Three ways FO4 rocks

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 1:17 pm

I'm reading the complaints, and I agree with some of them, but with everything FO4 does right, I can't believe the wailing and screaming I'm hearing on some of these issues. So here are some positives.

1- I love the way they handled power armor this time around. I feel like I can use it as much as I need to, but I can't waste suit time. I've got a reason to try out the other gear, and not tramp around the whole game in the armor. When I'm using the armor, I feel that I've got a significant edge, but I'm not invincible, which is perfect. So I use it in big set pieces, but it's overkill for a random wandering encounter. And having multiple suits that I can hot rod and display is icing on the cake.

2- Traps are hard to spot, and deadly. Once I (quickly) got used to FO3's traps, they were a joke. Mines were a $$ opportunity. Now, they're not funny. Not funny at all. I like it.

3- Dogmeat is the most convincing yet. I get a kick out of all of the "real" dog mannerisms, and I wonder how much time Bethesda put into it. In fact, that random little whine he gives as he's walking along is a bit too realistic. It hate it when real dogs do that, and unlike a real dog, I can't tell Dogmeat to put a sock in it. But he's a good guy, a useful companion, and unlike the rest of them, he doesn't judge or have an agenda.

I really, really love Dogmeat. He changes the entire experience of a playthrough.

And I'm glad he can't die. I remember losing Dogmeat in Fallout 1 over and over because of the darn electric gates at the base

And in Fallout 3 one fire fight and he was dead before he hardly engaged.

They did dog meat right! My dog keeps hearing the sound effects from the game and crying thinking it's a real dog. That is how you know they did it right lol

One slight issue, Dogmeat is so good, there's little reason to use anyone else. Mainly because with the others you have to worry about them not liking what you do.

My guess is that Todd took a look at how successful the dragons in skyrim were and applied that method across the board. With skyrim a group of 4-5 people spent 3 years on the dragons. I bet he set groups of 2-7 people to spend 1-3 years on various portions of the game.

On-Topic- I have owned dogs all my life and have hunted with dogs as well and i have to tell you the way dog meat reacts in real time to your every move is so amazingly realistic is chilling. I feel his presence in my computer room while i'm in menus. I don't care who ya are that's immersion right there.

Dramatically understated sentiment: I love these three things about Fallout 4:

1. Power Armor

2. The perk and leveling system

3. Everything

I said this in another thread and I'll say it here. I love how the raiders actually take cover instead of just running out in the open like in FO3.

Keeping dogmeat alive was a sort of unintended minigame in Fallout 1. If you played the "normal" way, there was no way for him to make it. People put a lot of effort into keeping him alive.

I don't know how that sort of thing breaks down, but the attention to detail on many aspects of the game is fantastic, and of course, Dogmeat is an obvious choice for some love. I DO agree with some of the complaints, especially when it comes to the interface, but I got tired of the screaming pretty fast. So what if it isn't revolutionary? What were they expecting, a religious experience for 60 bucks? In every way that matters, it's a knock out of the park. (Baseball reference. D'oh!)

I haven't been playing long but so far I really enjoy the voiced protagonist. I like how she comments on things I interact with, like in the vault when trying to open the other crio chambers, or when she killed her first rad roach ect.

I like a lot of the things already touched on, but one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is the dynamic weather effects and how some of them are more than just a change in scenery.
