Dont give up yet!,his has happened to me before, i load in the game and it crashes. but you have to realize that Fallout is a huge game and it has to render lots of stuff, and it is a glitchy game also. give fallout some time. Dont Give Up!

People make out as if the ps3 version is some incomprehensible mess , i've had mine for 4 years and it's been swell it is no more than a stereotype.

I'm honestly just following the stereotype. I've never actually played it on PS3.

Have you tried loading an earlier save game and play from there? That worked for me once a long time ago.

You're not referring to your Quick Save or Auto Save are you? If so I've done my Quick Save. If you are referring to a file further down the game file hierarchy. I haven't messed with any of that yet. If you are on Steam, where would the older saves be?

I mean a save you made manually yourself. I make multiple saves for each game in case things go wrong. I dunno, I'm not that familiar with the save game system. All I know is that all my save files are in the My games folder in the documents folder(Win7)....they all seem to conveniently be under 10mb.

Do you use mods at all? I don't ever use quicksave and have autosaves off, and I don't load a save while in the game.

I still get the occasional episode of crashes, which in all my cases have related to an exterior spawn. You shouldn't really have to go to extraordinary lengths to keep a game playable but I think NV is worth it.

Don't do quick saves/auto saves! They become corrupted easily. Also you might want to try out some bug fix mods made by the community. The two most popular that I can think of are http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/44204 and http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/45104. Use one or the other though not both.

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/36730 is a good alternative for quicksaves or saving in general with occasional normal saves once in a while.

This! Don't rely on auto saves! Make like 4 saves for one character. And alternate between them as you progress.

Well...I was able to play a little tonight. I loaded - just to try it - my Auto Save. I was in Gommorah and just left there. I didn't finish my job there, I just went back to Commander Moore and lied to her. Well she bought my story and sent me on another mission. I did notice something odd after it crashed tonight: everytime I crash I'm in a fight with several people, and I think I'm in VATS. That was happening in Gommorah and near Helios 1. I was shooting/VATSing and then the game would crash to the desktop. Oh well, back to the drawing board. I'm thinking of just uninstalling it and starting over. Hmmm.......

Since when did the PS3 have trouble with open world games? I've never had problems of crashing in other open world games. Is there some official source?

What gun were you using?
What gun were enemies using?

Crashing to desktop is kind of a common issue for Bethesda titles. Oblivion, FO3, New Vegas....I got into the habit of regularly hitting F5 (quicksave) for all of them. Still yours sounds very frequent. I've had maybe two crashes this past month, sounds like you've had 8 or so in a row.

Sorry, my own wording may have been off, though I'm sure the bigger the game, the more likely the issue: http://www.shacknews.com/article/71385/fallout-new-vegas-dev-talks-ps3-memory

Longknife, on the Omertas (spelling?) I was using a Hunting Revolver, Lucky, and a 10mm Submachine gun. The other group was the Legion, and on them I only used the Hunting Revolver. I hope that helps.

I would recommend hitting "F5" all the time like Longknife said.

The Strip as a whole is pretty glitchy, so perhaps trying an earlier save when you were off the strip might help.

Nothing official, but the PS3 splits its RAM for multiple purposes, whereas the Xbox and PC have RAM dedicated to graphics and all that. Because the PS3 has split RAM, it only has 256 MB at its disposal instead of 512 MB, causing it to have trouble with processing the game as save files increase. This may not be 100% accurate, but gives a general idea. You should check out Skyrim's Technical Problems section for the PS3, it is filled with people with intensely laggy games and freezes every 15 minutes.

Thanks Gingy. Where are the save files located. I went into the Steam folder but only found auto.sav/auto.bck and quick.sav/quick.bck. So that's the same files as ingame. Do you know where the save game files are stored?

If you're looking for the save files themselves on a PC?

For Windows 7 it's:

Documents -> My Games -> FalloutNV -> Saves

Erm...

I think it might be Program Files (x86) if that folder exists on Windows XP.

I might be confusing it with Vista, though.

Ok, I found it under My Documents, My Games, FalloutNV, Saves...............(Windows XP) But they just the same files I typed in above accept they weren't sav files they were .fos files. I'll keep hacking on it.

I'm not sure what you're asking. The fos files can be moved back and forth. They are the save files. For example, if you take them out of that folder, you won't be able to load them in game. If you take a save file to another computer and put it in the "saves" folder, you will be able to play that save on that computer (assuming New Vegas is fully installed)

All I have is:

autosave.fos
autosave.fos.bak
quicksave.fos
quicksave.fos.bak

That's all the files I have in my Save file, but aren't these the files used when you click "Quicksave" in game and of course "Autosave" updates the file like everytime you travel and such. Oh, and I understood your example on move the folders around. I used to do some modding back in Fallout 3 and moving folders around. But how would the Save files fix my problem? Thanks for your continued help.

That's strange.

My advice was to load a save in a non-laggy place (the Strip is the worst).

In mine, I have those four, but then I have Save 1 Connor James Doc Mitchell's House, and-so-on-and-so-forth.

It's easy to troubleshoot this kind of stuff on the PC. You'll get it to work, don't worry.

Also: Turning off any mods you have, as well as turning the graphics down/playing with the resolution types might help as well.
