While I've been browsing the forum I've noticed several threads devoted to certain genres of music and was disappointed when my favorite genre had not been represented. So I decided to make this thread. This thread is for the discussion and sharing of rap music. This thread is for rap and rap only, do not bring in other genres of music within this thread because it will lead to the threads closure. Also do not post if all you want to do is bash rap music, if you don't like it don't post. Have fun and enjoy the music!

What is rap music?

Rap music is an aspect of the Hip Hop culture, it is spoken rhyming poetry usually said over a beat but it can be free styled. Rap within the English language means to strike especially quickly which fits with its usually fast spoken lyrics. Rap is usually associated with African and Latino culture though it has spread in a small amount to Whites and Asians. Rap came out of the blues and jazz culture of the 20's and 30's and is often associated with the struggle of being a disenfranchised minority in a white man's capitalist world. Rap is about the struggle, defeat and the victory.

Who is considered rap artists?

I used to listen a lot of MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Klf, Public Enemy back in my school years. Then I moved to Euro dance of the 90s. I'm no longer up to date with current rap.

Oh, I forgot SNAP!

Snap were my number 1 but I'm not sure that was rap or techno. And the only ones that I've seen live in 2 concerts.
