Thoughts on...

I was just curious about many forum members are vegetarians (or some more specific form of it) and what your thoughts on the subject are.

So, how about it?

I was a vegetarian, bordering on veganism for 10 years. It was fine. When my son is older, I'll return to that diet more than likely.

About a year and a half ago, my son started eating solid foods. Because his health trumps anything else, I started eating meat again so he would have a balanced diet. I know it would have been possible to raise him vegetarian and still have him on a healthy balanced diet, but it's much easier, much cheaper, and much more normal for him this way.

I have incisors for a reason, and it's not to chew on leaves.

I like eating meat - I know that doing so is ethically suspect but I push that to the back of my mind.

I prefer eating animals without neocortices, but it's not something I really strongly stick to.

I like meat and I don't want to have to jump through the hoops to get all my proteins and amino acids when they are all located in a singular source.

I like some meat, and I dislike some meat. I dislike more than I like. My friends think I won't eat some because of animal rights and I tell them "No. I've had steak and I think it tastes like [censored]. It has nothing to do with animal rights."

And they won't stop nagging me to try a burger. Never had one, never will. If I don't like steak why would I like a hamburger?

I gave it up because of texture as well. It was just gross. Since I've started to eat it again, I've learned to live with it...but I still don't like it a whole lot.

Hamburger is much different than steak. Steak is what caused me to give up meat. It's [censored] gross. Hamburger is a lot more palatable in my opinion.

Quite right, quite right. They're for slicing leaves. The molars are what do the chewing. :3

For the record, my parents are vegetarian, as are several of my "real-life" friends.
I, on the other reason, see no reason not to take advantage of my omnivore physiology.

EDIT: Also, I prefer fish and chicken to red meat- although I do indulge in the latter from time to time.

Nope, I'm not self-righteous enough to be a vegetarian. The modern day vegetarian movement is just a fad and hopefully it will pass soon.

This

My sister tried a vegan lifestyle for a while but the changes in her diet caused her to have some mild medical problems that are associated with the changes from switching diets.

If you're just starting out you should contact your doctor or dietician to make the transition a smooth one (yes I know there is a difference between vegetarians and vegans but the advice still stands)

I'm lacto-vegetarian mainly 'cause meat repulses me a bit. And, biased on past experiences, I think I'll try to avoid this thread.
