Threads of yore

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:48 am

I don't know if many people remember this thread, but it was always one of my favorite ones from when I first joined. I think it surfaced in May of 2006 in the OB/GEN. It was entitled "GUNS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!???" and featured a kid asking if guns were in Oblivion because his brother told him they were. The entire thread featured people telling him of bogus ways to get a gun, like swimming westward from Anvil, deleting your saves, and holding your breath for five minutes and then a chest will appear. Then someone said it was in a hidden chest in the Count of Skingrad's castle. Of course, there were a few "Jump off of Dive Rock" suggestions thrown in. I laughed and laughed.

Another one was the Community Story. It was one of those threads where each person told a sentence for a story. It was swiftly locked, but while I have the entire text, I will summarize: Phil woke up, had to get his bowels flushed out with salt water, story was restarted, Phil woke up, went to the office party, forgot to bring a cake, a hard booger was snorted out of his nose and everyone noticed, then a nuclear explosion occurred and it was described in pretty great detail (something like "Before Phil knew it, he felt his skin boiling away"), he woke up, it was a dream, and this woman from the office party was in his bed, but she was a corpse who had been dead for weeks and he didn't notice. Then the thread was locked. I know we weren't supposed to mention locked threads! The mods did give us a chance with that one, though.

And yeah. I know I don't have room to say this, but I will say the forums are a tad bit lively now. I'm guessing it's the large increase in the population and that there are now several games bringing us together, so we feel a bit less close. Ooh, but one of my biggest pet peeves is the huge influx of "HELP ME CHOOSE A GAME!" and "HELP ME BUILD/BUY A COMPUTER!" threads, especially now because people aren't using the proper threads for them and making the titles less obvious, so I wind up clicking on them. Oh well, I'll keep coming here every day for the rest of my life, haha. I have been coming nearly every day since 2007, anyway.

Yes I find this very annoying and at times I had a few threads of my own on my computer problems in the past but I haven't done any of those in a while.
I find it funny I am on almost everyday and maybe I might not always post but I still come here even though at times it is boring and sometimes even though I may think of some members annoying. I have no idea why I come here? I think it is because it is one of the most civilized forum on the internet where the mods are good at most times.

I remember a thread from quite a while back started by some chap who was determined to learn how to drink soup through his nose. I think he wanted to impress his girlfriend or something. Sadly, he never reported back to let us know of his success. I can only assume he perished in a bizarre soup-related accident.

I have a short memory to these things but I found that math problem thread yesterday memorable.

I remember the strawberry thread too. I saved a copy of it.

IFI-03304 as I like to refer to it. Back when the forums weren't one gigantic conglomerate and there was a Star Trek forum. Like any good conspiracy shortly after the incident all of the various separate forums were dissolved for the mega forum. Any of rosie's threads, I still have some quotes buried away somewhere. The evolution game while it lasted, god that goes way back. Got way out of hand though, and I suspect some of our older members have been lost to the ever dark (evil) side and weren't seen again after the big crack down.

Edit
The Tabrien Chronicles and the original recruitment so long ago. Despite what happened to the project it inspired me to write my book now, damn shame the team couldn't stick around after the splinter though. This is digging way back to 04 though... maybe early 05 at the earliest.

And was ultimately dubbed "spectralproductions" and various variants of the former... :D

I remember many of the threads you've mentioned from back when I was a creepystalker that just followed along. You guys used to be so funny!

The "How to survive a Zombie Apocalypse" threads that have already been mentioned are one of my favorites. Helps also that they are what really got me into the CD forums after casual browsing and posting on/of the forums off and on since 2001. Hard to believe how quick those threads filled up ^^

Haha, Ope. He started out as just another poster then he basically decided to become an epic troll. Really really funny though.

Same here. I used to check around here about two years or so before I actually joined. It did seem more fun back in the day.

There was this one thread where someone asked about a pole that had somehow appeared in their backyard. Some of the theories as to how it showed up were pretty funny. :P

Oh yeah, and *rollsfaceonkeyboard*productions' relationship advice threads were epic too. Besides those there have been plenty of epic topics in the Oblivion and Fallout 3 section, but not as many in CD lately. :(

I guess I will bring up one of those locked threads the OP asked us not to bring up. Someone posted in Oblivion mods section to ask if someone would make a mod he could use to break it to a friend that he was doing his friends sister. I was like :o

Too funny. The bee thread and the strawberry thread were great and way back CCNA made one about folding fitted sheets that was full of hysteria. Just too funny.

Fitted sheets and the Oblivion mod "PS - I had six with your sister" thread weren't too long ago - 2008, maybe.

Not on the CD forums, but the thread series about this woman who wanted to propose to her boyfriend through Fallout 3 was great. Some modders got together to make a small quest that ended with a proposal. '1+1=1 Wedding Proposal' is the title the mod got in the end I think.

A thread from '09 about a site where it would take any phrase you put in and give you a dictionary definition of that word that it generated.

Here are some:

turns-the-page
interj. a statement of strong disagreement.
"Billy, can I sniff your pair of trousers?" "Turns-the-page!"

Vinegar Ra
adj. more fast-moving than usual.
"I wish my girl was Vinegar Ra."
Strawberries
adj. to be in a (sixual) relationship with someone.
"Is it true that Brian and Frank are Strawberries?"
six
adj. fake.
"Grandma, you're so six."
Pokemon
adj. addicted to girls.
"Do you like my pair of sunglasses, dawg?" "Yeah, it's Pokemon."
Require more pylons
adj. of a crude nature.
"What do you think of that girl, Jose?" "She's Require more pylons!"

God
n. someone who flaunts people.
"Yo, check out that God's people!"

Windows XP
n. 1. an outrageous house or home. 2. a fast-moving person.
"Dad! Gimme a Windows XP!"
