those types of statements to be silly. Trust me, you could live just fine and dandy without it. I can respect that you wouldn't want to though. :)

I just don't really like the texture of any meat. Of all meats, I find hamburger and fish to be the least obnoxious.

I can't stand anything with a bone in it, still. The idea of ripping something off the bone is gross and unappealing to me.

Please explain to me how vegetarians are self-righteous? A lot of them just don't want to be a consumer in the meat market because of the killing of animals. Some are vegetarians because of health reasons. Nothing self righteous about either of those reasons.

Your self righteous attitude about not being self righteous smacks of irony.

Hence why I said "modern day vegetarian movement" instead of "all vegetarianism".

I don't understand it either

I don't see it as a fad either. Vegetarianism is not something that's new so I'm not quite sure where you're getting this fad business

Not to mention how most meat these days is pumped full of growth hormone, and god knows what else. Organic beef is almost twice the cost at my local market; confronted with the choice of playing chemical roulette or shelling out the extra cash, I'd probably become a vegetarian too.

You win the internet.

I couldn't down a vegetable if my life depended on it. (With a VERY small range of acceptable vegetables I can eat. Like potatoes, red paprica and a two or three others) I simply can't stomach the texture and I have thrown up on occasion after eating vegetables

Your observation on the ironies of self-righteous statements smacks of...

...this should stop

How is having no shame in killing things and eating them self-righteous?

The internet said so?

Probably the same way having no shame in not killing things, and not eating dead things is...

I just pointed out the self-righteousness in your previous post. It was full of the same "I'm better than these people because I don't do this..." that you where accusing "modern day vegetarians" of.

In all fairness, everything you eat -unless it's squirming as you put it into your mouth, and you're welcome for that mental image- is either dead or dying. Plant matter is not exempt from this; it begins to break down the day it is cut. Which is why it's good to buy from farmer's markets when possible; the food is pretty much guaranteed to be fresh.

Also, why y'all hatin' on my vegetables. ;3;

Wow, some of the people here are extremely picky. As for me, if it was once living, I'll eat it. I'm not so picky.

I too cannot stomach most vegetables

The best I can do is corn, artichokes, and carrots (and possibly a few others but I can't think of any right now)
