Thread for Predictions of IGN's Crysis 2 Review

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 4:40 am

I picked IGN because i find IGN reviews to be fun to read one way or another (extremely biased, paid to give good reviews, etc).

Presentation
- Run of the mill story, nice interface
- voice acting good at times, horrible at other times.
- 8

Graphics
- nice graphics compared to other games
- 9.5

Sounds
- some great sound effects and music
- cheesy dialogue
- 8

Gameplay
- Corridor shooter with some sandbox elements
- held by the hand approach is disappointing
- multiple of multiplayer modes and maps and unlocks
- horrible enemy AI hurts immersion
- 8

Lasting Appeal
- multiplayer keep you busy for a while, but overall nothing new to the genre outside of nanosuit functions
- 8.5

Overall 8.5 (great)

Lets see who gets the closest to the actual review!

9 and above. But as always, it depends on how much Crytek or EA pays them. I'm running dry on gaming websites that are actually reliable.

8.0 or 8.5.

That's what they've been giving most of their recently reviewed games. Besides, I mostly visit other game review sites since they're miles better than IGN.

Also, probably 9 and above for consoles. For PCs it might be 8 or something.

I think it will be different per system.

I suspect the 360/PC version to get a 9- 9.5. And considering they bashed the ps3 version in their preview, I'm think an 8.5 ( give or take)

Whatever IGN says im sure it will be BS.

I really cant stand them. I havent listened to a word they said for a few years now.

But i think 8.5 is a solid guess.

you know what.. thinking about past reviews from IGN on EA games, it has always been a week earlier than release if the score is a 9..

take for example, Hot Pursuit and Dead space 2.. both got a 9 and the review was up almost a week earlier.. 8th Nov for HP(16th release), 21st Jan for DS2(25th release), both before release dates..

if you take another EA game, Medal of Honor, it got a 6 from IGN and the review was up only on the 12th Oct, the release date of the game..

so i have a feeling that crysis 2 is going to get less than 9, probably a 7.5.. or maybe i am reading too much into it :P

that makes me a sad panda :(

horrible enemy AI hurts immersion That would kill all the sp for me:(
I have to expect it to be one of the strongest points to keep the gameplay interesting, just like in one-hit-wonder Far Cry. Judging from the vids A.I. doesn't look that great. Anyway, I want to get my own fingers on it and see how it turns out.

look at the posts in this thread and look at the times in the youtube videos linked. these things happen all too frequently.

Not to say IGN's score really means anything aside from a hit to the all important Meta score but it does seem that they hold off bad reviews of large scale games, possibly payed to do so, so the game get's sales on day one and pre orders that are not deterred by a early bad review. But really I think most on these forums will buy it anyway to come to their own unbiased conclusion.

I generally just watch reviews for the footage and make up my own mind. By the time the scores are rolling on the screen I′ve likely already flipped to another website. That said, considering this is IGN, they′ll probably say something along the lines of:

360: perfect 10.0
Ps3, PC: 3.2 (Because loading times generally took approximately 1/4 a second longer/other fanboy claim)
