"Throat" of the World

Post » Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:02 am

The use of the word "throat" makes me think that a hole is at the top of High Hrothgaar, that leads into a lava tunnel. I imagine it could be like that giant falling tunnel in The Shivering Isles or when Gandalf fell from that Kazah-dum bridge. It would be cool if we could explore the interior of the mountain, and look up the "throat" from the bottom.

Will there be a "throat", and is The Throat of the World really a volcano, or am I an idiot?

Regardless of your answer, Tweet Pete!

Possibly.

But I think the word "throat" refers to the draconic language experts who make the mountain their home ...

However, it would be pretty cool if the dormant volcano with a open top idea was ALSO true.

Please tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't Th'Um / the voice different from ... What out character can do? Ie I thought the voice / Th'Um wasn't spoken in a draconic tongue? But I really don't know the lore overly well so I may be wrong....

High Hrothgar will be a frozen as [censored] place, no hot lava. Why would you think that people in a place where there is lava and hot temperature will grow a beard (I assume they have huge beards, that's why 'GreyBEARDS'.

In a better reply, the greybeards dont speak in the draconic tongue to use the voice, only the dovahkiin does/ can...

You've the right to be confused, since this whole fiasco of ancient Dragons enslaving man and Dragon hunters is a blind side to all us Lore Freaks. nothing prior to now hints at Thu'um being Dragon language. some have compensated to say that Thu'um is to Dragon language as to what Creole is to French, derived from the other. but the devs or rather Todd has been using Thu'um and Dragon shouts interchangably, but my answer to that is this guy isnt even a founder, much less a weaver of TES so I pay him no mind when it comes to Lore.

as for the Throat of the World. its a mountain not a Volcano.

It's a mountain, not a Volcano.

Those aren't mutually exclusive... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Hood

It could easily be a dormant volcano with a intact lava tube for a "throat".

I'd honestly be a little disappointed if it was. It sounds a little cliche'. Besides, there's already a volcanic area in Skyrim. We don't really need another one.

I don't think it would be cliche', because many real life mountains are volcanoes. I think it has great potential as a giant vertical cavern, which would be great for FUS ROH DAH'ing annoying Bosmer down, plus it would fit with its name.

Yeah, but think Red Mountain. They've already done that.

I thought it was called Throat of the World because of the Nords' creation myth, involving Kyne.

Or it could just be a name that Bethesda found cool and decided that's what the name will be.
