Through The Eyes Of A Courier - A New Vegas Playthrough

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2015 10:38 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'd recently started a role-played play-through of Fallout:New Vegas and I wanted to document in a blog like fashion. It's going to be written as if it's a diary been written by the courier, so it will contain his thoughts etc. I've never done anything like this before, and I know most of the attention is on Fallout 4 at the moment, but I figured I would do it anyway. Hopefully if this one is a success I'll do one for Fallout 4 and perhaps 3.

All feedback/comments/thoughts etc are all appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Day One.

The last thing I remember, is a blinding flash of light, and a searing pain in my head. I guess these are the symptoms of being shot in the head from 3 foot away with a 9mm pistol. Somehow I survived, and find myself in some old doctor’s house. He seems friendly enough, told me his name was Mitchell. Turns out he’s the one who patched me up, did a pretty good job, considering I should be dead. I have no memory of why I was shot, all I remember is a man, talking about some damn poker chip. Anyway, the doc is going to do a few tests on me, make sure I’m healthy, well as healthy as can be for a man who was just shot in the head.

Turns out it was a robot who found me, I still have no memory of before the incident. I scored pretty highly on the doctor’s tests though, turns out I’m quite the brainbox, and lucky too, which goes without saying, given I got shot in the head and a few days later I’m as healthy as I could be. The doc didn’t know anything about the man who shot me, but he definitely came by this town, Goodsprings I think he said. I managed to smooth talk my way into some extra supplies before leaving, my first course of action is to find this robot who saved my life, I owe him a drink.

Ah, fresh air. Well, you know, as fresh as an apocalyptic wasteland can be. I tracked down Victor, the robot who saved my life, or rather he happened to be passing by as I left the doctors house, talk about luck! He doesn’t know who the men were who shot me, but he did confirm that they spent some time in the town saloon, I’ll head there next. Bits of my memory are coming back, I was a courier for the Mojave express, delivering mail about the Mojave Desert, it’s a dangerous job, but the pay is okay. I wonder if they have an insurance policy for being shot in the head. Turns out the delivery I was making was for a platinum chip, to be delivered to the New Vegas strip, the main hub of the desert, it’s where the casinos are. Whoever shot me, took the chip. I have no idea why a stupid platinum poker chip is worth shooting someone for, I guess I’ll find out when I track this guy down.

Well, I’m nearing the end of my first day of my nearly second life. I spent the majority of the day with a young woman called Sunny Smiles, we hunted gecko, and cleared the town water wells, my good deed for the day. She taught me how to handle a gun, and how to handle myself out in the wild, I’ve fired guns before, but lets just say I’m better with my tongue than with a gun. Although there’s a few dead geckos around might disagree. I spent the rest of the night in the bar, spending my hard earned caps on some well deserved beers.

When I arrived at the bar, there was an argument between the owner, Trudy and some guy called Joe Cobb. Joe seemed to be looking for someone and was threatening to burn the town to the ground if he didn’t find him soon. Gotta’ love The Mojave. After he left, Trudy explained everything to me, the NCR, The Legion, Hoover Dam, Powder Gangers, you name it. We spent about an hour or three talking and drinking beer. I felt bad for taking up so much of her time, so I even fixed her broken radio. Turns out the guy who shot me spent some time in the bar with a few Great Khans, some sort of mercenary group from the wasteland. They didn’t say where they were headed next, but they needed to go to the Strip, which would probably mean they needed to head south, through Primm.

I was torn, I wanted to up and leave that instant, to find the son of a [censored] who shot me, but there’s something about this town, and it’s people. I could not bare seeing Joe Cobb hurt anyone around here, so I think I am going to finish this beer, get some sleep, and in the morning, I’ll deal with Joe Cobb.
